Gemini

Summary:

What happens to one happens to the other.

Many people, including themselves, thought that the Midoriya twins were quirkless, the truth was that the two had a bond that began to manifest as Izuku began his training.

Notes:

Hello a fun idea a friend gave to me to get my juices flowing again.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Officially, they were quirkless. They apparently didn’t have the quirked toe bone thing that their quack of a doctor was talking about, but a little bit of googling on her part revealed that that was basically a bullshit theory that had no scientific evidence whatsoever. But, the problem was that it was hard to actually prove that they had a quirk.

Because “I have a twin.” while quirky and rarer than actually being quirkless wasn’t really a quirk.

But Izumi and her twin brother Izuku thought otherwise. Whenever he got hurt, she would get hurt, whenever she got tired, he would get tired, hell if Izuku took a nap and she didn’t she would feel better like she had taken a nap.

But trying to explain that to an adult was hard, since they would just wave it off as twin shit.

“Then explain this?” Izumi held up her arm in the mirror, her toothbrush half hanging out of her mouth. Her nightshirt shifted as she pulled back the sleeve and flexed. Before, there would have been nothing, nada, zip, zilch, a straight line had more definition than she did. But now, she had something, enough for her to be considered ‘fit,’ by normal people's standards.

She reached over and felt her developing muscles and squeezed them softly.

Firm.

How many girls in her school could even do this? Maybe some of the soccer players? But, then there was also.

Izumi pulled up her shirt and stared at her stomach. While she could exactly call them abs, she could say that her stomach was cut, sculpted, defined, chiseled even, there were only two kids at their school that actually had abs.

One was Katuski Bakugo, who she had very complicated feelings about for a wide range of reasons, he was pretty much the only guy who had actually earned abs through just hard work. The other was Brock, whose quirk was “Big Oily Muscles.” which allowed him to just grow big oily muscles that were akin to a bodybuilders. Only…they were full of air and didn’t count.

Kacchan might be full of hot air but his muscles were real.

A third one would likely be her ‘little’ brother since these muscles were likely coming from him.

Considering how for the past four months he’d been actually working out quite a lot, leaving her feeling exhausted enough in the mornings that she had a hard time getting up on time for school and just feeling rather sore.

Their mother, the school nurse, her friend (singular), homeroom teacher, and even Katsuki just chalked it up to puberty.

Izumi let out a sigh and let her shirt drop. The puberty thing was hard to really address, even if her and Izuku had been more or less identical up until relatively recently, there was no denying that they looked pretty different now. For starters, she had to wear a bra, and not a training bra, an actual to goodness bra, that thankfully her brother did not have to wear, because that meant that there was less of a chance of her having to worry about shaving her face.

There were other differences too, mostly in her hair, and a bit in the face, and then there was her waist, hips, and thighs, that were also just, doing things that were different from how her brother was doing things.

Izumi brushed her teeth slightly and then raised her eyebrow. Without tearing her eyes from the mirror she stared at herself for a moment before she brought up her leg to the mirror and rolled up her pajama pants.

She flexed her calf.

Much like her arm the muscle that bulged wasn’t exactly impressive, but it was absolutely there.

“Huh-huh,” Izumi stared at herself in the mirror for a while, slowly brushing her teeth before she spat out the toothpaste and let out a long sigh. With a long sigh, she began to tie her hair into a loose ponytail. Loose was a very subjective word there, as it implied that her mop of hair could be contained by a single scrunchy, as was ponytail since the whole thing ended up looking like an ant with a giant thorax.

“Maybe, now that we actually look different I should get it cut.” She pondered, wondering how short she should end up going. Honestly, super short, shorter than Izuku’s sounded like a dream with how much of a pain their hair was.

“I could maybe even work out easier too.” She mumbled touching her stomach again. There used to be nothing but a bit of flap there. With another sigh, Izuku scratched her head. When Izuku had first started to work out, he had been evasive, secretive even, but she just figured that he was doing his part to help them not be the same. Which, was totally fine. It was why she had grown her hair out in the first place. Her brother was allowed to do something on his own without her.

But still, she was kind of feeling guilty about benefiting from his effort.

“What if I’m just leeching off his hard work?” She muttered on her way out of the bathroom, Izuku was already gone for her pre-school workout-run thing, but his plate of food was still at the table. The thought of stealing Izuku’s hard work made her stomach knot and twist. “Maybe I should join a sports team or something to make things easy. There’s also Sienna, but she might want to do things on her own.”

