“Charles, je ne m’attendais pas à te voir si tôt?” [Charles, i didn't expect to see you so soon?]
“Matin maman, je peux demander quelque chose?” [Morning mum, can I ask something?] Charles was nervous, playing with her hair with her fingers
She wanted to do this for a long time, she just never had enough confidence to ask, but she decided today.
“Vas-y chérie” [Go ahead darling] Pascale was concerned, looking at her daughter.
“Maman, ça faisait un moment que je voulais essayer quelque chose…” [Mum, i’ve been wanting to try something for a while] she paused “Pouvons-nous essayer un tout nouveau style de coupe de cheveux, peut-être beaucoup plus court?” [Can we try a whole new haircut style, maybe much shorter?]
“Bien sûr, nous pouvons essayer cela si vous le souhaitez” [Of course we can try that if you like] a soft smile appeared on her mother’s face
“ Viens t’asseoir si tu veux le faire” [Come sit down if you want to do it.] She lifts the cape off of the chair for Charles to sit.
After she sat down and the cape was on, her mum took her hair down from where it was tied up, when it was out it was just past her shoulders
“Alors comment tu le veux?” [So how do you want it?] Charles looks down, scared and somewhat embarrassed
“Comme les cheveux d’Arthur…” [Like Arthur’s hair…] she said quietly
“C’est définitivement un changement mais faisons-le chérie” [It’s definitely a change but lets do it darling] Her mum started cutting her hair, she sectioned it off and cut it similar to her younger brother’s hair.
Around an hour later she was finally done, Charles hadn't been looking in the mirror
“Charles” Her mother had said “tu peux regarder tes cheveux maintenant” [ you can look at your hair now]
She looked up, her hair majorly shorter than when she first came into her mother’s salon
“Merci maman, c’est fantastique” [Thank you mum, it’s fantastic] She stood up and hugged her mum, she kissed her cheek “Au revoir maman, merci” [Goodbye mum, thank you]
She put on a hoodie to hide her hair to get to her car and drove back to her apartment, she was excited to show him.
