Chapter Text
Christmas was in seven days, how could he forget? The team was doing a Secret Santa but Suga forgot all about it. He now had seven days to find their captain a Christmas present. He’d known Daichi since their first year and he was completely blanking! Suga felt like he was such a bad friend at that moment, but a buzz from his phone paused his little pity party. It was Daichi, “Hello, this is Sugawara.”
“Hey. I’m at the coffee shop down the street, are you on your way?”
“Yeah I’m walking there now, are you planning on grabbing a drink before we leave?” After stepping outside, Sugawara locked the door to his apartment.
“Yeah, I was planning on it. Do you want me to wait for you to get here before we order or do you want me to order for you?”
“Order for me, I’m gonna be freezing by the time I get there anyway.”
“Okay, see you soon.”
“See you soon.”

Suga liked having coffee with Daichi, it was nice how they got to talk more casually outside of practice. Walking up to the coffee shop he saw Daichi with their drinks in hand.
“I got you some food too, I figured you’d be hungry.”
“Thanks, Daichi,” Suga leaned in to take a sip of his drink, hot chocolate, a double shot of espresso, and whipped cream on top, the perfect drink for the winter in his opinion. He and Daichi decided to take a seat outside and enjoy the colder weather. “What food did you get?”
“Warmed up brownie,” Daichi looked up at Suga as he said it. Suga’s eyes lit up. Splitting the brownie in half, Daichi took a glance at the boy sitting opposite him. He watched as his friend waited for the warmth of the brownie to touch the palm of his outreached hand. Daichi took a sip of his drink as he placed the brownie-half in Suga’s hand and watched as the other boy took a bite with stars in his eyes.
They ended up sitting there and talking for a while. After an hour the two decided to leave for their originally planned destination,
the mall. Was it kinda cheating that Suga was bringing his Secret Santa to buy him a gift? Maybe. Did Suga care? No.
Suga waited at the door for Daichi to unlock his car. As they both got in and clicked in their seatbelts, Suga snatched the aux cord and plugged his phone in. Daichi started the car, and Suga pressed shuffle on his Christmas-pop playlist.

“I’m not sure if “California Girls” is a Christmas song, Suga.”
“Have you seen the music video?”
“No…”
“Exactly. Keep driving.”

Daichi expected the parking to be bad, but he didn’t expect this . Every–and I mean every– spot was taken on both sides of the parking lot. This must be because of the holiday shoppers. The two had to go across the street in the parking garage and they still barely found a spot. After Daichi locked his car, the two walked into the entrance to one of the department stores. Daichi held the door open with a soft smile, letting Sugawara walk in first.
Suga didn’t know what to get Daichi. Every idea he came up with didn’t feel right, it didn’t feel Daichi. “What do you like? Maybe it can help me find a gift,” Sugawara tried to not sound nervous, but he couldn’t help it. He felt so awkward.
What do I want for Christmas? Daichi was so focused on getting his Secret Santa a present that he forgot about his own, so he stood there, deep in thought.
“Earth to Daichi! C’mon, we’re blocking up the entrance. You can think of a present while we’re walking around.”
“Oh, sorry, let’s go.”
The two boys walked down the isles, scanning them for anything Daichi might like. Laundry detergent? No, that’s lame. New clothes? Daichi would instantly know that they’re for him. A snow globe? No… wait, that’s actually not half bad!
“What about this?” Suga held up a snow globe on what looked like a golden pedestal, trees, and a house with a turned-on LED encapsulated inside.
Daichi admired the detailed exterior of the house. It was subtle but you could see a glint of admiration in his eyes. “It’s nice.”
Suga picked up another one from the shelf, one with Rudolf and some candy-canes. Suga then turned over the spectacle to turn on the light for Rudolf’s nose. Both he and Daichi stared in awe as the glittery snow swirled and settled around the globe, Rudolf illuminating it in a welcoming, amber glow.
“That one.”
The sudden noise broke Sugawara from his trance, “Huh?”
“You should get that one.” Daichi continued, “I bet your secret Santa would love it.” just as much as I do
“Alright then, it’s settled. Need anything else while we’re here?” He could tell the air got thicker when we said those words. Suga could tell Daichi wanted the present. He could tell Daichi didn’t want to let it go, that’s why this was the perfect gift.
Suga made sure to hold the snow globe secure as he walked to the bagging area, Daichi following close behind. Suga asked the lady at the counter to package it nicely. Neither he nor Daichi wanted the present to shatter under any circumstances. After paying, the two walked to the car.
On the ride home, no music was played, no words were exchanged. The two boys wordlessly, mutually agreed that this present was the most important thing at the moment, and they would do anything and everything to keep this snow globe safe.
“Thanks for taking me home, Daichi”
“It’s no worries, anything I can do to help?
“Well if you want to stay a bit, we could watch a movie together in the living room.”
“Yeah, that sounds fun. How about The Grinch?” It was his favorite
Suga giggled, he knew this, “Sure.”

