Work Text:

Tubbo is having a good day.

Snow is coating the ground in a blanket of white. Fluffy piles of it that he’d shovelled away sit around the train tracks, and through the chilly cold, he can’t help but feel warm at the happiness he feels. There are lights on the surrounding trees, all of which had been requested by Sunny, and the conveyor belts were decorated as well, garland hanging from the bottom loosely. Sunny had done those herself, evident from the tape that was barely holding it up. She’d been so proud, and Tubbo had smiled more as they’d decorated than in weeks.

Tubbo is having a good day.

Walking back to his main warehouse, he smiles at the lights and decorations. Eventually, he does make it there, setting down the coffee that had been keeping his hand warm, and sitting down, resuming right where he’d left off before his impromptu trip.

The clicks of machines surround him as he works, metal clanging together and making him giggle when it lines up with the beat of the music coming from the speaker beside him. He’d finished most of his gifts for people, opting to make things rather than buy them. He’s working on something for Cheyanne now, having finished most of the others and almost all the eggs. He still had yet to decide what to give Sunny, but he had plenty of time still! There was about a month left, and despite that, he felt no rush, simply taking his time to put plenty of care into his craftsmanship.

Tubbo is having a good day.

The diamond axe on the table in front of him was fully made and usable, and he’d spent hours upon hours making sure to make it as perfect as possible. Testing the grip, balance, and checking how the diamonds themselves felt, was insanely time consuming. But, he thinks, it will be worth it. This axe would last a long time, and he hopes Cheyanne will at least get some good use out of it. He’s been detailing the enchantments around the edge for so long, carving the perfect runes to ensure the enchantments last.

Tubbo is having a good day-

Something taps him, and upon turning around in his chair he’s faced with a sight he’d never expected. Sunny stood, looking far less than like herself. Their gaze is cast downwards, and their arms surround themselves. He fights off a frown, tilting his head with a smile and trying to mask his concern.

“Sunny?” he prompts, “Why aren’t you in bed poppit?”

They didn’t respond aside from a slight downwards tilt of their head, and he let himself frown at that.

“Princess? Are you alright?” he asked, idly looking her over for injuries.

They stayed still, before walking forwards until a weight settled against his chest.

He startled, shifting to hug back, confusion and concern on his face.

There were a few seconds of silence before the crying started, and though it was silent, he could still feel her shaking and hear her small, hiccuped breaths. Tubbo pulled her closer, unsure of what to do. Sunny had never cried before, as far as he was aware anyways. In the time he’d had them, they never shed a tear. Scraped knees and short falls, accidental pushes and playful hits, none of it ever shook her. She almost always held a confident posture and a smirk, sass in her every movement.

Now, though, she buried her head in his shoulder with a silent cry. When she did finally move, it was to hand him her notebook, on an open page with something written shakily in the middle of the page.

   ‘Pa, does everyone hate me?’

Tubbo stared at the book stunned, expecting she’d been scared by a nightmare, or a monster, or anything other than.. that.

“No, no of course not.” Tubbo replied, “Of course not.”

She shook her head and flipped the page in the book hastily.

‘I’m annoying,I get on their nerves-’

  He couldn’t keep reading it.

“Honey, no.” He started, "No you don’t.“ He wiped the tears from her eyes with his thumb.

“Everyone adores you, and those you don’t? They aren’t worth your time.” His heart broke as she sniffled once more, and broke even more at the realisation that she’d written that before actually showing it to him, whereas she’d usually just write whatever was on her mind in the moment. How long had she been thinking about this? Feeling this?

“Sweetie, can you tell me why you’re feeling like this? Did someone say something to you?” He asked. He really hoped no one had told her any of this. If they did, he would have some...words, for them.

Thankfully, for everyone on the servers' well-being, she shook her head. Tubbo nodded hesitantly.

“Okay...do you mind telling me what made you think this then?” He questions again. Sunny shakes her head, and Tubbo sighs. “Alright, that’s alright princess, how about we just sleep now, yeah?” He suggests and shushes her when she holds her arms around him tighter. “It’s okay, it's okay, you can stay here with me if you’d like, you don’t have to leave little one,” Tubbo assures. He stands, holding them close and keeping them from falling. He carries her outside, blocking her face from the wind, and travels the short distance to the nearby food factory. Tubbo moves to the small couch next to the cooking machine and lays her down.

He smiles down at her and stands to leave, feeling a small tug on his sleeve. He turns back to a sad look on Sunny’s face and sighs as she smiles again the moment he sits down beside her.

He just can’t be upset when she pushes half the blanket onto him and leans her head on his shoulder.

“You know what your doing don’t you?” He asks jokingly. She nods, eyes still closed. He chuckles, leaning against the back of the couch, and despite knowing his back will hurt from this sleeping spot, he can’t find it in himself to care. He smiles once more as Sunny falls asleep.

Tubbo was having a good day before, but his daughter being here, and happy, made it a million times better.

  “Goodnight Solicito.”

Notes:

Prompt 1- Fireplace Cuddles (THIS COUNTS AS A FIREPLACE I SWEAR)
Prompt 2 - “Does everyone hate me?” She sniffled. “No, no of course not.” Her father replied, pulling her into a hug. “Of course not.” “I’m annoying, I get on their nerves-“ “Hush, dear, no you don’t.“ He wiped the tears from her eyes with his thumb. “Everyone adores you, and those you don’t? They aren’t worth your time.”

this one is based off of a lot of the meaner comments I saw people making about Sunny. I think they mostly just didn’t get that she wasn’t actually making fun of poor people, she just meant it as a joke.
