For Jessie, James, and Meowth, it had been quite the ride as Team Rocket over the years. They had their ups and downs, chasing the ‘twerps’ and their possibly special or overpowered Pikachu, and using dubious means of catching it.
But that was then, and now? Now, the three were dining in a restaurant, trying to keep a bit low key. None of them were wearing disguises, unless you count different hairstyles and wearing non-Rocket outfits.
James had either shorter hair or just combed it for this occasion, wearing business-casual black suit with white pinstripes. Jessie was wearing a red dress, with her hair in a plaited ponytail instead of that long, sweeping mane. Meowth was wearing a suit jacket and tie, and nothing else. He was a Pokémon after all, that he did wear the costume before at one time or another.
There was a chime at the front doors, and Team Rocket looked who entered. All three stared at the two who had just entered the restaurant. The first was a man in a light gray suit. His black hair was short, but his chocolate brown eyes shone against the night sky.
The second was a woman with long, orange hair, and an asymmetrical yellow dress, and a matching bag. She was holding the man’s hand, only separating when they sat down.
Team Rocket watched the pair get seated in their reserved spot.
“It couldn’t be them, could it, James,” asked Jessie.
“It has to be them,” James answered, keeping his eyes on Ash and Misty. He then tapped a finger to his chin multiple times. “Hey… you think we should go up to them and congratulate them, now that they’re dating?”
Meowth slashed the back of Jame’s hand.
“Ow!”
“Of cours’ not, ya’ lunkhead,” Meowth hissed. “Ya’ really wanna interrupt their date?!”
“No, but-“
Meowth looked back and forth between the two humans he had worked with, and saw the looks in their eyes, and sighed.
“You two’s really want to talk to dem, huh?” The two humans nodded. “Fine, fine, just… be polite.” Meowth turned to Jessie. “Especially you."
“Me,” asked Jessie, incredulously.
“Yeah, you. You sometimes have a hair-trigger temper like ‘carrot top’ over there.”
Images ran through Jessie’s head of the times when Misty yelled at her, Ash, James, or Brock, or any combination of the four. She sighed.
“Fine. I’ll,” Jessie cleared her throat, “try to be polite.” James patted her shoulder.
“I do have the mural planned out,” Ash said, “I even put the pencil lines in.”
“Even so,” replied Misty, “I wanna see the photo first.”
“First thing tomorrow af— uh, hello,” Ash said, unsure of the man and woman who were now at their table. They did look familiar, but couldn’t place where he knew them from.
“Hello,” smiled Jessie.
“It’s good to see you again after all this time,” James also smiled.
“Do we know you,” asked Misty. Even she saw them as ‘familiar’ but nothing else.
“Well, it has been quite some time since we met,” shrugged Jessie. “Not since you made world champion.”
Ash smiled widely. “Ah, another pair of my fans, hm? Did you see the finals?”
Both Jessie and James nodded. “We were actually there,” smiled James. Ash turned to Misty who was now glowering.
“You’re interrupting our date,” Misty spat.
“We’re sorry about that,” James nervously said. “We don’t mean to be any trouble.”
“Might as well make this date a double,” smirked Jessie.
Ash and Misty’s mouths dropped open in shock.
“Team Ro-“ the two were about to say, but James cut the younger pair off.
“Tut-tut, we don’t want to create a panic, do we,” he asked. Ash and Misty relented.
“We’ve quit quite some time ago,” Jessie explained, “around the time you became champ.”
“If you want to call us anything, call us Mr. and Mrs. Masterson.”
The duo held up their ring fingers, showing a band on each. Both Ash and Misty were surprised for different reasons.
“You two are married,” asked Misty.
“Your last name’s Masterson,” asked Ash at the same time.
“Yes and yes,” Jessie and James answered.
“Uh… congrats,” befuddled Misty, a little unsure of what exactly to say.
“And we wanted to congratulate you two for getting together,” grinned James.
“Thanks,” Ash said nervously.
“Well, we should get back to our own table, shouldn’t we, Jess?”
“We should,” nodded James. Meowth turned to Ash and Misty.
“See ya two loveboids later,” Meowth waved. The former members of Team Rocket left while Ash and Misty took awhile to process what just happened.
And that's it for this part. In case you're wondering, James' last name is based from the lawman Bat Masterson. What about Jessie's last name, I hear you ask. I leave that up to the reader. -BatouWrites