“Or I could start to work out on my own? No idea how to do that. I could maybe ask Kacchan for advice, he’d probably give it since it would inflate his ego, or maybe the P.E. teacher? Wait, no he’s kinda useless. Maybe a gym membership? I think there are a few programs that’ll help. Oh, something Like a Dojo might help. Skills and knowledge kind of transfer.”

Their exam scores have always more or less been identical, even when she choose not to study history just to prove it. “So if Izuku’s serious about getting into U.A. he’d be able to do more than flail his arms. I might even apply myself.”

The due dates were soon.

“Or I can just figure out what a body needs. Would it be more efficient for both of us to workout though? Or would we get more from me resting and him running?”

“Or you could try talking to your brother?”

Izumi nearly jumped as her mother appeared behind her with a large bowl of rice in her hand that was topped with a pork cutlet. Inko Midoriya was more or less a stereotypical Japanese mother. Kind of short, long straight hair (that Izumi was infinitely jealous of), slender, and looked like she hadn’t aged past 25.

“Come on Izumi, your brother’s already eaten and I don’t want your meal to get cold again.” Her mother began to nudge her gently with her elbow. “You’ll have plenty of time to get dressed before school starts. And you’ll need all your energy for exams.”

“I know I know,” Izumi muttered as her mother pushed her forward. Well besides the exam thing. She had completely spaced that finals were today and that summer vacation was right around the corner. And her body was actually bikini-ready for once.

Oh, and their birthday was soon.

“I just wish your brother would have focused on his studying a bit more, but he’s been so active lately.” Inko let out a laugh and waved her hand. “It’s almost like I only have one child at the moment.”

“I wouldn’t worry about Izuku’s scores Mom.” Izumi let out a soft smile as she sat down to eat. Her mother made the best pork cutlet rice bowls. “I studied enough for both of us.”

“Oh, you two and that whole twin quirk. I really do wish that was true though.”

She could start another argument that it was true, but that would mean less time to eat. “He’ll be fine, we always score the same.”

Inko just hummed and returned to the kitchen with Izuku’s plate. “Well I hope that same score isn’t failing, I need at least one of you to go to a good school so you can get a good job. Honestly, I don’t know why he’s still so set on this hero business.”

Izumi twitched. Izuku had always been vocal about wanting to be a hero, more vocal than she had been, but that didn’t mean that she didn’t want to follow that dream too. She was just… She understood where her mother was coming from. But that didn’t mean she was right.

“I was actually thinking about applying to U.A. too,” Izumi said loudly. A dish slipping into the sink acted as a period for her statement. “Not that I want to be a hero.” That was a lie. “But, maybe I could get into the support course? I’m pretty sure that I can do well in there, and it’ll be a pretty good job too.”

“Oh, that’s a great idea!” Inko picked up the dropped dish and smiled back at her daughter. “You’ll even be able to stay with Katsuki, Mitsuki would be absolutely thrilled if you got in.”

The strange conflicting feelings she had for Kacchan made her pork taste funny.

XXXX

Izumi groaned as she poked at her lunchtime meal, it really felt like she had too much shit to do to even bother with eating. The exams were exhausting. Thinking about her brother was exhausting, trying not to let the world gaslight her into thinking she’s quirkless was exhausting, and just the whole general existing thing was exhausting.

“You okay Izumi? You look tired, well more tired than normal.” Sienna, Izumi’s classmate and singular friend leaned down to ask, concern written on her face as her cat-like ears twitched with concern. Despite being by far the tallest girl in the entire school, teachers included, Sienna was for lack of a better word shy. Very shy. Like, the kind of shy that if a conversation had more than two people she would try to run away.

Sienna blamed her quirk, “Snow-Leopard” that gave her some snow leopard traits, such as ears, and a tail that was so long that if it was a person it would be taller than Sienna. And also things like being incredibly shy, and the ability to just like climb a mountain, jump off a cliff and be fine.

“Well, I mean, you do look tired in the eyes, and face, not that you look bad or anything, you actually look pretty good kinda! Like, you’re working out or something?” Sienna reached over and poked Izumi’s arm. “Like, you look like you could actually go rock climbing with me!”

Sienna’s tail gave a long twitch that flowed through it until it slapped against the ground with an audible thwack.

Izumi wasn’t sure if snow leopards actually wagged their tail but it was still kind of cute seeing Sienna that excited about something that wasn’t food.

“Sure, maybe over summer break.”

