Work Text:
The snowflakes drips on the branch, startling a little bird sleeping on one feet upright. It flies in panic from the cold, disturbing the other sleeping creatures whose trying to shy away from the cold breeze with their slick feathers.
Satoru tried to snatch one of the birds from the coarse thin branch, on his tippy toes as the distance between the open window of the classroom and the tall tree is quite a feat.
His frown turn upside as frostbitten hands finally wrap around a little chirping bird, startled from the warnmess it's envelope. Satoru's initially focus-squinted eyes widened with pure delight.
Which widen even more in shock when he realize he's not tiptoeing on any tiles right now, as he's slowly falling out the window.
I'm gonna fall!
As the idiot he is, he just closes his cerulean eyes, adorned by long white lashes. Apparently waiting for the full-faced impact of his fall.
"Wha—Satoru—"
But then, he heard a warm voice calling up to his name and the sensation of falling stops. As he's suspended in the hair, hold up by his best friend in one hand.
He looks back, smiling innocently. As if on cue, the bird lashes around from his soft grip and managed to fly away.
"Aaah! Too bad~", Satoru casually said as he looked away back to the tree and away from Suguru's judging gaze.
Only the chirp of the remaining birds can be heard, as if the time had stopped. Satori, still hold up on the air, looking away and Suguru still squinting his eyes on his best friend.
A sigh, and another. And a bigger one.
Satoru can finally feel the floor on his feet again.
Satoru looked back on Suguru, whose arms are crossed in front of him and the same tired expression he wears daily with Satoru.
"I'm just trying to save the bird!", Satoru protested, not even letting Suguru say a thing as he knows he'll be hit where it hurts too much.
" You see, Satoru—", Suguru started—
—in which Satoru interrupted, "Hep, shush. I know that tone."
"I promise I didn't hurt the birds, look!" Satoru points at the continuously sleeping birds on the nearly breaking branch.
Satoru can see when Suguru's violet eyes look over the little birds for a few second and then back to him. His face reflected on those beautiful orbs of galaxy.
"Fine, still—" Suguru halted, as he look over Gojo up and down.
Satoru inwardly panics, trying to secretly look at himself—if there's any feathers or whatnot.
When he look back at Satoru, he's faced with the same violet eyes—yet right now, instead of irritation—it's full of worry.
"Next time, be more aware of yourself", Suguru continued, tiptoed just in front of Gojo and pluck out a single stray leaf on Gojo's messy white hair.
Satoru, still stunned and kind of confused of what happened, froze.
Suguru blows the leaf away from his scarred hand through the open window. He looked at the tree again and traces his eyes to Satoru, as he notice how his uniform is smeared with small snowflakes.
He chuckled, taking off his outer coat and covering Satoru in it.
He steps back from the window completely and observes Satoru carefully.
"It's cold too, try to bring more winter clothes next time, Satoru."
"Of course I will! I just forgot today!", Satoru protested with might, looking away from Suguru and to his left side. His ears reddened as his hands clutches the coat on his shoulders.
Suguru saw all of this, his eyes crinkled as he smiled and side eyes Satoru.
"You sure do.", he replied as he took Satoru's right hand, caressing the reddened fingers and intertwining their hands.
Their intertwined hands naturally lowered down and leaned on the cold wall of the room.
Suguru uses his other hand as an anchor, his chin leaning on his palm as he look out the outside of the window and feeling the cold breeze.
He left little flakes passing by his nose, smiled as he feels Satoru's intertwined hands squeezes.
Adorable.
