Getting snowed in with Alex Blake had never had been the plan for Elle Greenaway. She had hoped the blizzard would settle but now they were well and truly stuck. Alex, to her credit, had been quiet, been trusting, been kind.
Elle paces as she waits for the kettle to boil, considering her truth. She’s falling for Alex, she knows she is, but she shouldn’t. Alex smiles at her all the same when she returns with their tea, setting a cup down in front of Alex, her responding smile small and hopeful.
“Why did you even come out here?”
The question has been puzzling her for weeks. Alex smiles just slightly, ducking her head to hide behind a curtain of soft brunette hair.
“I needed… space.”
“Why?”
“Ethan… loved the holidays. I couldn’t stand to be around all the… decorations.”
Alex’s voice is thick with emotion and Elle moves to tuck hair from her eyes, gently drawing Alex closer, stroking her cheek dry of tears.
“I’m sorry…”
“Just… let me stay. Please.”
Elle laughs then, a soft laugh.
“I’m not going to throw you out in this weather… besides… it’s… nice to have some company.”
Silence falls then and Elle smiles softly when Alex draws away to drink her tea, the two falling into an easy relaxed silence full of quiet comfort.
