Chapter 1: What Once Was

Chapter Text

The void

Pitch black and endless, anyone or anything inside is left to float in its darkness. Nothing could escape its grasp and where light could never enter. Dream stared at nothing but black, his body numb, and mind clear.

He remembered what had happened, watching as Techno walked back from fighting Quackity. The hybrid was clutching one of his sides, possibly from a wound. He knew Techno would win but it still scared him that he wouldn’t.

Only a few times did he remember when the hybrid was near death. How he had escaped death he had no idea.

When Dream saw Techno’s form, he was ecstatic, Techno had won, and he would be alright. That was until a shadowy figure behind the hybrid caught his attention.

Quackity was slowly nearing him, axe by his side ready to strike. The duck hybrid had a wicked expression on his face, the swirls once encasing his form were now long gone. He was adamant in slaying Techno to cause Dream more pain.

In that moment memories flooded him, of him and Techno as kids. Fighting with wooden swords as kids for fun, joining him on his adventures along with Phil. The avian hybrid happily chatted away as to how he met the piglin.

Spending time in their home when his mother left on her adventures. Sleeping in a bed across from his friend in a single room. The avian sleeping in another across from theirs. Enjoying meals that said avian made, a difference from when his mother came to visit him.

Training with both Piglin and avian hybrid to further increase his combat skills. The thrill he received from the spars was something he could never get from anyone else. Sitting beside a campfire as said avian wrapped his injuries from their spar apologizing as he tightened one bandage a tad too much.

Before eventually a trio became a duo

He then met Sapnap and George along with Bad, where they would chase after the blonde in their Manhunts. A thrill Dream enjoyed, watching as their faces fell to horror when he led them into one of his many traps. Out of the many times they did these hunts, Dream would win the most. Eventually, they would create their own server, inviting their friends to play with them. Enjoying the fun they would have and meeting new people

He was ecstatic when Phil and Techno joined. Reuniting with his old Family

Family

Yeah, there were his Family one that would stick with him

Until suddenly everything fell apart

Governments were created, causing people to choose sides and ruining the peaceful era of his home

His world

Fights broke out between people over simple things, more land, more power, more everything.

It hurt Dream to see his world suffering for he could feel it as well. The burning of the leaves and wood when a fire was lit, the impact of TNT onto the land. The remaining effect of splashed potions staining once pristine green grass to a horrendous murky green. The soil losing its lustrous nutrients to the effects.

Most importantly he could feel when his world called to him, to stop the pain. He sobbed because he could do nothing to ease its cries. Only doing what he could to prevent the fighting to no avail.

His once happy, caring persona was replaced by a cruel, unforgiving person desperately trying to bring what once was.

A Peaceful Land

His last resort was Pandora, an obsidian structure he commissioned Sam to make. It was a prison of sorts to hold activities for a prisoner and a rehabilitation area where trees, flowers, and grass grew. A single window that showcased the sky above. Pandora was never meant to cause harm.

Dream knew that yet he never saw the beauty of the enclosed forest. He was trapped in an obsidian room with nothing but a chest, cauldron, and books as his company. A wall of lava preventing him from escaping and his only heat.

He felt so drained of everything and so alone, god he missed Techno. The only one who understood his pain, crying to him in seclusion of how everything was too much. Yet the piglin could only give him gentle reassurances that everything would go back to normal.

He couldn’t ruin the plan with such thoughts. He needed to follow through to finally bring peace to his server. One obstacle he had not counted on was Tommy arriving and ruining everything like always. Reviving the teen had caused Quackity to appear and ask for the revival book, an item he intended to keep from the hybrid.

How could he have prepared for the pain to come when he refused to do so? The endless hours of torture to be left with open wounds that spilled his own blood. His body aching from the pain yet refusing to give the hybrid what he desired. Days turned into weeks and then into months of brutal pain that he had to endure. He could do nothing during those painful months, he was defenseless against someone who possessed weapons.

Why had Sam allowed Quackity but no one else?

The only other person he saw was Bad but even then the demon was different. His kind eyes were replaced with something else, something he couldn’t pin. He would be the last kind soul to enter the structure

God, how he wished for the pain to stop. It was too much for his body, for it could no longer heal what was broken beyond repair. Therefore his body refused to accept any more healing potions from Sam for all it wanted was to rest.

To be at ease

His server could do nothing to protect him from such a fate, its last resort was to restart the world to a time where everything had calmed for a fraction. Sealing away his memories except for those it deemed worthy

Everything was to be peaceful again but it could not last for it was never meant to.

Techno was his friend through thick and thin and he would never let any harm come to the man. His body and mind ignored Philza’s scream as he ran towards his friend brother. Just when he was within arms reach, he pulled Techno by his cape causing the hybrid to fall and Dream to take the attack.

God his body hurt remembering the amount of pain but in that moment all he cared was that Techno was safe. He remembered as Techno caught him, holding him to his chest ignoring the blood that stained his already-soaked shirt. As his life slowly faded he prayed to whatever god would listen to erase his home, his server to create a new one.

One with Philza as the new admin and where no one but him would remember Dream. After all he was the one that had caused the downfall of his home, therefore if he wasn’t there it would not happen again.

Warmth was the last thing he felt before he opened his eyes again to be met with Phil. His cerulean blue eyes looked at him with sadness

“Dream… Are you sure this is what you want” Questioned the avian

“Yes,” he stated “I want you to bring everyone to this new server even if I am not a part of it…. Just promise me a couple things”

The winged hybrid tried his best to not let his tears fall only nodding his head for Dream to continue

“Don’t… Don’t tell anyone who I am if they ask… Promise me you won’t let what happened on my server happen on this one…” Dream couldn’t stop as tears flowed from his eyes, he tried tirelessly to rub them away to no avail

“And take care of Techno for me okay? The idiot always finds a way to get himself in trouble” chuckled Dream

Phil let a small smile grace his face, nodding at the request

“Alright mate, from one admin to another I promise”

And with that reassurance, Dream retreated to the void as Phil was sent to the new world. He never once noticed his childlike self escape his grasp. For he no longer felt he would ever regain such a thing
