Work Text:

-Oda, I need advice. Right now it’s embarrassingly urgent-

He asks slightly annoyed to find his partner in bed with another creature. Chuuya? Cheating on him? It was terrible! How could his loyal dog do something like that? Dogs are supposed to be the most loyal of all creatures but here he is watching Chuuya cuddle with that thing.

Stupid Mori, sending him on an out of country mission leaving Chuuya here alone. Ready for anyone to come in and sweep him off his tiny feet. And he’s a slug; he doesn't have the brain to figure out if someone is lying to him and tricking him to fall for their schemes.

-Dazai, are you okay? Are you hurt?  Do you need me and Ango to come over to help you?-

-What happened, I thought you just got home from the mission, didn’t you? Did something happen to Chuuya?-

Oda rapidly questions over the phone a curious and hurried nature ready to come and find him if need be.  Dazai of course finds this funny, especially the realization that he probably has a list of different medical practices in his head. Just in case he ever has to use it to save Dazai, Ango and maybe even one day Chuuya.

-It’s Chuuya! The stupid loyal dog he’s supposed to be, has brought home a flea infested thing  and is sleeping with it! In our bed! The one I forced Chuuya to buy!-

He cries to Oda, careful not to draw attention from Chuuya. The other boy's head was resting on a pillow, eyes gently closed, arms wrapped around the stupid things body!

This shocks the man on the other end of the phone, Chuuya is known for his loyalty. He could never imagine Chuuya cheating on his partner. Too invested and emotionally dependent on each other.

-Dazai, please be serious. Is Chuuya sleeping with another human being? Are they naked? Are they awake? Do you need confort?-

Oda asks, still keeping in mind Dazai is a dramatic possessive teenager. Though he never admits his possessiveness only showing it through his actions. And how him and Chuuya are always attached to the other.

-No Oda it’s worse, he’s sleeping with a stupid stray dog. The probably has fleas and infections and he’s going to get my tingly Chibi sick.-

Oda sighs a breath of relief, though Dazai would probably be wreaking havoc if he found out Chuuya was cheating. Or if Chuuya had a friend who was too close. He shudders remembering the poor new recruit that was tortured to death because he asked Chuuya out.

-Dazai, you do realize Chuuya is his own person she can choose if he wants animals. And please don’t overreact this isn’t anything bad he probably doing him on the street.-

Oda tries to explain to the obviously jealous teenager, who at the moment was throwing a fit. He really felt bad for the ginger teen who had to deal with this on a daily basis.

-But he’s my dog! He’s not allowed to have a dog himself! Dogs can’t take care of dogs, it's common sense!-

He wines, wishes that Oda would just understand his stance. It’s reasonable of course it is? How could he be wrong he’s a fucking genius for gods sake.

-Dazai, I would leave Nakahara alo-

Dazai hangs up not caring as to what Oda tells him, he’ll apologize of course. But right now he needs to make his dog understand who he needs to be loyal to.

He moves quietly into Chuuya’s bedroom, looking at the small redhead who’s sleeping. Hair thrown over the pillow spread out and tangled.

He’s lying on his side, his face pressed against the pillow with his eyes shut softly. Soft breathes and huffs coming out of his mouth, while the dog has heavy breathing loud and annoying.

Although Chuuya was just like a dog, he shouldn’t like  the same species as him. He doesn’t understand, Dogs have fleas and drool way too much and are just plain gross, why would anyone like them?

The first Narnia movie is playing in the background, a soft white noise for the sleeping boy. Moving towards the awake dog, he’s surprised to feel that the fur is soft. A light brown color with a long white patch from his stomach to the top of their head.

A large white patch in his chest area, the dog was extremely large, half of his body laying on the defenseless Chibi.  Large eyes open wide, looking at him in a victorious manner bragging that he gets the Chibi to himself.

He moves to grab his neck only to find a collar carefully snug around the dog's neck. Looking at the name tag on the dog's neck, and to his surprise and only fueling his anger.

Written in bold is the name Mackerel

Dragging the dog down off the bed, he leaves him on the ground. Ready to deal with the disgusting mutt when he wakes up in the morning.

Moving under the soft limp arms of the small redhead, letting the older grip onto him. Running his hands through the tangled mess of ginger locks. He watches as Chuuya breathes obviously more contempt cuddling with him then the stupid dog.

It’d been a nice few days, especially since Dazai has been gone not able to bother him. On the night Dazai left he had found Mackerel in a dumpster with a broken leg. Feeling pity for the small creature he takes him in, nursing him back to health. Washing the fur making sure to brush any knots out, in the past week he was also able to feed the dog good food.

Those factors contributed to the flowing of the dogs fur,

right now though it didn’t feel like he was cuddling Mackerel. There was no soft fur, only rough bandages and warm skin contact. Waking up he doesn’t feel the normal pulsing in his head, no Arahbaki screaming in his head.