“Awesome!” Sienna’s eyes sparkled and she kicked her legs for a moment. “I can’t wait to show you the ropes.”

Izumi rolled her eyes at the pun and tried not to let her exhaustion get to her anymore. Planning for the summer was a great way to get her mind off of things.

“Out of the way you damn extras!”

That instantly proved to be futile, as one Katsuki Bakugou parted the sea of students that had gathered near the door like he was Moses. Assuming Moses was Japanese, blonde, and had the temperament of an angry kitten that had been assaulted by multiple balloons. Once again all those conflicting feelings that Izumi had for Katsuki came bubbling up and she at once wanted to run away, hide her head, and stare at him.

She didn’t have enough hands to “On the one hand” him, because there were so many things that Katsuki was and had been to her. Childhood friend, playground rival, Her First Crush, an Asshole, her brother’s bully, a future hero, a good student, academic rival, the boy who her mother was convinced she was going to marry, a blonde, an asshole, someone that was twice as serious about becoming a hero as anyone else in their grade right up until Izuku started to train. But perhaps most importantly, he was an asshole.

And a stupid dumb jerkface.

And he was heading right towards her.

Why did he have to be blonde? She liked blonde.

“Oi!” Katsuki grabbed a chair from a nearby desk without asking and slammed down right next to her. “Izumi.”

To her right, Sienna sunk in her chair and leaned over her desk in an attempt to hide herself from Katsuki’s just general hostility to peace of mind.

“What do you want, Kacchan.” The Nickname was used for two reasons. One, it was just what her and Izuku called him and it was hard to stop, and two, it bugged him.

Which was a good reason.

He glared at her, which was honestly just how he looked at people and placed an elbow on her desk and let out a low growl before breaking eye contact and glaring at a wall.

Izumi raised her eyebrow waiting for him to get to the point.

The awkward silence was long enough that her eyebrow was starting to get sore.

“Deku,” Katsuki growled. “What’s up with him?”

“What do you mean?” Izumi asked taking a bite of her lunch. She didn’t even taste it, she just wanted Katsuki to realize that she was too busy trying to eat to start a real conversation.

“He’s…” His brow furrowed and he drummed his fingers on her desk. “Less fucking obnoxious. Which is somehow more annoying than what he normally does.”

Izumi placed down her chopstick and tilted her head to the side as though she was in thought. “Well, maybe after some former friend of his told him to jump off the roof and made fun of him for his dream he decided to get serious about his dreams?”

Katsuki was oddly silent.

“Or maybe, the fact that he risked his life to save said former friend later that day, but couldn’t and had to be saved by All Might? Or maybe it was because he finally got to meet All Might that gave him the kick in the pants to stop complaining and start doing something?” Izumi crossed her arms and stared at Katsuki.

It was probably a good thing that their ‘quirk’ didn’t transfer memories. Too much of a risk of them just becoming the same person.

“So…” Katsuki began to tap his finger and shake his leg hard enough to make her lunch start to bounce. He stopped after a moment and let out an annoyed growl. “He’s serious about going to U.A. then.”

“As serious as you are.” Izumi glared. “And I think I’m going to join him.”

Katsuki’s eyes widened and then narrowed at her. “What?”

“Not in the hero course, but, in the support course.”

Katsuki’s shoulders fell and his face softened.

“I have the grades for it, and—”

“Yeah, yeah, it suits you.”

She wasn’t sure if that was an insult or not.

“But, Deku, what’s he doing? Is he getting help or something because…” Katsuki growled and furrowed his brow. “It looks like he knows what he’s doing, and has a coach or something.”

“No idea.”

“He’s your twin.”

“So? He’s still his own person. Just like I am.” She pushed back at her hair and leveled a glare at him. “All I know is that ever since that whole slime villain stuff happened he’s been waking up early and coming home late, oftentimes exhausted, but he still works out every night before bed.”

“What does he do?”

“Squats, push-ups, he even got some weights as an early birthday present.”

“How many?”

“I don’t sleep in the same room as him anymore, why would I know?” Izumi let out an annoyed sound. “And why do you care so much? Don’t you hate Izuku?”

Katsuki just growled.

“Don’t growl at me, use your goddamn words Kaaaaachaaaaaan.” Izumi narrowed her eyes at him. “I’m answering your questions. Izuku is serious about being a hero, he’s training his ass off to make his dream come true, and you’re his friend, you should be happy that he’s actually trying and fucking support him. Now leave me alone, I need to have a good meal if I’m going to beat your exam scores again.”

