As Catherine Marie Rollins going in labor a week over her due date and in the Honolulu hospital. Due to the COVID restrictions, only one person can be outside the delivery room as Steve J McGarrett, former Navy Seal, Navy Intelligence Agent, Five 0 Commander is facing the most pressure he has had in his life outside over in catching criminals and throwing them in jail....about to be a first time dad.
Nobody knew that better than his partner, Danny "Danno" given name Daniel Donald Williams a father of two. He is also there to be the baby boy, named Jackson Doris Rollins McGarrett after Steve's late parents, Jack aka John McGarrett and Doris McGarrett. Plus Rollins due to Catherine's surname as she will call herself Catherine Rollins McGarrett come New Year's Eve wedding.
Steve is usually calm and level headed and Danny is usually a man over in limited patience and temperamental. But here he was with Steve. He even drove Steve in his own Camaro in order to teach Steve to be transparent and to only ask if he wanted to drive. So far Steve hasn't asked. And he doesn't want to have another blow up like he did back with Danny that nearly destroyed their friendship and partnership. He has gotten better but in Danny's mind, still need to really understand he needs to keep his promises like Danny and the other Five-0 members expect him to be.
They have given him trust and in return all they ask is that he trust them. Usually more the former than the latter.
Steve was pacing nervous over Catherine giving birth as she was a week late and didn't want to go through a C-section.
Plus Catherine was an older woman and soon to be mom and didn't want her to have contractions even more.
Steve hoped that his son would follow him into police work and maybe the military as it was generations in the McGarrett family.
But he knew that his baby son needed to be a baby and a child first and foremost.
While waiting for Catherine as the doctors had to ask Steve to be outside due to other babies being born along the way. And also due to the COVID regulations only doctors and nurses could be in.
Steve's pacing made Danny even more nervous. He had to get up and calm down the new father to be.
"Calm down Steve. Let the doctors and nurses doing their jobs. Delivering the baby boy to you. As a father of two myself."
"How can I Danny? I am not allowed in the delivery room. Of all days, two days before Christmas before I get to see Jackson Doris Rollins McGarrett! Dang COVID prevented that!"
Danny in putting his arm around him and offered something else to him.
"I will offer you a deal. If you can get Catherine and Jackson home tomorrow on Christmas Eve, the day before Christmas. You can ride my Camaro and drive Catherine home with your baby son. But there is a catch to this..." Danny told Steve who now had his attention.
"OK what is the catch?!" Steve perking up and looking at Danny.
"I get to drive your truck as I never got to drive your truck. Please let me drive your truck at least. Promise not to do anything crazy like you did my Camaro. Please?!" Danny pleaded.
Steve thought and thought and looking at Danny's puppy eyes he defended himself. "I only drive your Camaro in chasing criminals and when I got carsick. Thank goodness I am taking medication but really drive my truck. No way and..." Danny not budging.
Steve finally relented like Danny did when Steve did drive his Camaro..."OK you can drive my truck. Guess I owe you after 13 years over in commandeering your Camaro and it is only fair." Danny jumping up and down and putting his arms up in victory about to yell.
"Be quiet as you don't want the waiting room people to come and shush us harsly now do you Danno?" Steve gestured him while putting his hands on Danny's victorious arms.
Danny cooled it and Steve gave Danny the keys to his Silverado and Danny did the same for his Camaro keys.
But still Steve was not so sure of being a dad though he had been awesome with kids despite being awkward when he returned home to Hawaii after his father was murdered but due to Danny rubbing off on him with Grace, now an honorary uncle for her and Charlie.
"Really Danny I am usually very good with kids but this will be mine forever. Watching him grow all around. But really don't know if I am worth it or that if I am very much prepared!" Steve sitting down and looking nervous as Danny put his right arm around him.
"Steve you got this. You really had Grace in a sense as for practice. Really you will be an awesome father. Know it and really am honored and humbled over in the being named Godfather and best man to your wedding. Will be a very beautiful wedding to say the least. But you will really be a loving and fair father." Danny looking at Steve knowing the Commander is known for being very much daring and fearless in the face of both death, tragedy, and serving and defending his country and world.
But fatherhood and marriage was an individual accomplishment that had to be earned and given like he did as in the Navy Seals and the Commander for Five 0.
"Thank you Danny. As Grace and Charlie have helped me out so much. Plus glad you are going to be the Godfather over in our new soon to be baby son." Steve putting his arms around his BFF.
They had been at the hospital since they got off from work at 6PM Hawaiian time. But now it is 3AM and that they could not sleep or eat, due to excitement over in the baby that would be Steve's son.
Catherine was a week late and after two trips only to be sent home over in the baby not being here yet. But when she came the third time, the hospital started to put here in the hospital until the baby arrived.
Steve was about to dose off and Danny looking at his boss, partner, surrogate brother, and BFF Steve like a hawk
A doctor came on in and told Steve, waking him up, what he and Danny along with Catherine desperately wanting to deliver....at 4:15AM Hawaiian Time, Jackson Doris Rollins McGarrett had finally arrived! Steve and Catherine were new parents.
Danny looking proudly as a new godfather technically. New member over in the Ohana family!
