At three in the morning Morty was awake by the sound of someone playing the piano they have downstairs and for a second it scare her because Rick wants in bed and that made her fear the worse but then when Mortys brain was more awake and she managed to be more calm and think straight Morty realized if they were under attack Rick would be here protecting her and making a plan to get rid of the intruders and not leave Morty by her self because even do Rick is an asshole he would rather be dead that let anything happen to Morty.
As Morty lays on there bed and listen to sound of piano it seems sad and that makes Morty worried because sense they move in a couple months ago she never heard Rick play until tonight but once in awhile Morty finds him sitting on the piano bench with a drink and looking sad and maybe regret and when Morty ask him if his ok he says yes but she knows is laying but because Morty respect Rick she doesn't ask but with the life that Rick is led and how many people he has lost her curiosity just grows
So Morty decided to get up and go downstairs to go see if Ricks ok and when she starts to go down the stairs she sees Rick and he looks sad but is eyes are closed and there's tears running down is face and she also can't put her finger on it but she thinks she recognizes the song from somewhere and as the looks at Rick from top of the stars he says.
Rick: What are doing awake morty?
Morty: I wake up because of the sound of the piano.
Rick: sorry I didn't realize that it that loud.
Morty: I don't mind that song is beautiful and I think I recognize it but I'm not sure.
Rick: that's because me and your mother used to sing it to you when you were a baby.
Morty: oh so that's why.
Rick: yes.
Morty: Rick can I ask something.
Rick: it depends.
Morty: why everytime you look at piano you look sad and there's regret.
Rick: because this piano had three owners over the years and I failed all of them.
Morty: What do you mean by that?
Rick: well the first owner was your great grandmother my mother that your name after, the second one was Samantha and the third was Thomas and the three of them had horrible deaths all because of me.
Morty: wait so your mother was also part of the rebellion?
Rick: no my mother was a smart woman ahead of her time and also beautiful and with a caring soul that love her only son so much that she died instead of telling the federation were I was.
Morty: now I understand why you hate the federation much.
Rick: yeah well those bastard destroy planets and kill anything that opposes then and they did kill three of my partners and my mother and a lot of my comrades so yeah I hate then until the day I die
Morty: but there's something I still don't understand why where you crying while playing the song.
Rick: because today it would have being my mother's 98 Birthday and she also wrote the song.
Morty: what? Did she really and why didn't you tell.
Rick: yes because not only she was scientist she was also a musician because I didn't want to bother you with my shity past.
Mort: Rick I love you and don't mind helping you carry some of that guilty that consumes you because I have seen first hand what that can do to a person.
Rick: good my mother would have loved you Morty you two are so alike that is scary.
Morty: really?
Rick: yes because from all of the lovers I had over the years she only met Diana and they didn't get along.
Morty: why?
Rick: because Diana didn't like I was scientist and wanted me to change profession and also didn't like the band and my mother didn't like her because she was dumb and lazy and because she wanted to change me and that caused them to fight.
Morty: I understand your mother I don't like Diana to she was meant to me.
Rick: Morty sometimes when I look it you I see so many similaritys to her that I sometimes think that she reincarnated on you.
Morty: I believe on the after life so that may be a possibility.
Rick: that would be a little weird don't you think.
Morty: not as weird as having relationship of 5 years with your underage grand daughter.
Rick: you have point.
Morty: of course I have. Know I think we should go back to bed and get some rest and when we woke up you can tell me more about my Grand grandma and celebrate her birthday and maybe teach me how to play the piano so you can have some new good memories of it so when you look it they aren't just sad.
Rick: that would be amazing Morty thank you.
Morty: your welcome.
They share a sweet kiss and went back upstairs to sleep so tomorrow they can go put flowers on his mother grave and talk about her and maybe try to make new memories with the piano because he also deserve it.