Katsuki shot up from his seat with enough force to knock it over and he stared at her for a couple of seconds before. “Fine, you’re both fucking annoying anyways.”

Izumi felt her ears begin to burn as she watched Katsuki leave the room. It was always like this Katsuki would come to find her, he’d piss her off then a couple of weeks later he’d give her his umbrella or something in some shitty tsundere way.

“God I wish he’d grow up,” Izumi muttered and turned back to her meal, trying to ignore the feeling that she was going to be the center of gossip for a long while after this most recent encounter.

She felt someone pull on her sleeve and looked towards Sienna who was still face down on her desk. “Uhh, sorry for not uhh, yeah.”

“It’s alright Sienna, but uhh, I think I’ll take you up on that rock climbing stuff, it’s good exercise right.”

“Yeah!” Sienna shot to her full height and then paused and placed both hands on her head. “Woah, head rush.”

Izumi glared at her food before she started to eat.

Izuku might want to keep his secrets, but it was her duty as his ‘big’ sister to support him any way she could. She was going to hedge her bets on this strange link she and Izuku held to make his training go easier and make sure that neither of them failed their classes.

A week later when the exam results were posted, Izumi was happy to see that once again her and Izuku had both beaten Katsuki’s scores, making for a streak of three.

XXXX

For the most part, Katsuki had simply taken to avoiding both her and Izuku since that day, with only a few “Get out of the way.” and the occasional grunt marking anytime he actually acknowledged their existence.

But, it wasn’t exactly like she had the free time to actually spare him much more of a thought beyond “Oh, it’s that guy again.” The Support course wasn’t just something someone could apply to, just because they had excellent grades did not mean that they had what it took, there were study manuals, and courses on the subject, enough stuff that it felt like she was going to school twice.

What little time wasn’t spent studying, was split between doing her own exercises, hanging out with Sienna, and sleeping.

But, as busy as she was. Izuku was worse.

Much worse. Nearly every waking second was dedicated to training his ass off. And the results were showing. For both of them. She could do things like a handstand with no problem at all. And both of them had gone from scrawny, to fit, to absolutely cut. Like, she had a six-pack.

What 15-year-old had one of those?

But, the point was that if it wasn’t for her actually studying for them, Izuku’s grades no doubt would have slipped.

Besides freaks like Katsuki.

But she had to hand it to Katsuki, he was great at igniting a fire under her ass to actually get shit done.

Now if only there was an actual fire under her ass she’d maybe be able to make some actual progress.

Sienna gripped the rocky outcropping like her life depended on it. Her entire body was more or less glued to the rest of the stone. It wasn’t that she couldn’t pull herself up at this point, that part was actually surprisingly easy once she found a foothold or something. It was like a pull-up.

But completely different.

Rock Climbing involved balance, footwork, control, and simply being able to move her body in a controlled way, something that she was struggling with. And then there was the ground. It wasn’t that Izumi was afraid of heights, she just had a healthy respect for gravity and a slight uncertainty towards the wires that were securing her.

“Come on Izumi you got this!” Sienna descended from her spot, her long legs and arms allowing her to easily grab onto various holds that Izumi would struggle with, all while her long fluffy snow leopard tail helped her maintain balance. Climbing for Sienna was probably as easy as walking. Maybe easier. “This is the beginner course, and you’re strong enough to do it.”

“I know I know, I just.” Izumi looked at the rocks before her and felt her head spin as she tried to figure out what was a handhold and a foothold. She could reach those, but she didn’t know where her feet would go afterward the rock wall beneath her was well she wasn’t exactly in the looking-down business. “Where do I put my hands?”

“That’s the fun part!” Sienna’s smile was wider than Izumi had ever seen it at school. “It’s like a puzzle! You have to figure it out!”

“What if I’m wrong.”

“Try again.”

“I’ll fall!”

Sienna rolled her eyes, and practically sprinted upwards, her body moving so fast that Izumi felt dizzy. Once she reached the top Sienna jumped back, the cable line letting out a hissing noise as she landed next to Izumi far more gracefully than Izumi herself could muster.

“Hi,” Sienna said her head level with Izumi’s. Maybe just barely lower than hers. Meaning that Sienna was standing on the ground. And that Izumi had climbed a total of about a foot and a half.

Her face felt hot.

