Chapter Text
Prelude
“He's just a boy! You can’t do this.” Firm hands restrained her arms as she reached forward.
Firm hands shook her lightly. “Lara! Can you hear me?” He looked into her face but was met with a groggy expression that suddenly turned wild.
“Crosshair! Wait!” Her outstretched fingers barely grazed his sleeve. A blank expression settled over his face as he stopped to look at her.
His face contorted in concern. “Lara, look at me!” He struggled to hold on as she tried to pull away, disoriented, weakly slapping at him.
He turned without a word and tore her heart out.
“No,” she cried. “He’s just a boy … just a boy … ” She clutched his sleeves and rested her head on his chest, gasping between sobs.
You can’t change this , he thought darkly. Nothing changes. Crosshair didn’t look back.
He held her head to him gently. Her breathing eventually slowed; he felt her relax the death-grip on his arms and sit back. Her breathing hitched again when she looked up to see who he was.
