Elle’s sneezes echo in the empty house even as she makes her way to the bedroom, the doors and windows are locked tight and she crawls, shivering, into the bed beside Katie, curling into her with a huff of irritation.
“Why does this happen every cold and flu season?”
“Weak immune system..”
Katie mutters, curling Elle close and muttering her next words.
“At least we have each other so we’re not alone.”
Despite her irritation at getting sick, again, Elle can’t help her slight smile. It really could have been worse, even if the sneezing is starting to hurt. She always gets like this, but for once she’s not alone.