“So, I think that you should try to place your hand here.” Sienna tapped onto the large red rock that was close to a teal one that looked like it would be easy to grab. “From there, you should bring that same leg up to here.” She tapped on another rock, one that was beneath Izumi’s arm. “And then just move your other side up where it feels comfortable. And just repeat that pattern going up. I like to go hand foot foot-hand when I go up.” Sienna waved her right hand, then wiggled her right leg, then her left leg, and finished with her left hand. “But you should do what feels better for you.”

Izumi stared at her for a moment, what she was saying were words that Izumi kind of understood, but together? Not so much.

With a deep breath, she stared at the red rock and then lowered herself down slightly and launched upwards, the momentum giving her enough power to grab onto the grippy surface of the rock and secure a handhold. Her foot slipped twice against the rock wall face before she managed to find her foothold and start to pull herself up once more.

“Keep going,” Sienna urged. “Take your time and just focus on the next step.”

“I thought that you had to plan routes?”

“Oh, you do, just not on the beginner course, I don’t think it’s possible to climb yourself into a hole here.”

“Easy for you to say, you have like twice as much reach as I do.”

“So? You’re lighter, and fitter! Seriously, you got this Izumi!”

Bit by bit she continued her climb, just focusing on the next step while trying not to fall. A few times she slipped, but was saved by her grip and positioning.

There were better ways to work out.

She could be using a machine, running on a treadmill, or following a workout guide. Follow her brother and force him to explain what’s going on and then do the thing with him.

The top was closer now.

Izumi felt her heart begin to race.

Exhilaration began to take hold, and she started to move quicker, every grip just a bit more certain.

Then she slipped, the wire slowing her fall as she tried and failed to get her grip back, with the only reward being banging her fingers against the side. Like Sienna, she landed on her feet. Unlike Sienna, she continued to fall downward until she was lying on her back.

“Dammit.”

Climbing a 30-foot fall rock wall was hard. But at least the matt on the ground was relatively soft.

“Have fun?” Sienna loomed over her hand on her hips.

Izumi just groaned.

“Yeah, it’s rough, but you got way further than most people get on their first try! You almost made it to the top!” Sienna sat down next to her smiling ear to ear… or at least where normal people had ears. Sienna’s cat ears were on top of her head.

“Thanks.”

“Wanna try again?”

Izumi blinked and stared at the top of the rock wall again.

“Yeah.”

She didn’t want to lose to a wall.

XXXX

Her brother was an Idiot with a capital I.

The annoying butterflies that had entered her stomach this morning on the train to U.A. were really something. It was like someone had started to tickle her stomach with a hair or something, combined with some vague fatigue from whatever Izuku had decided to do this morning besides go with her to take the U.A. entrance exam.

And now, here she was standing at the front gate as examinee after examinee entered the main hall, there were even a few other students that were just walking in as well. All of them were probably on time. So why wasn’t her brother?

Izumi let out a long sigh and ran her hand through her comb-destroying hair before stopping partway through. “I swear if he’s late I’m going to find out what happens if one of us dies.”

She even told him last night that they should go together, but no, he had to sneak off for a run or something at 5 in the fucking morning.

As if on cue, she spotted the scrawny-looking piece of broccoli that was her little brother. Seriously, how did he have a six-pack coming out of the shower but look like he couldn’t even lift a pencil in his school uniform? Was black that slimming? Did she look that scrawny in her uniform?

And why was he sweaty? Did he run here?

He stopped at the gate and walked towards him.

“Izuku,”

“Gwah!” Her little brother nearly jumped out of his giant oversized red shoes. “Izumi? What are you doing here?”

Her eye twitched ever so slightly as she let out a long sigh. “I told you I—”

“Out the way Deku!”

Oh, Katsuki was here, apparently, assholes could be heroes too.

“Ahh Kacchan! I uhh.” Izuku stepped to the side, allowing their former childhood friend to walk past without incident.

“It’s a fucking walkway,” Katsuki muttered as he passed.

Bastard had a point.

“Come on Izuku,” Izumi pulled on his arm. “We’re going to be late if you don’t hurry up.”

“But, Izumi, why are you here?”

“I told you before, didn't I? I’m going to enter the support course to help you out.” And to make their mother worry less. “Seriously, you’ve been in your own world for a year, you okay?”

“Huh? Oh, uhh, yeah, I’m fine, I uhh, I’ve just been busy with training and I uhh, didn’t really get the chance to uhh, yeah…” He stopped again, giving her a bow. “Sorry for ignoring you.”

“Knock that off, you’re going to be a hero right? So get in there and do your best!”