And warm skin soothing against his skin, opening his eyes as the sun blared into his eyes. The blinds are not keeping most of the sun out, the warm streams of light brightening up the room.

He tries to move to see the alarm clock, but two lanky arms are keeping him from moving. He finally pulls himself out of the arms, kicking him and poking his arms until he lets go. Turning over to the other side and quietly snoring, not waking up even with the noise and light.

He sits up reading the beeping alarm clock, 6:23, confused he looks over to the other teen laying beside him. Confused he looks on the floor, and around noticing Mackerel laying on the rug under the bed.

Whimpering slightly once he notices Chuuya looking at him, his fur sticking up on one side due to doggy bed hair. He pats right beside himself moving over to allow the dog to have a bit more space.

He pushes the blankets to his feet allowing Dazai to keep his side of the blankets. Leaving an empty space for the dog to lay just like he was before Dazai climbed into bed.

Mackerel hops up right beside him, cuddling up and snuggling him. Curling up into a ball, as he slips a blanket over the two of them, leaving Dazai to himself.

Closing his eyes he buries his head into Mackerel fur, running his hand through the brown hair. Scratching behind the dog's ears, closing his eyes and listening to the birds chirping around. Letting his head grow light as he falls back to a dreamless sleep.

Cold is the first thing he feels, pushing himself up on creaky limbs. Realizing no one else is around him, not even the tiny redhead with a consolation  of freckles on his face. The soft hair on his neck not under his chin, cold feet pressed against his lower legs.

Sitting up he turns, realizing that it’s heavier on one side. Chuuya is surprisingly lighter than him, through years of not eating. But the bed is dipped on Chuuya’s side with a huge pile of blankets on top of him.

Then he sees him , the flea ridden pest, weighing down the bed. It’s shoving its disgusting body all over, the Chibis tiny body.

Chuuyas soft hair is spread out over the pillows, he moves closer to the two of them. Trying to pull Chuuya away from the dog, he doesn’t move though. Tightly gripping the mutt in his arms, digging his face further in.

Helpfully he wedges himself between Chuuya and the dog, separating the two of them. And squishing him, pulling him closer  to his body, warning his body up slightly.

He can’t fall asleep so he just admires the smaller teens body. Tracing up and down his bare thighs, and then moving up to his chest. Sliding his hands up and down his sides causing the teen to shudder and cling to himself more.

Brushing his hair, combing through all the knots, making sure the silky locks look good. Brushing his fingers along the Chibis pale pink cheeks. Cupping Chuuya’s  jaw in his bony fingers and placing delicate kisses onto the Chibis face.

Chuuya shifts a lot, flipping and turning in Dazai’s arms, not quite comfortable. Even though Dazai’s arms had gone to sleep he still tries to hold Chuuya tight. Watching as Chuuya’s face scrunches up in confusion and annoyance.

Before his eyes crack open squinting at him as he turns his head in confusion. Fog covering up his beautiful colored eyes, a hazel brown one and azure blue one.

“ ‘zai?” He slurs out questioningly looking up at him, before he pulls himself out of Dazai’s arm cage. Looking around probably for the stupid mutt that he brought in.

“Chibi, you're awake! Finally my arms are dead!” But Chuuya isn’t paying any kind of attention to his whining. Instead confusion crosses his face when he doesn’t see his dog anywhere near him.

“Dazai? Where’s Mackerel we’re cuddling on the bed earlier but he isn’t here anymore.” Chuuya asks, looking at him with a sad look painted across his face and Dazai kinda feels bad. Although the dog may be sick and then get him sick, why would Chuuya want to get him sick?

“Why weren’t you cuddling with me? I was right here!” The younger teen whines flopping back down onto the bed. Spreading his arms like a star, grabbing Chuuya and pulling him down.

Forcing the smaller teen into an awkward embrace, pinning Chuuya in his arms. “Dazai let me go. I need to find Mackerel and feed him since it’s morning.” Chuuya says as he struggles to get up. Trying to twist out of Dazai’s grasp causing the younger to squeeze harder.

“No! I’ve been gone for two days on a mission and you're replacing me with a dog! Ugly disgusting creature, and you give us the same name! Chuuya’s my dog, he can't have a dog of his own!” Dazai whines shaking Chuuya slightly,  as Chuuya laughs for gods sake.

“You’re really being possessive over a dog? Really Dazai, the demon prodigy is over here getting jealous over a dog!” Chuuya finally pulls out of the hug, sitting slightly back on his knees.

Chuuya looked absolutely beautiful, sunlight gracefully making his hair shimmer with different shades of orange and yellow coming out. His eyes crinkling slightly at the edges as he closes them. His smile large and happy so fucking alive and different from him.

He moves though, getting out of that position dreadfully, and moving down the hall. His laughter is still heard as it echoes around the halls soft but loud a sweet melody.

