Winter Break 2023.
He is still him, sharp jaw, straight nose and doe eyes, Max thinks, and he still has this weird undying faith in his godforsaken team-and at what cost.
He's close enough now, more than he has been since the last race had ended a few weeks earlier in Abu Dhabi, but perhaps he'd been on too much of a high during this record breaking season of his to notice the sullen, almost robotic face expressions Charles wears and the way his smile never seem to reach his eyes anymore these days.
Or maybe he's just that way when Max is around.
In the end, it doesn't really matter, what Charles thinks of him, and if he is suffering.
Except it does matter, because Max is obligated to share a few days of his break with him, and not, like, because he's in love with him, or anything (spoiler alert : he is).
