Summary
The packet was tied into a little bundle by a silk scarf patterned with English roses. I reluctantly concluded that these papers must have been present but overlooked in the trunk for more than 30 years. After only half of the first page, it became clear why the author had segregated these notes. After three pages, I went to take a cold shower. . .
You may choose to read them together as one oeuvre, as I did on the evening I discovered them. If you prefer to intersperse them into the previously published narratives, I have indicated for each passage where you should place them. Or, if you like your Russell and Holmes less blue-tinged, you may elect to leave them unread, re-packaged, metaphorically, into their silk wrapping (which for you will have remained an innocent scarf and have acquired no further significance) and tucked back into the trunk between the purple velvet and the beaded evening cape.
