‘So,’ he said, finally glancing up. ‘What’s your price?’
‘Nothing too much,’ she said lightly, taking the ends of her long hair between her fingers. ‘Only your first-born child.’
‘Alright.’
‘Wonderful!’ She clapped her dainty hands with glee. ‘Then I look forward to collecting my payment from you, mortal man.’
He shifted, tucking the mask gently into the satchel by his feet before unbuckling his sword from his side and dropping it on the forest floor.
‘What are you doing?’ The fae asked, inquisitive. Usually at the end of a contract, the humans skip away with their prize and happily forget about the payment until it was too late.
Simon glanced up as he unclasped his cloak. ‘Makin’ the payment.’
‘Pardon?’
‘You want my first-born, so ’m going to give it to you.’ His hand shifted up until he clasped her chin and brought his face close. ‘And jus’ so you know what to scream, m’ name’s Simon.’
