Work Text:

It was a beautiful day out. The birds chirped and sang in the trees, the evening sun cast the park in a soft orange hue, everything was perfect. But even so, as Kingsly stood under the decorated arch, he couldn’t help but be nervous. His friends and family sat in the many rows of white outdoor chairs, watching him expectantly as they awaited the arrival of Puddle.

The flower girl, a young cousin of his, danced around as she tossed handfuls of painstakingly plucked petals down the aisle. Any minute now…

Kingsly anxiously adjusted his tie, the floral corset vest he had been gifted by his mother felt like it was suffocating him. He was endlessly grateful for the quiet, calming music that filled what otherwise would have been unbearably awkward silence. After all the planning, all the preparation, they couldn’t afford to back down now.

He took a deep breath, but it was taken just as quickly when he looked up to see Puddle, absolutely stealing the show.

A layered skirt made of the softest looking tulle, a purple wrap around their middle and a matching bowtie popping out from their white button up, all wrapped up in a sleek grey blazer. They look… stars, they look perfect.

Their father led them down the aisle, arm in arm. Leaves fell and scattered around them. The sight alone was more than he could have ever asked for, and the ceremony had barely even started! The two separated and Puddle stepped forward, meeting Kingsly under the arch.

Everyone had been seated, and the celebrant cleared their throat. Beaux, the big shot actor that they had met so long ago on PNF-404 had not only gained authorisation to officiate weddings for an upcoming role, but actually offered his services when he caught wind of the event. He welcomed all their guests, before droning on about something or other, Kingsly and Puddle were too distracted eyeing each other to really care.

“You look so handsome, Kings,” they whispered.

“Aw gee, Petal, you’re so pretty.”

“Oh, you!”

The ceremony continued, and even though Kingsly stumbled through his written vows, the embarrassment was soon replaced with awe when they were handed the rings. By far the most exciting part of the event, save for the kiss, he supposed. It was such an important moment, symbolic of their union; two simple but gorgeous wedding bands engraved with the sun and stars, a sign of good luck and protection.

Kingsly took Puddle's hand, slipping the ring onto their finger. They sighed and did the same for him, the two admired the pretty jewellery. It might have just been the moment, but Puddle’s smile seemed so much brighter than usual, it was hard to look away. Seeing so many watery eyes in the crowd was starting to make him emotional, but the warmth of their hands served a great comfort.

When they cupped his cheek, he could feel the chill of the metal band. Words could not properly describe how he was feeling. He gave Puddle a wobbly smile as he felt them slowly leaning in. They pressed a soft kiss to his lips, leaving him breathless.

The crowd awwed as he held them close, savouring the moment the best he could before they inevitably pulled away.

Puddle’s eyes began to water, overwhelmed by the sheer excitement and joy they were feeling in the moment. Kingsly gently wiped the tears away with his thumb, feeling close to crying himself.

Time flew by, and soon they were dancing, showing off moves they had practiced over months of bobbing to the tunes on the radio. All eyes were on them, and they couldn’t be happier. The newlyweds hopped, skipped and spun around, holding onto each other like they’d be lost otherwise.

They only found time to separate when Kingsly was tapped on the shoulder. He turned around to see Schnauz, the plucky treasure appraiser, Dalmo practically latched to his arm.

Puddle smiled at the two, “Ah, Schnauz, you made it! It’s good to see you again.”

“Yes, yes. Forgive my tardiness, I and some others had been preparing a gift for the two of you.”

“A gift?” Kingsly tilted his head, “You didn’t need to, really- just coming along was more than enough–”

“Nonsense! Now please, follow me.”

Well, there wasn’t much else they could do, so they followed. Curiously, Schnauz led them to a large looking structure covered by a sheet. That certainly hadn’t been there when they arrived. Dalmo grabbed at a corner, eagerly awaiting instruction.

A crowd seemed to have gathered around. Had everyone been in on this? It wasn’t out of the realm of possibility, but damn was it surprising.

“Right, are you ready?”

Kingsly and Puddle shared a puzzled look, before turning back to the appraiser and nodding.

With that, the sheet was pulled away, revealing the pink and white exterior of what looked to be a large sweet treat topped with cute berries. But the way the sunlight gleamed on the metallic looking surface… it wasn’t food, it was a ship!

Schnauz beamed as they looked the ship up and down.

“Here it is, a one-to-one re-creation of the S.S. Berry! I’m glad I could get Lapi on board with the painting and decorating…”

“This is…” Puddle was at a loss for words, “Stars, this is too much!”

“A-A ship? No, Schnauz, we have to pay you back somehow–”

“No need for that! Think of it as a sort of good luck charm while you’re out on your honeymoon.”

They were gifted a whole ship for that? Sure the ship was only large enough to fit the two of them before it got too cramped, but it must have been so expensive! And the time it would have taken to make and decorate… they shuddered to imagine. Hell, they hadn’t even fully decided where they wanted to travel to. Oh well, they could always drift aimlessly and let the stars guide them.

Kingsly squeezed Puddle’s hand when he heard them sniffling, fighting back what he can only assume were happy tears. They looked back at their friends, finding that they all had their cameras out.

Before they had time to react, they were herded into a group of their closest friends. Ah, guess it was photo time.

“Everyone, smile!”

Puddle dusted off the old photo frame before placing it back on the mantel. They sighed, happily reminiscing about that day. The sights, the sounds, the food, Kingsly.

As if on cue, the redhead snuck up and hugged them from behind, kissing their cheek as they let out a surprised squeak. Even now as their hairs were going grey, he was still such a big softie. He hummed, looking at the photo over their shoulder.

“Looking at our wedding photo?”

“Yeah,” They giggled as Kingsly kissed them again.

“Happiest day of my life.”

“Gosh, you’re such a sap, Kings!”

“Mmmhm.”

“...Can we dance again, for old time’s sake?”

Then it was Kingsly’s turn to laugh, “And you call me a sap.”

“I’m serious!”

“I know, Petal. So may I take this dance?”

Puddle offered their hand, giving him a soft smile before he swept them off their feet.

Notes:

Happy to finally put this out there since I got stuck about a quarter way through since I've never been to a wedding, soooo yeah that much will have become clear very quickly

Also wrote in some more castaways cause I thought it's be fun, since Beaux apparently crash landed on purpose for the sake of method acting (I think it was in one of his dialogue things but I may be misremembering) and Lapi, being a painter would be perfect to help in the design of the S.S. Berry ship. Also Lapi is so fucking cute like??
