Sweet and Sappy fic

Work Text:

It’s 1:00 am and Kara is standing on the balcony looking out at the city. Her mind racing. Today had really bothered her.

Damn Brainy and his comment about “soulmates”.

-- Earlier--

Kara excitedly walked into L-Corp. She had been gone a week fighting off an alien on another planet and missed her girlfriend terribly.

“Hi, Jess! Where’s Lena?”

“Hello, Miss Danvers. She’s down in the lab with her new assistant, Miss Chloe Clarke.”

“Thanks Jess!” Kara made her way to the elevators. She tried to think back on past conversations with Lena and she hadn’t mentioned a Chloe.

Kara rounded the corner and smiled hearing Lena’s voice but stopped when she saw the interaction between the two.

She watched as the two talked animately about their research, new inventions and upcoming projects. Kara couldn’t help but feel self conscious as she wasn’t able to have this bond with Lena. She did her best and would sometimes give her two cents but she’d get bored quickly and end up watching tick tock on her phone.

Kara continued to stand there feeling awkwardand unsure how to make herself known.

“Hey Kara!” Brainy walked up. “Have you met Chloe? She’s lovely and I think she’s Lena’s soulmate.”

Kara was surprised she didn’t snap her neck turning to look at Brainy, “What?!”

“Soulmates. Two souls that are compatible. After observing them this week I’ve come to this conclusion. I know you don’t believe in soulmates and I have no proof that they’re real, but maybe they could be.”

“You know …Lena and I are very compatible. So much that she’s my girlfriend Brainy!”

“Maybe you can have more than one?” Brainy shrugged before walking into the lab.

Kara contemplated hurling Brainy into the sun. She was so lost in thought that she didn’t notice her girlfriend walking towards her until arms wrapped around her neck.

“Hello, Darling! Why didn’t you tell me you were here! I’ve missed you so much!”

Kara’s thoughts faded as she embraced her girlfriend. “Hi, baby. I missed you!”

Lena smiled before kissing her girlfriend. The kiss was short as they were amongst company. “Darling, let me introduce you to Miss Clarke. She’s been helping me this week.”

“Hello, My name is Chloe. I’ve heard a lot about you, Kara.”

“Thanks, I wish I could say the same.”

“Sorry, dear, we’ve just been so busy making break throughs that I forgot to mention it.” Lena felt guilty for not telling Kara. It was an honest mistake and she knew her relationship with Kara was solid.

“It’s okay. Do you want to share what you’ve been working on.”

Kara spent the rest of the afternoon watching as Lena and Chloe worked flawlessly side by side. Brainy’s comment only adding fuel to the fire brewing in her mind.

Lena heard Kara’s stomach rumble and she suggested they put an end to the day’s work.

“Kara, do you want pizza or Chinese tonight? I’ll put in an order.”

“Whatever you want.” Kara said not really paying attention.

Lena looked at her quizzically as they waited for her driver to arrive. “Love, are you okay? You’re usually more excited about food.”

“I guess I’m just tired. It’s been a long week.”

“It has been and I’ve missed you so much. When we get home we can eat and cuddle on the couch.” Lena wrapped her arms around Kara’s waist leaning in to press a kiss to her cheek before nuzzling it with her nose.

Kara smiled grabbing Lena’s chin pulling her in for a kiss.

Back home the two cuddled underneath the blankets. Lena laying on top of Kara. Kara laughed thinking she’d be the clingy-touchy one in the relationship but Lena surprised her. Kara gave no more thought to earlier and enjoyed being in the moment with her girlfriend.

“I really missed you, Lee. I love you.” Kara brushed some of Lena’s hair away from her face.

“I love you too. God, I missed you. The bed is way too big without you. All I did was work because I didn’t want to come home to an empty apartment. I guess it’s a good thing Miss Clarke was okay working crazy hours.”

Kara had to hold back from rolling her eyes and keeping the bite out of her voice. “Yes, I’m glad you had Miss Clarke. You two have a lot in common.”

“It’s been nice to finally find a lab partner who doesn’t double my work.”

“That’s great Lee.”

Lena snuggled deeper into Kara’s arms falling asleep. Completely unaware of how her girlfriend was feeling. Kara looked down at Lena and pressed a kiss to her forehead. She was scared Lena would eventually leave her for someone better. Kara gently lifted Lena and carried her to bed. She tucked her in with a kiss and walked out to the balcony.

———

Kara stared out at the city. “Stupid Brainy,” she said into the night.

She thought about flying around the city. Before she could take off she heard a noise behind her. She turned and saw Lena wrapped in a blanket looking at her.

Kara turned and gave a soft smile before opening her arms. Lena immediately moved into her arms.

“Why are you out here? When I woke up I reached out for you and you weren’t there.” Lena pouted against Kara’s neck.

“I couldn’t sleep.”

“How come? Please tell me.”

“Something Brainy said today.”

“Darling, please don’t listen to his ramblings. Man has no filter sometimes. Tell me ..what did he say?”

“Umm..”

Lena leaned back to look at Kara silently encouraging her to open up.

“He said you and Miss Clarke were soulmates because after watching you this week he concluded you were very compatible. Then after spending the afternoon with you guys I’m afraid he might be right. I know I don’t believe in soulmates, but that wouldn’t stop you from leaving.” Kara felt embarrassed and wanted to put distance between her and Lena. She loosened her grip and tried to back away, but was unable too.

Lena’s heart broke hearing this and she wasn’t going to allow Kara to think there was even a 1% chance she’d leave her. She felt Kara start to pull away so she tightened her grip around her. “Kara, my love, I don’t believe in soulmates either.”

“You don’t?!” Kara’s eyes went wide.

“No. I as a scientist I prefer things with concrete proof. Soulmates come with too many what ifs that can’t be tested. What I do know to be fact is how much I love you and you love me. It’s seen through our actions and heard through our words. I can also test this through how I feel when I am with you. I know that you make me feel safe, cherished and loved. When we make love my whole body burns with desire. This has never been the case with anyone else. It doesn’t matter if we get along with other people because the feelings we bring out in each other can not be replicated by someone else. Kara, I apologize if I made you feel that Miss Clarke had a chance of coming between us because that isn’t true. I love you so much, baby. If you ever have doubts again please tell me so I can kiss away your fears.” Lena traced a finger along Kara’s jawline.

Kara had tears in her eyes listening to her girlfriend. “Lena, I have been all over this world/ universe and seen sights others can only dream off, and yet none of them hold a candle to you. Everything about is beautiful and I thank Zhao everyday for making you my person. I don’t need you to be my soulmate to know we were meant to be together forever. I love you Lena. I love you so much!!”

Kara cupped Lena’s cheeks bringing her in for a kiss that quickly turned passionate. Both women clung to each other. Hands roamed and moans filled the night.

“Take me bed, supergirl. Its been a long week without your touch.”