Dazai quickly gets up rushing after the smaller teen, “Chuuyas getting full of himself, I would never be jealous of a dumb dog. And you're just a dog, who would want to be jealous of anyone with you!” He yells with a moment of silence before another burst of giggles from Chuuya.

He moves his way to the kitchen seeing Chuuya scoop out food. The god damn dog looks so smug and self satisfied as he waits for his food. Finally the food is given to the dog as Chuuya prepares him and Dazai’s breakfast.

“Awww aren’t you the best, you need to eat sweetheart so you can grow big.” Chuuya coos at the dog rubbing behind his ears and scratching his back. A huge Dopey grin on both of their faces one more hideous than the other.

“Chuuya! Stop paying attention to that stupid mutt! You're gonna burn our breakfast and I’m gonna starve. And die lonely cause you're too focused on that stupid dog!” Dazai practically throws himself on Chuuya, knocking him over.

Groaning under the weight of Dazai, Chuuya looks up at him really unimpressed. The eggs have gone flying due to the tackle leaving an unimpressed look on Chuuya’s face.

“Dazai, there goes our breakfast! No Mackerel don’t eat that please I don’t think eggs are good for you! I have better food eat that instead I don’t want you to get sick. Dazai get off of me!” Chuuya yells trying to stop the dog from eating the eggs.

He squirms trying to get out of Dazai’s arms, gripping and digging his nails into Dazai’s arm. Though they don’t get too deep due to the thick bandages wrapped around his arms.

Suddenly he stands pulling Chuuya up with him, as Mackerel waits looking at them confused. As he had stopped his feast on the flimsy piece of food instead looking at Chuuya.

“Good Bo-“ Chuuya starts cut off by a startled yelp as he’s basically thrown like a rag doll over Dazai’s shoulder. The sharp piece of bone digging into the exposed skin of his stomach.

Being carried makes him feel light, not in a body weight type of way but Instead. He feels out of it, not really in the present or looking through someone else’s eyes. A thick fog clouding his mind making everything numb and confusing.

He does realize through the walls, they’re heading towards his bedroom to do god knows what. Dazai having a sly smirk set on his face rich confidence driven into his bones.

Being thrown onto the light feathery mattress is far different from what he’s used to. But he can’t enjoy the new found freedom of having his limbs free before Dazai falls down fast and hard. Landing right on top of him, crushing what he thinks are bones and thick tissue.

“Dazai, you fuckhing waste of bandages get off of me!!” He screams trying to push the lanky teen off of him, as Mackerel comes hoping in. A big goofy grin on his face but  he skitters to a stop seeing Dazai.

Dazai has a piercing glare on his face, looking upon the happy dog with disgust. Glaring so intently and with the promise of murder and torture. Which Chuuya repermands with a slap to his arm pushing him aside.

And sitting up allowing the Mackerel to jump up onto his lap, rubbing the back of the small dog's ears. Kissing the tip of the dog's pink nose, giving a small smile to the dog leaving Dazai alone and without any attention.

“Get off you damn mutt!” Dazai snaps yelling at the dog, this ends up scaring Chuuya. He slightly jumps, not used to Dazai yelling or even snapping. Dazai was the calm and composed one, Chuuya got angry, Dazai did too just silently. Scheming in his stupid head he would think up plans to get revenge.

The wave of anger, evidently scares Mackerel as well as the dog hopes off the bed. Skittish as Ma jumps out of the room, a small whine falling from the dog's mouth. He moves to glare at Dazai ready to get out and run after Mackerel but Dazai stops him.

“Chuuya the dog will be fine, stay here!” The younger teen whines going back to his usual childish self.

“No, Osamu, you just yelled at Mackerel for no reason!  He’s a stray I picked off the streets, and guess what! He’s doing better now that he’s with me! So I will not let you treat him like shit.” With this annoying rant Chuuya storms off in a huff, while Dazai sits dazed as the new information hits him. He can feel tears brimming at the edges of his eyes, slowly falling despite his best effort.

So this is why Chuuya is so fond of the dog? Because the mutt's backstory is like his own? A stray abandoned by its only family, left to fend for themselves.

The dog is a disease, a pest that leeches off of Chuuya, using his kind nature for his own gain. He’s using Chuuya’s money for food and entertainment! What is he giving Dazai’s silly Chibi? Nothing!

He needs to get Chuuya to see how monstrous this dog is! So that he can be the only one allowed to leech off the Chibi and use him for his own gain.

“ ‘zai?” Chuuya pokes his head into the room, his cheeks were slightly pink with either embarrassment or from the slight tears that tracked down his face.

“Yes, Chibi? If you don’t mind, I would like to be left alone for a while. I don’t personally like being yelled at for something that isn’t my fault.”  He tries to make it sound as awful as possible, twisting it in his own favor.

