High school was very stressful for Giyuu, but he always had someone by his side. Whether that be Shinobu or his sister. Giyuu wasn't always alone.
During sophomore year, Giyuu met Sanemi and many others, but Sanemi caught his eye. After being near the brash man for a while, Giyuu developed a crush on him. It was from sophomore year to senior year.
He never had the confidence to confess to Sanemi, but he knew he had to do it soon. Giyuu walks down the empty hall carrying his school bag. He just finished his extracurricular class, so now he's walking home.
"Tomioka!"
Giyuu pauses and turns around. His eyes widened when he saw Sanemi walking up to him. "Uhm, Shinazugawa?"
Sanemi walks up to him, "We need to talk."
Giyuu slowly nods and tightens his grip on his bag. Sanemi motions his hand for Giyuu to follow him, and he does. The two end up in a classroom, with Giyuu by the door and Sanemi standing before him.
"What did you want to talk about?" Giyuu mutters.
Sanemi examines Giyuu's face, "You like me, don't you?"
Giyuu's eyes widened, and he stayed silent for a moment. His eyebrows pull together, "What are you talking about?"
Sanemi bites his cheek, "You may not know how fucking obvious you are. I know you have a crush on me, Tomioka."
Giyuu frowns, "I..."
"Tell me, are your feelings true?"
Giyuu stares at Sanemi before nodding, "Yes, I've liked you since—."
"Sophomore year up till now." Sanemi interrupts him.
Giyuu nods and looks at the ground. Sanemi groans, “Listen, Tomioka.”
Immediately, Giyuu knows what Sanemi will say. A harsh rejection will be coming his way soon.
"I don't like you like that. In fact, I'm going out with someone currently."
Giyuu snaps his head up and locks eyes with Sanemi, "What?"
Sanemi awkwardly sways his body, "Yeah. Uhm, I hope we can still be friends, though."
Giyuu feels oncoming tears build up, but he quickly blinks them away. Sanemi stares at Giyuu for a moment before sighing.
"The movie tickets you got were just an excuse to hang out with me, right? You were never into action as much as me."
Giyuu hiccups and doesn't move, "I'm sorry."
Sanemi raises an eyebrow, "What the fuck are you sorry for?"
"I'm sorry, I love you." Giyuu fumbles with the hem of his shirt. He desperately tries to ignore the painful building in his throat.
Sanemi scoffs, "Yea, yea, I get feelings don't go away quickly, but—!"
Giyuu shakes his head, "No, I don't think we can be friends."
Suddenly, Sanemi is the stunned one, "The fuck? What the hell are you talking about?"
Taking a deep breath, Giyuu shakily exhales, "Whenever I try to get close to you, I'm giving you unintentional pressure since you know I've liked you."
Sanemi stays silent, waiting for Giyuu to say anything else.
"To be just friends, I like you too much. I know I'll regret this, but I feel this will be the best for the both of us."
Sanemi scoffs, "And how will ending our friendship be better for the both of us?!"
Giyuu grits his teeth, "Because I'll get jealous when you love someone else! You obviously don't like me back, so if we just stop hanging out, I'll eventually lose feelings for you!"
The room goes silent. Giyuu wipes his eyes, "I tried to hide my feelings, but I guess it was too obvious."
Before Sanemi could say anything, Giyuu stormed out of the room. Sanemi doesn't bother chasing him and lets him run away, like the coward he is.