“Right, well uhh, I’m not so sure, I didn’t get the chance to te-study, so I’m a little worried about the—”

She pressed a finger to his forehead making him stop talking. “Don’t worry Izuku, don’t you remember our ‘quirk’? I studied enough for both of us.”

“Quirk?” Izuku blinked. “But, we don’t have a quirk?”

Izumi rolled her eyes. Why was he this dense? Up until he was twelve he more or less clung to the idea that they had some kind of a quirk like it was their lifeline. She blamed Katsuki.

“Whatever, we’ll talk about it later.” They stopped at the steps to the main building of U.A. “I gotta head to another room than you. So try to remember that if you don’t get in I’ll be in U.A. all by myself.”

She stuck her tongue out and flicked his forehead gently. “So you better get in.”

“Why do you keep treating me like I’m a little kid?”

“Because I had to tie your shoes until we got to middle school.”

“Would you stop bringing that up?”

“When you become a famous hero I’ll tell everyone about it.”

“Izumi!”

“Hurry, you’ll be late!”

XXXX

The written exam had been pretty easy, and she had no doubt that she had passed it after all the studying and extra coursework she had to do just to be able to attempt the exam.

Now for the practical.

Unlike the hero course kids who had to take buses to go to their locations, and unlike the general course kids who just got to go home she guessed, the support course had them go to some of the actual classrooms within U.A. Large square tables were placed pretty much where ever they could fit, each one big enough to hold twelve or more students, three on each side.

Each seat was numbered and had various instruments designed for measuring, recording, weighing, and creating, there was also of course pen and paper. After finding her number, Izumi stood beside her fellow examinees, waiting eagerly for the instructor to show up.

Most of the other students here were boys, and none of them looked like they really understood what a shower was, or that their hair was allergic to combs. She was even the only girl at her table.

Before long the pro-hero Power Loader came walking into the classroom, his heavy tractor-looking power suit on full display.

“Alright,” He spoke softly before he coughed and the microphone finally kicked in. “Alright, Just so we’re clear, I’m not expecting you to make anything during this exam. I am expecting you to be thorough, and demonstrate that you have the ability to understand what your role in the support course is going to be.”

A student at another table raised their hand.

“And what is our role going to be?”

“You should already know.” Power Loader disabled his mechanical arm and scratched his chin softly. “Now then, for this exam, you’ll be examining some volunteers. Most of them are new 3rd years in the hero course.”

For a moment there was a dead silence before Power Loader shrugged and headed towards the door. “Good Luck. And remember. You’re being filmed.”

The room was dead silent as they watched him leave the room before several of the examinees began talking about just anything.

“Hey, so, uhh, are you single?” One of the students asked from the other side of the table. “I mean, uhh, there’s not a lot of girls here and, well, you’re actually kind of cute looking even if your hair was a bit wild and—”

Izumi stared at him, waiting for him to shut up.

She needed a hero.

“Look, I’m just saying, if we’re going to be classmates you could maybe use someone that you can rely on, it doesn’t look like you were here with any friends and otherwise the whole class would be a giant sausage fest.”

She continued to ignore him.

“Hey, why aren’t you talking to me, I’m trying to be nice here. You know what never mind, it’s not like you’ll even be able to get in I was almost in the recommendation program! And I could have gotten in if I wasn’t kicked out by some guy named Hatsume!”

The door opened once more and several U.A. students walked in all dressed in their school uniform., the first was a bubbly girl with long blue hair who was skipping, and the second was… well her type.

And he walked right up to their table, excused himself, and stood there, looking tall, blonde, and handsome.

An awkward silence followed as many of the examinees had no idea what to do.

“What’s your name?” Izumi asked, partially for her curiosity more than anything else. “Oh, and hero name.”

“Mirio Togata!” The boy let out a big smile and looked right at her. He had really big blue eyes. “And my hero name is Lemillion!”

Izumi jotted that down on the piece of paper, the other examinees at her table, even the annoying guy, did so as well.

“Alright, and why do you call yourself that?”

“Because I want to save a million people.”

The other tables started to do the same, the one with the blue-haired girl was getting an earful.

“Alright, so it's not related to your quirk?”

“Nope!”

“What is your quirk?”

“Permeation!” Mirio shifted on his feet smiling down at her.

“So… you can phase through things?”

“Wow! You’re pretty smart!” No sooner than he said that than he snapped his hand over his mouth. “I mean uhh, yes. Sorry, I’m only allowed to—” He snapped his hand over his mouth again.

