Small Comforts

Summary:

Keqing comes home from a long day of work

Notes:

Sorry this isn't as good or as long as my other stuff, but I wanted to do something for Ganqingweek,

Work Text:

Keqing sighed as she fumbled with her keychain in her apartment complex’s hallway, before slotting it into the lock and heading inside. Every day felt long, and coming home to her rather small apartment wasn’t helpful either. It wasn't that she couldn't afford a better apartment- her job at the bank certainly paid well enough for that- it was the fact that all the apartments in the city were either outright miserable or already owned by the few who were rich enough to rent them out to others. She knew for a fact that her boss, Ningguang, had a lavish penthouse downtown with an outdoor garden terrace and a staff of its own, and would often throw parties on the weekends.

Setting her purse and coat on the side table, Keqing fought the urge to just collapse on the couch and throw a guilty pleasure soap opera on the tv. She’d forgotten to bring lunch, so she needed to at least eat first. Opening the fridge, she stared at the truly gourmet selection; Leftover Som Tam, two cans of decaf coffee, and a half-filled Brita. Sighing, Keqing grabbed the Thai. At least it didn’t need to be microwaved.

Kicking her heels off and letting down her hair, Keqing gave into her urges and splayed herself across the couch. At this point, she didn’t even feel like reaching for the remote, so she just ate her meal in the company of the sounds of the city outside. Someone further down the block was playing some loud rap as they drove by. The pitter-pattering of light rain against the apartment window. The open-air market across the street was open still, hustling and bustling as people sold the last of their wares before closing for the night. The clack-clacking of the nearby metro line that Keqing used almost every day.

“You’re home later than usual.”

Keqing jumped, relaxing when she realized it was her girlfriend, Ganyu. Evidently, she had closed the shop early today.

Although she was 27, making her only a few years older, Ganyu carried herself in a way that made her seem like she was wise and experienced beyond her years. She was rarely seen without her signature red and black hair clips, a gift Keqing had gotten her for their third anniversary. Unfortunately, it paled in comparison to the jewelry Ganyu made at her shop, but it wouldn’t really have been a present if she had to make it herself. Even though she was wearing a loose tank top and baggy sweatpants, she looked as stunning as she always had.

“Were you planning on eating that all on your own?” Ganyu asked.

Keqing blushed, trying to hide the fact that she had indeed been planning to keep it to herself.

“I-I can go get you another fork,” Keqing stammered.

“No need,” Ganyu replied. “We can share.”

She daintily grabbed the fork and sat across Keqing’s lap, causing her cheeks to flush a deep red. Moving a loose strand of hair behind her ear with one hand, her other guiding the food between her luscious lips, Keqing’s eyes following every movement. Ganyu noticed and smiled.

“You’re so silly, my dear,” Ganyu giggled.

If steam could rise from her ears, it would fog up the windows. Even as a grown adult who’d been in a committed relationship for 5 years, Keqing would still react like a schoolgirl who had a secret crush on her girlfriend, and Ganyu adored that. She planted a kiss on her girlfriend’s forehead, leaving a powdery blue lipstick stamp, before getting up, leaving Keqing a flustered melting mess on the couch.
