Lily is getting ready to give Liam his bath. She fills up the tub with warm water. She goes to Liam’s room and finds him playing with his toys.
"Hey sweetie, it’s bath time."
"I don’t want a bath, Sissy. I want to play."
"I know you’re having fun, but taking a bath is important. It helps you stay clean and healthy. Plus, it’s part of your bedtime routine."
Liam sighed. "Okay."
"Thank you for listening."
They walk to the bathroom. Liam takes off his clothes and puts them in the hamper.
"Do you need to pee pee, bud?"
"No Sissy."
"You don’t want to try? You always go pee pee before taking your bath."
"I don’t need to pee pee, Sissy. Promise."
Lily was hesitant but decided to let it go. "Alright then."
Liam steps into the tub and sits down, giving a content sigh.
"Nice and warm?" Lily asks.
"Mhm."
"Good."
Liam cleans himself and talks to Lily about his day. "I made a new friend at school today, Sissy."
"Really, Liam? That’s amazing!" She knew how shy her brother could be, so making a friend was huge.
"His name is Jake, and he likes watching Disney movies, just like me."
"That sounds fun. Maybe you can invite him over here to watch Wish."
Liam’s face lit up. "That sounds great, Sissy!" He said, splashing the water.
Lily laughed at her adorable brother. "Let’s try to keep the water in the tub, honey."
Liam starts to notice a feeling in his bladder. Uh oh. I need to go pee pee now. However, Liam didn’t speak up and tell Lily. He was always so embarrassed to tell her when he needed the potty. On top of that, he just told her he didn’t need to go and he doesn’t want Lily to think he lied to her. Obviously, he didn’t lie. The pee feeling just came on as he sat in the warm water. But still, he didn’t want to get into trouble for not trying to go earlier. I can hold it until my bath is over.
Lily heard the house phone ring. "I’ll be right back, Liam. You stay right here." Lily left the bathroom.
Liam took his opportunity to hold his privates. Oh no! The pee feeling is getting stronger. Ooooo. I really need to go. He debates getting out and using the toilet, but the last time he did that, he slipped and fell. Lily has told him that if he wants to get out of the tub, call for her, and she will make sure he’s safe. Liam couldn’t call for Lily now. She was on the phone. He was still afraid of getting in trouble, but he couldn’t hold on much longer.
2 minutes later, it happens. Liam looks down at his crotch as the pee starts to come out. Oh no. I’m going potty. His pee continues to pour out of him, turning the water more and more yellow. Sissy is going to be so mad.
Finally, his stream stops, and he lets out a sigh of relief. He’s happy his bladder is empty, but he’s so afraid for Lily to see the mess he made. I did so much pee pee, and none of it went in the potty.
Lily comes back to the bathroom. "Alright sweetie, you ready to get out?" She steps closer to the tub and sees the yellow water and Liam sitting in it, looking nervous.
"What happened, buddy?"
"I did pee pee."
Lily took a minute to compose herself. She knew how sensitive her brother was, so she needed to choose her words carefully. "It’s okay, bud."
Liam blinked and looked confused. "It is?"
"Mhm", Lily said, draining the water. "Let’s get you out."
Liam stood up and held Lily’s hands as he stepped out of the tub. He wraps himself in his towel.
"Do you still need to go?"
"No."
"Okay, we need to get a new bath started for you. You need to get cleaned again."
Lily turns the water on. While it’s filling, she turns to Liam.
"Sweetie, where do we go pee pee?"
"In the potty."
"Very good. So why did you pee pee in the tub?"
"I couldn’t hold it."
"Liam, when you need to go potty, you need to tell Sissy. You don’t need to hold it."
"I thought you would be mad because I didn’t go potty before my bath."
"Not at all, Liam. Sometimes, the potty feeling comes unexpectedly. I understand that. What’s important is that you tell me when you need to go. I will never be mad at you for needing to go potty."
Liam gives Lily a hug. "I love you, Sissy."
"I love you too, Liam." They pull apart.
"I’m sorry for having an accident, Lily."
"No worries, sweetie. I promise. Do you understand now why it’s always important to try and have a pee? Even if you feel like you don’t have to go?"
"Yes, Sissy."
Lily sees the tub is filled and shuts off the faucet. "Ready for round 2?"
Liam giggles and nods, getting back into the tub. This time with no accidents.