It had been a few hours, and multiple Christmas movies later, when Suga looked over and realized Daichi had fallen asleep on his couch. He carefully stood up to ease Daichi into a more comfortable position. Putting a pillow under his head and a blanket over his body, Suga smiled. He went to the kitchen to cook the two some dinner.
Sugawara used the last of his macaroni. He knew Daichi liked macaroni, this statement was proved, not too long after, when Daichi rose to the familiar smell.
“Macaroni?” Daichi questioned.
“Hot and ready. Come to the table if you want some,” Suga set the pot over a towel on the table.
Daichi shuffled his way to the table. After taking a seat he let Suga serve him some macaroni. The two ate in a comfortable silence. Daichi took a sip of his water, glancing at his close friend across the table before quickly looking away.
Suga’s words broke their silence, “Are you staying over? I’m perfectly fine if you do.”
“Oh! Umm,” Daichi blushed, holding the back of his neck,”I mean if you’re okay with it I don’t see why not.”
“Alright, I don’t want you sleeping on the couch though, so you can just take my bed.”
Is he serious? “No, I'll take the couch, it's fine.”
“Don’t fight me on this, Daichi. This is my home, I don’t want you sleeping uncomfortably while you’re here.”
Oh, so he was serious. “Well I don’t want you sleeping uncomfortably either!” The two fell into a thought-filled silence. Would he be okay with this? Is it too weird? “Uhh… well… w-we could,”
“Spit it out already! I have no ideas so whatever you have in mind is the best shot we got at a compromise.” Suga didn’t mean to sound so irritated, hopefully daichi caught on that I didn’t mean it like that.
Daichi took a deep breath, his heart was beating out of his chest, “We could share your bed, I figured it was the best option since we’re both so stubborn.” Oh my god why did I say that?
Welp, it’s certainly a compromise. Wait, why am I blushing? Suga nodded in agreement to Daichi’s proposal, then he silently went back to eating his macaroni.
- -
The two brushed their teeth, they hadn’t spoken a word since dinner. Daichi was so nervous, but he wouldn’t let Suga see that. Was he really about to share a bed with his best friend? Why did his heart flutter? Just brush it off.
“You don’t have clothes to sleep in do you?” Suga knew the answer, but he asked anyway, anything was better than this awkward silence.
“I mean I may have some sweatpants in my car, is it okay if I go and get them?”
“Oh uhh, sure.”
- -
Sugawara was sitting on his bed when Daichi walked in. Holy shit. Daichi was wearing gray sweatpants with no shirt on, his muscles were well defined by the dim lighting of Suga’s room. Daichi was buff. Like you wouldn’t need to ask if he worked out, he showed it.
Suga was staring at him, “You ready to sleep?”
“Suga, are you sure it’s ok if I sleep in your bed with you?” Daichi fiddled with his hands to ease his nerves.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be? Hop in.” Why am I so casual? My heart hasn’t beat this fast all day, and is now really the time?”
Daichi did as Suga said, their backs facing each other, “Night, Suga.”
“Goodnight, Daichi.”
Shit.