It’s working. He knows it is by the look on Chuuya’s face. His eyes slightly glazed over, his shoulders  sagging slightly. The dog in his hands is squirming and looking up at Chuuya.

Before looking back at Dazai with a scared look mixed slightly with protectiveness. Why was he so damn protective of Chuuya? It’s so annoying ruining his plans.

“I'm sorry, Dazai. I didn’t mean to yell at you, well I did, you were being an asshole.  But I didn’t mean to hurt you, I’m sorry.” Chuuya whispers quietly, and Dazai pretends to think for a moment, not letting anything slip through his facade of hurt and pain.

Chuuya just stands there looking uncomfortable before putting down the dog. Striding over and sitting beside Dazai curling in on himself. It hurts seeing Chuuya like this so unsure of himself, that’s not the Chuuya he knows. Dazai loves likes the Chuuya who threatened to throw him out a window.

The human Chuuya, full of too many emotions that make Dazai slightly amazed. The one that feels everything and is not afraid to show it. Chuuya is supposed to be fearless, not like this.

“It’s whatever!” He chirps happily moving his arms to wrap around Chuuya. Pulling him down into the bed and pushing his face into Chuuya’s neck.

“You bastard! I thought you were actually hurt.” Chuuya shrieks, punching and hitting his back. As he laughs above him, smiling wide as the dog looks upon the two teenagers extremely confused.

“I am Chuuya! My feelings were extremely hurt because you picked a stupid dog over me!” He whines pulling his face out of the warm crevice, to playfully look sad to the older teen.

“You can deal with hurt feelings, you over possessive bandage wasting machine!”Chuuya yells pushing Dazai off to cuddle with the dog on the floor.

“And of course I’d pick a Mackerel over you, he doesn’t whine or scream or play stupid pranks on me!” Chuuya admits running his hands through the soft fur of the dog. While the mutt barks happily at the praise giving Dazai a stupid smile.

“I’m gonna skin it, and maybe cook it, definitely make its last seconds of life torturous.” He schemes, looking at the dog with pure anger.

“No no no, you will not touch a hair on Mackerels body or I will kill you. Do you hear me shitty Dazai?” Chuuya threatens even though it falls on deaf ears. Dazai is too focused thinking of the right ways to kill the animal he doesn’t hear the petty threats.

“Besides it’s not like you can kill everyone I’ve cuddled with you stupid bastard.” This statement by Chuuya grabs his attention, who was stupid enough to sleep with His dog?

“Who would want to sleep with an ugly Chibi like you?” He asks, trying to keep his voice level, this doesn’t work as well as he believes since Chuuya bursts out in laughter.

“Don’t worry shit head, other than you I’ve only slept in the same vicinity as the Flags, your new mentee  Akutagawa, and Tachihara on that one mission. Oh and me and the sheep used to sleep close during the winter to help keep warm!” Chuuya states as he rubs the dog letting him climb into his lap.

“Chuuya! You’ve cheated on me with so many people! How could I ever forgive you! Maybe if you agree to never speak to them again and let me do whatever punishment I feel right then I’ll consider forgiving you!” He states happily waiting for Chuuya’s lovely confession on how he agrees and might even just stay Dazai’s personal dog forever!

This fantasy is slowly ruined by Chuuya when the silly little Chibi. Laughs. At him! Calling him possessive and his idea Stupid!

“I am not possessive, what could I be possessive of? You're too short, you barely pass as a person, you're more of a slug!” He calls denying the false allegations against him, truly how did he fall in love with an idiot?

Chuuya thinks he’s possessive over him? The stupid Chibi just doesn’t know we’re to put his loyalties and Dazai is helping him with it.

“Deny it all you want, stupid mummy! But you have to accept the dogs staying!” Chuuya blurts out as the dog barks in agreement ruining the sweet moment he and Chuuya were having.

“Fine, fine, it can stay as long as it knows that it’s number two on your favorites list!” This gets him an unamused look from Chuuya.

“Really so who’s number one?” Chuuya asks even though it’s clearly obvious.

“Me of course!” Dazai chirps happily, swinging his feet and grinning like a maniac.

“I call bullshit! You're a damn leech, why would anyone like you?” Chuuya yells looking furious at the accusations that he might find Dazai not totally annoying.

“Chuuya stop being silly, we all know you love me!” Dazai cheers dodging the flying object that’s supposed to be coming for his face. “Don’t do that you silly dog! You should hurt your master!”

“Shut up you bastard! I’m not a fucking dog!”

This is the reason the flags are dead, sheep have been dispersed, Akutagawa has enough trauma to make a therapist faint and Tachihara stays away from dating or interacting with gingers.

Notes:

You’ve finished what a surprise! Take care of yourself and keep safe and definitely don’t die! You weren’t supposed to read this I told you not to! You know who you are.
