Summary
It was endearing the way the smallest words of praise affected him so deeply - and they always had; Jing Yuan had noticed it from the very first day they’d met. In particular he remembered Yanqing’s introductory assignment, and the faint blush that had stained his cheeks when Jing Yuan had called him up to give him feedback. The way he’d shuffled awkwardly, eagerly accepting the constructive criticism even as he basked brightly in the approval, almost glowing.
Of course, that had been an innocent pleasure because it was clear Yanqing genuinely longed to feel as though he had done well, and to have his efforts acknowledged by those he looked up to - something painfully lacking in his home life.
There was no innocence in this, though, Jing Yuan having warped that desire into something perverse that now coloured their every interaction.
But he could not say that he didn’t like it.
