“There’s Not Enough Rain”

Summary:

The boys handle a storm fairly well, with forts and preparation, it’s easy to remain calm.

Work Text:

When the first crack of thunder hit. Sapnap wasn’t terribly worried. Dream and George were big, they were recording a new minecraft video so Sapnap honestly didn’t think about it. And Punz wasn’t really too worried about it either, as he barely reacted to the sound while he folded some clothes. Sapnap had come down to his room to bug him and ended up staying to hang out. But as the thunder got louded, and the house started to vibrate.

“Uh oh,” Sapnap mumbled, slowly getting out of bed.

“What’s wrong?” Punz asked as he grabbed a pile of his clothes to put away.

“The rain, Dream doesn’t do too well with things like thunder and lighting. Big or small. Big Dream handles it better for the most part, just grabs his headphones, but Dreamie is… woo- finding that out for the first time wasn’t an easy task.”

“What about Georgie?” Punz asked, closing his drawer.

“I… do not know, guess we’ll find out today,” Sapnap said, opening the door and listening for the two of them. He wanted to make sure that they were either big or small. He heard Dream’s wild laughter, and he relaxed a bit. They were still recording, at least, that’s what Sapnap was going to safely assume.

That was until the lights flickered out.

“Oh shit,” Punz said, immedieatly grabbing his phone to flick on the flashlight.

“That’s gonna trigger an regression, will you get George and meet me in the living room?” Sapnap whispered, grabbing his own phone. Punz nodded, and they both carefully moved through the hallway, Punz going to Georgie’s door and Sapnap going to opened door. He openend it, seeing Dream looking back and forth in his room, and had looked at the door in a slight panic.

“Mama?” He whispered softly.

“Hi, Cubbie,” Sapnap whispered. “Everything’s okay, the power just went out for a little bit. Why don’t you come with me and Luke, yeah? C’mere…”

Dream slowly got up and out of his chair, moving to take his headphones off, but Sapnap grabbed his hands. “No, no, let’s leave those on. It’s loud outside, and I know you don’t like loud, okay? Let’s keep those on and protect your precious ears until we get somewhere that’ll be quieter, yeah?”

“Otay,” Dream whispered, taking Sapnap’s hand and letting himself slowly be led into the living room, where George was holding onto Punz and looking around with wide eyes, pacifier in his mouth, looking scared and confused.

“Okay, so we have a couple of options,” Sapnap said gently, mainly to Punz. “Downstairs would block out the sounds, but it’s raining really bad and there’s a flood warning, and the basement will be the first to flood because of it. We’ve had it happen before. Down here is second best, but with the windows everything, depending on how bad it rains and how flooded everything gets…” Sapnap sighed, opening his phone. “It’s supposed to be like this for hours, and it’s not hurricane season but…”

“Upstairs is the safest for water,” Punz mumbled.

“But closer to the thunder and lightning,” Sapnap sighed. “Techinally George’s normal room upstairs, his office is second best down here, both have the best outside blocking because of where they are in the house, so we wouldn’t hear too much in either of those rooms.”

“How worried are we about the flooding of the main floor?” Punz asked.

“The main floor has flooded before, but it was a horrible rain, and in hurricane season,” Sapnap mumbled, and Punz nodded. “Do we risk it?”

“We can always move them if we have too,” Punz whispered, and Sapnap nodded. “All the windows are closed?”

“Absolutely, we hate bugs and it rains a lot,” Sapnap nodded.

“Okay, let’s put towel’s down at the front and back doors, just in case, and then let’s probably go into George’s office,” Punz whispered. “If you want, we can make it more fun for them, make it a party, with a fort. Like camping?”

“Good thinking,” Sapnap whispered, looking at Dream who was silently looking around the room, jumping when a flash of lightening came through the cracks of the window curtains. “Hey, hey, it’s okay? Do you wanna build a fort? Block out all the sounds and lights?” Sapnap whispered, pulling Dream closer to him as he started to pout and whine in fear.

Dream nodded, and Sapnap smiled gently, “Okay, let’s go to Georgie’s office, yeah?”

In George’s office, there was the desk and stuff, of course, and there was the bed. He didn’t use the bed, he felt it was strange to record where he slept, but Sapnap had Dream sit down and smiled as Punz laid George down, the little immediately curling into Dream’s side instead.

“I’m going to do the towels and stuff, just in case,” Punz said gently, and Sapnap nodded.

“Babe!” He said just as Punz was going down the hallway, mainly without thinking. Punz, also without thinking, turned around and peeked his head in. “Will you grab their stuffies and Dreamie’s paci?”

