You can only save those who want to be saved

Summary:

You, the Player, stay behind after the Spamton NEO fight and think about some things....

*EDIT: Made some minor revisions because they were eating me alive thinking about how I originally wrote this. Hope you enjoy still lol!*

Notes:

This was just a small oneshot I randomly got the urge to write. This is my first time actually writing so I appreciate any criticism!

Work Text:

"take care of yourself, kid. 'Cause someone out there really cares about you."

The memory played in your head.

...

You look over to where the salesman's body was hung up. The memory looped in your head again, and again. Something about your- er, no, Frisk's friends, back in Undertale, comforted you. Even if it was a route where you failed to free the underground.

You had let Kris, and the others by default, go ahead after the fight. So, now, here you sat. Alone. In a small room. Inside a dingy basement. Where the lifeless body of what used to be Spamton used to hang right next to you. Before he gave himself to- Kris. Kris. As the Dealmakers...

In a weird way, this reminds you of Asriel, back in Undertale. No matter how many times you tried to talk to him, how many times you reset... You could never save him. He would never budge.

Your eyes return to Spamton's body... You don't know why you feel like you need to save everybody. Why you can't accept the fact that maybe some people can't be saved. But you just... Feel the need to...

...

But, that's just it... Isn't it? Some people can't be saved. Some people don't want to be saved. Asriel had his reason's not to go with you. Or, more so, Frisk. And Spamton also had (you feel sick thinking about that... "had") his reasons...

...

  You chuckle, pitifully.

You should go now. Maybe, just maybe, everything will work out in the end... but, you know that's only wishful thinking on your end.

  After all...

You take one last look at Spamton, and take a deep breath, before leaving the room.

You can only save those who want to be saved...

Yet you'll still try to save them....
