Stargazing

Summary:

Ash and Misty go out stargazing, and coming up with something new.

Work Text:

It’s night in the hills of Cerulean City. Away from the lights and sound, one could pretty much get away from it all. To one couple, it’s pretty much perfect.

Laying on a soft blanket, Ash and Misty took turns connecting stars together to form new pictures in the sky, but also took turns pointing out the constellations that were overhead.

“It sure is beautiful out here,” remarked Ash.

“Yeah,” agreed Misty, “sometimes I come out here away from the city, just to get to a place where’s quiet.”

Ash hummed in agreement.

“You know there are stories about what’s in the sky,” said Misty, keeping her eyes at the sky.

“I know a few,” replied Ash. “ Orion, the Pleiades, the Big Dipper, Scorpio, et cetera.”

Misty chuckled.  “Yeah, I know those, too. So, why don’t we come up with some new ones for the ones we don’t know?”

Ash gave a soft smile. “Sure, sounds fun.” The two looked around looking for what would make a good symbol or shape.

“We could also make it into a some sort of astrology-like thing. Come up with a new sign, what it means, and then assign it to someone.”

“I was never into those. Midori was.”

“Midori,” asked Misty, “who was that?”

“Oh, a girl from my home town. Went by the nickname ‘Green’. She was big into astrology. I don’t remember her sign, but she’d quote stuff from the newspaper. She said her sign was a Virgo, she’d get married to a Taurus.”

Ash paused. “Maybe that’s why she hung around Gary so much before he turned into a giant jerk.”

“Or she just crushed on him hard and used astrology as a excuse,”  Misty mused “Okay, let’s forget about the past and come up with our constellations.”

Ash nodded and pointed up into the sky and traced out a few lines. “That one’s a fish."

He moved Misty’s hand, dragging it in certain motions, connecting a couple of stars.

“Ah, yeah, I see it. Now it needs personalities. Hmm…  Colorful, loves being around others. Always moving, tons of energy, Sounds like anyone we might know?”

Ash thought about it for awhile. “Sounds a bit like Duplica.”

“Really,” asked Misty. “Her?”

"Well, yeah, she was kind of cute with all her costumes. Plus making performances with Ditto would need a lot energy. Your turn, Misty.”

Misty looked back to the night sky, trying to pick out the right stars and shape.

“I spy a… sword.”

“A sword, huh” questioned Misty, one of her eyebrows raised up.

“Yeah,” side-eyed Ash. He took Misty’s hand and traced the stars. “As for the personality… smart, clean, dependable, someone you’d want to back you up.”

Misty side-eyed Ash. “That’s easy. It’s obviously Brock.”

“You sure? He does have some weird thing trying to flirt with the ladies.”

“Okay, minus that flaw, he is ‘smart, clean and dependable’. He knows so much about the world, even he could teach us a thing or two. Plus, his cooking is second to none, unlike some girl I know, who could turn toast into charco- OW!”  Misty punched Ash in the arm, giving him an annoyed look. “What was that for?!”

“In case you haven’t realized, Ash, my cooking has gotten better. Remember last nights dinner?”

“The orange chicken? Yeah, that was pretty good for a ready made meal.” Misty chuckled.

“Nope, you’re wrong on that front. Actually, it was made by yours truly,” Misty said,  both of her thumbs pointing at her chest. Ash looked dumbfounded.

“That was you?!”

“Yup. Told you my cooking got better.”

The things that surprise me, thought Ash.

“Okay, one last time. I found… a bird.” He again used Misty’s hand to trace the stars. She looked over to him, waiting for it’s meaning. Misty took the cue.

“Well, a bird could go anywhere it’d want to go. Up, down, left, right. It could just leave and never come back if it truly wanted to.”

Both took a while to think of who could it be, but Ash spoke up first.

“I think that’s you, Misty,” he said.

“Me?”

“Yeah, you. You’ve wanted to fly anywhere, even before we met. After we met, Sure, you had a duty to the gym, but it also felt like a a large anchor around your legs, dragging your way to your own dreams and wants.”

“It does feel like that sometimes,” she frowned, looking down. She lifted her head and smiled, “But when I’m with you, traveling to who knows where, I can truly soar.”

Ash scooted to Misty, and she let her head lean upon his shoulder. “I wish I could take you everywhere I go, but at some point, we’ll have to head home. Me to Pallet town, you to Cerulean. But, maybe…

Ash looked skyward, “…maybe some day, home would be the same place for the both of us.”

Misty stared at Ash, her cheeks turning red, and her eyes opening wide. Ash did a double-take, blushing himself.

“Maybe,” repeated Misty.

I couldn’t come up with Day 5 (Return of Togetic), so I did this instead, which was from another prompt from different fandom. Much of the dialogue is based off of the “The Walking Dead Game” by Telltale Games and Skybound Entertainment.
