‘Spending xmas alone’
The message pings early enough that Elle finds it before she has to work, her eyes soften even as she frowns at her phone. Clara had always been somewhat dear to her, so to know the woman will be alone hurts. She too is facing the idea of spending Christmas alone, she doesn’t really want to of course but she’s not been sure anyone else would even want to see her. She’s still frowning at her phone when she reaches work, setting it aside to take up the case she’s overseeing as a private detective, promising herself she’ll work out what she wants later.
She comes home that night tired and sore and finally, after cleaning herself off, answers the text. She won’t let Clara spend Christmas alone. Near death after taking down her target was enough to push her to risk telling Clara how she felt, once and for all.
‘Come to me instead, we can be alone together.’
