Establishing the connection was fine (despite the prolonged eye contact that made you squirm).
Creating the bridge for him to cross was fine as well (you wouldn't say imaging a bridge is all that difficult).
The issue was after he crossed. Not only did the sudden intrusion of another soul make you jolt, but the chill of his soul made your own warm one bristle.
You tried to stay quiet as his soul poke, prodded and examined your own, but something in your gut began to twist.
"Please...stop..." You whispered as you dug your fingernails dug into your palms. "It...hurts..."
He called your name. Usually that would sooth you, ground you, but now it only seemed to rile the growing fire in you even more.
Your brows furrowed, as sweat began to gather on your forehead, "I...I can't..."
"Then calm down! I will leave, but you need to calm down first!" His voice sounded underwater. "If you don't stop, you'll be dead before I can leave!"
"Please..." You squeezed your eyes tighter, a few tears slipping free.
"Sunshine!"
And then you slipped from your chair, falling harshly against the floor.
Sweat and tears mixed as the intense heat consumed you.
Plink, plink, plink
You opened your eyes, head lolling to the side.
There were small shards of crystals on your floor.
You brought a hand up to your face.
There were crystal growing out the side of your hand.
You hummed. "So this is what nonexistence is...I thought I'd just fade away..."
Not all this, the pain and the beauty.
And yet, despite your current situation, you could only think about him.
"Grim, I'm sorry."
He gasped, as his consciousness was forced back into his body.
"Shit, shit, shit!" He leapt from his chair, teleporting from his bedroom to the waypoint closest to your apartment. "Fuck!"
His feet pounded against the asphalt, the harsh sound echoing against the buildings of the silent streets. His heart thumped wildly in his chest as his vision began to darken at the edges.
It was already beginning...
He had to get to you faster.
He quickly dropped into a crouch, building the strength of his legs and leaping into the air. He jumped from rooftop to rooftop, willing himself to go faster and faster.
Until he stood across from your building. He eyed your window, breathing a small sigh of relief as he realized your window was slightly opened.
"Kmysuin..." He whispered as the glamour washed over him. Now to the mortals he was just a lone raven roaming the skies. Then he stepped from the rooftop, his foot connecting with solid air.
His heart was in his throat now, but he couldn't hesitate. He had to do something. Despite the facts, you were an anomaly. So maybe, just maybe, he could do something to save you.
He pulled the window open more, and stepped in.
You were on the floor, propped up against the side of your bed.
He blinked.
You smiled.
"...hi, grim..."
You were crystallizing.
He dropped beside you, pulling his legs up to his chest.
"sorry...about this..." Your head dropped onto his shoulder.
He reached out for your rapidly crystallizing hand. You weren't a warm sunbeam anymore. Now you were the sun itself. Through your connected hands, he could feel your soul as it pulsed rapidly within you.
Fighting to for your existence.
"...i didn't mean..." You paused for a moment, then gripping his hand tighter before continuing, "can i tell you...a secret, grim?"
He nodded.
"...i love you...grim"
He sniffed, finally turning to face you. "I love you too." And with those four words, his tears finally ran free. "I have a secret for you too. My actual name is Casper."
Despite the crystal encasing your face, you smiled widely. "i love you, cas—"
And then you were gone. Your body, that was fully crystallized, began to disappear into beautiful sparks of dust.
He gripped your hand harder.
Until you were finally no more.
And he was left with nothing,
He opened his hand.
But a shard of you.
"I'm so sorry, Sunshine."