Izumi let out a laugh, a genuine laugh that normally only Sienna heard. Okay, so they were only allowed to answer questions.

Good to know.

“Alright, can you demonstrate your quirk?”

“Sure! Uhh,” Mirio looked around the table grabbed a random unattended object, and began to move it through his hand. “There we go.”

“Can you make other things Phase through things?”

“Nope! Just my body.”

Only his body. Izumi furrowed her brow as she considered the information at hand. She vaguely remembered him from the sports festival. He was blurred. So he couldn’t use clothing with his quirk. That meant that he probably didn’t have a hero costume, but they wouldn’t allow a nudist hero right?

“I’m in the second year, and I intern with Sir-Nighteye,” Mirio answered another person’s question. “Well, technically I’m in the third year now.”

“Do you have a hero costume?”

“Yes!” he spun towards her beaming.

Right. So there was something he could wear. So it probably could phase with him right?

“Is there anything that you can’t phase through?”

“If there is, I haven't found it yet.”

“What happens if you stop phasing in an object.”

“Oh, that’s tricky! I pop out with,” He flexed his muscles, and his shirt strained. Okay, so far he was taller, hotter, blonder, and just overall a much nicer person than Katsuki. “Momentum!”

He was slightly goofy though.

That was a plus.

Why did she write that down?

Crossing that out Izumi began to do what her and Izuku had done for years. Hyper analyze the shit out of a quirk.

Since he phased through everything that meant that a normal hero costume wouldn’t do. He’d need something special made out of a special material. His hair was short, but if he phased with his hair then wouldn’t it fall out? His fingernails too, she saw him move an object through them but they were made out of dead skin cells. Maybe those could be harvested and—

There was a tingle.

A tingle deep inside of her stomach that did not sit well with her. It extended downwards towards her legs and just built.

And built.

And built.

And Built.

She took a step back. The ground cracked, shattered, exploded, and so did her legs.

Izumi let out a scream of pain even as her arm began to follow through with that same tingling feeling. She flailed, slamming it against the table, and again another explosion. The table was shattered, its remains flying everywhere and causing several other students to scream in freight.

It hurt!

Everything hurt!

Before whatever could happen to her happened again, the world began to grow black around her, the pain fading from her as she began to fade in and out of consciousness.

She did wake up a few times to Mirio shouting as he held her close to his shirtless well-muscled chest. She was pretty sure he was running.

XXXX

“You didn’t think to check!?” the very distinct voice of a normally sweet older woman enraged beyond belief pierced through the veil of subconscious.

“The kid isn’t a liar when he said he was quirkless I believed him.” The sound of a not-quite-as-old man followed afterward. “Apparently they had their quirk tested when they were younger, but they didn’t have that toe bone thing.”

“Toe bone thing? What kind of quack actually uses that baseless fucking theory!” The enraged older woman has resorted to swelling the sound of her cane hitting the floor in annoyance. “Do you have any idea what percentage of twins are quirkless?”

“Shouldn’t it be about twenty? Maybe less for—”

“It’s Zero.” There was a thwack and a hiss from the old man as said cane probably bopped him in the shin. “All twins have quirks. Sometimes it’s the same, but even if they’re identical they can have different quirks. Sometimes, one has a weaker version of the same quirk, but that doesn’t mean they’re quirkless.”

“Gah,” The old man hissed, likely still rubbing his knee. “The boy did say him and his sister used to pretend they had a twin quirk where they shared pain and other things.”

“And you decided that it was a good idea to give that boy your quirk?”

“Keep it down, I—”

“Keep it down? A girl exploded in the middle of an exam. Twenty-two kids were hurt! That’s more than the goddam practical! I am so beyond keeping your secret at the moment!” The old woman slapped her cane on the floor hard and let out a long steady breath. “But fine, it’s for their own good too I suppose.”

“Thank you.”

“Thank me by teaching them to not explode when they use their quirk now! “

“The boy just needs time, He already made good progress with his body, And I—”

Another Thwack.

Izumi pushed up from the hospital bed she found herself in and saw that there was a very tiny old woman, beating a walking skeleton’s shine with a cane.

“You’re not him! That much is already clear given how you didn’t explode after getting that damned quirk.”

The gaunt-looking skeleton bounced on one foot holding his Knee.

“Uhh,” Her brother groaned from the bed beside her. “All Might?”