“Yeah, course,” Punz nodded, and Sapnap thanking him as he started retreating.

Dreamie looked at him with wide eyes, a soft, giggly smile. “Hai Lukie,” He whispered, and Punz smiled.

“Hi, baby, are you two having fun?” Punz asked gently.

“Mhm,”

Within no time, Punz had returned and now the boy’s had their stuffed animals and Dreamie his paci. They used the bedframe and some of their tall stuffed animals and such to make the fort on the bed, so everyone could be comfortable.

“Oh shit, the fridge,” Sapnap whispered while the two littles played and giggled in the fort, Sapnap ‘reenforcing it’ (talking to Punz safely) outside.

“Fuck,” Punz groaned. “How long is the power usually out?”

Just as he said that, the winds and rain picked up shockingly harder, Sapnap genuinely though the wall was going to fall.

“It’s not coming back on anytime soon,” Sapnap groaned. “We have coolers in the garage, ice in both freezers, we might be able to preserve some of the meats we stocked up on. But someone’s gotta stay with them.”

“You get the coolers and I’ll stay with them, let me know when they’re in the kitchen and we’ll swap,” Punz suggested.

“Are you sure?” Sapnap asked.

“Yeah, I can layer ice and meat to make the most of it, I’ve done it before. Careful, though, the garage has most definitely been flooded by now.”

“Oh absolutely,” Sapnap groaned. “I’ll be back.”

Punz nodded, moving to climb into the fort, only his top half really, and play with the kids until Sapnap got back.

Dreamie smiled at Punz, headphone’s slowly falling off of his head until Punz moved to adjust them back. “Hi, Punize,” Dreamie whispered, and Punz smiled.

“Hi sweetheart,” Punz whispered back, “are you two having fun?”

“Mhm, gots Pop and Ewli,” Dreamie whispered, and Georgie nodded in agreement, squeezing his stuffed elephant. “Are’s we pwaying hide-go-seek?”

“Yeah, something like that I guess,” Punz whispered. “We’re hiding from the rain, I guess.”

“I don wike da wain,” Dreamie whispered. “Is woud and scawry…”

“I know, baby, I don’t like it much either,” Punz reassured gently, “Here, why don’t we play, you keep your headphones on so that the loud sounds don’t scare you, and the three of us can play pretend until Mama gets back in here.”

The power took hours to come back, and in that time, Sapnap and Punz worked together to keep the kids entertained and distracted while they kept up with things to make sure the house was easy to work with once the power was back.  The children were fairly well distracted, a couple of loud strikes cause a couple of tense moments, but for the most part the kids stayed calm. Somehow, they got the Kids to sleep, even before the power came back on Georgie fell asleep first and Dreamie fought for a while before falling asleep to Punz's soft humming and gentle touches.

The two sat together, in mostly darkness and silence, watching Sapnap’s phone as Punz’s had died since he used it as a flashlight for most of the time. Punz’s head resting on Sapnap as the younger scrolled through tiktok. Sapnap genuinely jumped as the house powered back on, the room buzzing with electricity and light. “Welcome back,” Sapnap mumbled, and Punz gently chuckled at him. “Ready to change all the clocks?”

“Yep,” Punz groaned, sitting up. “And plug my phone in.”

Sapnap laughed gently as they started going around the house to start fixing stuff up. The regressors stayed asleep while they worked, setting the house back up, making sure there was no flooding anywhere thankfully, even the basement help up and stayed dry.

Eventually, they met back up in the living room, sitting down with a soft exhaled laugh from both of them, taking a moment to relax once again. Punz exhaled, leaning his head back against the couch, “Fridge is restocked, none of the food really went bad, thankfully.”

“Thank god,” Sapnap sighed, scratching the side of his head.

There was a while of peaceful quiet. The rain hadn’t stopped completely, but it was more like a nice drizzle that filled the house with a relaxing atmosphere. Punz ended up turing his head to look at Sapnap, accidentally staring.

“Did you call me babe eariler?” He whispered, and Sapnap pushed his eyebrows together in thought.

“Mm, I think I did,” Sapnap chuckled, meeting Punz’s gaze. “Whoops, guess I was distracted with other things.”

“It’s not a problem, I was just thinking about it,” Punz chuckled. “I can be your babe, if you want.”

“You’re such an idiot,” Sapnap laughed, pushing himself up off the couch, “I’m gonna go check on them.”

“Okay sugerlips,” Punz teased, and Sapnap flipped him off with a soft laugh as he walked down the hallway to George’s office.
