And it is good storytelling after all, because when he looks at the sleeve of his jacket, he sees a wet patch. Exactly like Sirius’s jacket would have looked if he cried when he ran away. He didn’t cry for his brother abandoning him, but he grips the table and sobs, because he is a grown man, and he has never once in his life had a blueberry muffin. The tears make the sleeve of his jacket shiny and almost black, and he stares down the stupid pastry like he wants it to disappear under his gaze.

this fic is basically about reg learning what it feels like to live and want. very self-indulgent and therapeutic. non-linear healing, shitty past relationships, working on your heart until it's good enough to let people in, mending past mistakes and learning to be angry - all the good stuff. please mind the notes at the top of the chapters for tw's!