“Young Midoriya.” Izumi watched as the skeleton inflated like a balloon until it resembled All Might.

“Sorry, I think I failed the test. I wasn’t able to get any points I—”

“Nonsense, you did great young Midoriya! You even exceeded my expectations! I’m certain you’ll pass based on your heroics alone! The way you leaped to save that girl sacrificing your own safety was PLUS ULTRA!” All Might flexed.

Izumi attempted to say something, but the only thing that came out of her open mouth was silence as she slowly processed what exactly was happening. First of all, she was in the hospital, probably at U.A., and second, All Might was just talking to her brother and being proud of him for making his legs and arm explode.

The doctor, who she was now starting to recognize as Recovery Girl waddled over to her and gave a long sigh. “Please tell me you’re sensible?”

“More than my brother.” Izumi half muttered and touched her forehead. “What exactly happened to me.”

“Well, after you destroyed a classroom, the students in there managed to save a lot of the children, and that boy Mirio brought you all the way to me since you were in critical condition.” Recovery Girl gave a long sigh. “It was a good thing he did, it appears that my quirk has diminished effects over whatever link you and your brother share.”

“Okay,” Izumi blinked slowly and looked towards her star-struck brother. “And I suppose that me exploding had something to do with them?”

“I’ll let them explain things, but make sure you rest up, my quirk heals by draining your energy.” Recovery Girl handed her a couple of gummies. “Eat up, they’ll help, can’t say about the headache you’re going to be spending the rest of your life with but eh.”

Izumi nodded and gulped down the gummies.

“Wait,” Izuku finally tore his eyes off of All Might and looked towards Izumi. “Izumi? What are you doing here?”

“My arm and legs exploded in the middle of my exam.” She narrowed her eyes at him. “Sound familiar.”

“Huh? But, I. How?” Izuku looked like his entire world was being flipped by All Might in a bar fight, in that that thing was going into orbit. “But, that, we, we were just playing, we never had a quirk.”

“No, you just let everyone else gaslight you into thinking that. Probably mostly Kacchan, But we’ve always had that bond, you idiot.”

“But we tried so many things!”

“I don’t know maybe it’s gotten stronger? All I know is that when you started to work out I got the results so I decided to train and study to help you out!”

“Izumi!”

“Why are you crying? I’m your sister I’m supposed to support you!”

“But!”

“Stop crying and explain why my legs exploded.” Seriously. She wanted to avoid hurting people again if at all possible. “Do I have to like, just be aware of this from now on?”

“Oh, umm, well I.” Izuku looked at her, then at Recovery Girl, then at All Might.

“Recovery Girl already knows kid, and your sister’s already a part of this so she has a right to know.” All Might deflated back into his scrawnier self and looked towards Izumi. “Sorry for the trouble, but could you please keep what he’s about to say a secret?”

“Sure!” She wasn’t going to say no to All Might. Wait. Was All Might the reason why she had a thing for Muscular Blonde-Haired Men? She chose not to think about that too much. “Just please explain everything.”

Izuku did his best. He covered most topics like how he met All Might to the training, to the fact that he now had All Might’s quirk being transferable, he went into a lot of detail about eating a hair, bumping into a cute brown haired girl that he talked to, which knowing him, he probably actually didn’t, only to end up seeing that brown haired girl trapped during the exam and then exploding his limbs by clenching his buttocks and punching a giant zero point robot. Only in far too many words for anyone that wasn’t fluent in Izuku speak to understand.

“Okay, I think I understand,” Izumi said slowly, barely understanding anything about it beyond the fact that All Might had given Izuku his quirk and that their quirk had also given it to her. She had no idea if it was replicated or if they were just sharing it. “But I have a few more questions.”

Apparently, All Might just used the quirk fine when he first got it and didn’t have to deal with broken bones that weren’t earned through fights.

From there things went smoothly. She was allowed to retake the support course exam, and both Izuku and her passed. Together they worked out several of the kinks of their new quirk, such as how to not break their own bones, or cause too much pain to each other, in large part thanks to the increased control over her own body she got due to rock climbing.

By the time of the sports festival she was expected to transfer into the heroics course, and did so, joining Izuku’s class of 1-A.

At some point, Katsuki confessed to having a crush on her.

She laughed.

Eventually, they saved the world, and she ended up marrying Mirio and answering the question of what the hell would happen to Izuku if she got pregnant.

Notes:

I hope you all enjoyed this short story! I really don't want to continue it beyond this point though as it would more or less be "Canon Events x2."
