Chapter 1
Sabine woke up feeling warm, comfortable, content and safe wrapped in Ezra’s arms, she could feel the slight rise and fall of his bare chest against her bare back. She hummed happily and snuggled further into his hold; Ezra stirred softly and tightened his arms around her.
“Morning.” He said, voice hoarse from his sleep, then, he buried his face on the back of her neck and placed a few kisses on the curve where her shoulder and neck met.
Sabine sighed happily and relaxed against her pillow. “Morning.” She said.
Ezra pulled her closer to him leaving no space between their bodies and trailed his lips down the side of her neck.
Sabine loved mornings like this; she loved to wake up wrapped in Ezra’s arms especially after a long night of lovemaking because it made her feel special. They usually stayed in bed until late in the morning - or until their stomachs made them aware that they still hadn’t had breakfast - just kissing, cuddling, and whispering things to each other.
The young woman sighed happily but unfortunately, her stomach started to growl making her aware that it was time for breakfast; she groaned internally and tried to extract herself from Ezra’s embrace, however, he pulled her back to him, holding her closer.
“Ez!” She squealed. “What are you doing?” She asked.
“Preventing you from leaving this bed.” He said with a smile.
Sabine laughed. “You’re impossible, Ezra Bridger.” She said.
“I can’t help it. You’re so beautiful.” He said and kissed her shoulder.
The young artist laughed and rolled over so she could tuck herself into his chest. “You’re a dork, you know that?” She said against his collarbone.
Ezra chuckled. “But I’m your dork.” He said.
Sabine smiled and looked up at him with a loving smile on her face. “Yeah, you are.” She said and leaned up to kiss him.
The young man smiled into the kiss and deepened it, earning a soft moan from his girlfriend. Without warning, Ezra managed to roll over so he was now on top, but Sabine didn’t seem to mind and instead, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer to her, however, before they could go any further, Sabine’s phone started to ring.
Both young adults groaned, and Sabine buried her face into Ezra’s neck. “I can’t believe it.” She whispered against her boyfriend’s skin.
She sat up and pulled the covers over her so she could be decent before grabbing her phone and checking who was calling her. Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw the ID caller and answered the call.
“Hello?” She asked.
“Hi, sweetheart.” Alrich’s voice answered.
“Hi, dad. How are you?” The artist asked.
“I’m fine. I didn’t wake you, did I?” Her father asked.
“No, no. I just woke up.” Sabine said as she glanced at her boyfriend and gave him a smirk to which Ezra answered with his trademark smile.
“Oh, good.” Alrich answered. “Listen, sweetheart. There’s something I want to talk to you about.”
“What is it, dad?” Sabine asked.
“Don’t worry, it’s nothing bad.” Alrich assured her. “I was actually hoping that you and Ezra could come and spend Christmas with us.”
“Oh…really, dad?” Sabine asked surprised. Ever since she and Ezra had moved in together when they had started college, Sabine decided to spend most of the holidays with him, except for Thanksgiving and some days of the Summer and Winter breaks when she decided to go back and visit her family for a few days.
“Yes. Well, if you and Ezra haven’t made plans for Christmas, of course.” The architect said.
“No, we don’t have any plans for Christmas.” Sabine said and glanced at her boyfriend again. “I just need to talk with Ezra about it.” She said and smiled at him again.
“Of course, sweetheart. There’s no rush, call me back when you’ve already talked about it.” He said.
“Sure thing, dad.” Sabine said. “Say “hi” to mother and Tristan for me.”
“I will. Take care, I love you.” Alrich said.
“Love you too, dad.” The young woman and hung up. She stayed standing there thinking about what her father had said; she had enjoyed spending Christmas with Ezra and his parents last year but after attending her cousin’s wedding and fixing things with her mother, Sabine was looking forward to going back home during the Winter break and spend Christmas and New Year’s with her family and was surprised her father was inviting Ezra to spend the holidays with them too.
The artist smiled softly, she was glad her family had accepted Ezra even if at first her mother didn’t like him but after seeing how he treated Sabine and that his love for her was genuine, her mother accepted him into the family with open arms.
“Do you have any plans with your parents for Christmas?” She asked after a while.
“No, I was going to tell you about that yesterday but…um…I was distracted.” He said with a smirk on his face.
Sabine chuckled and leaned back against him. “So?”
“My parents called me yesterday and told me they were going on a Christmas and New Year’s cruise. The cruise will present “The Nutcracker” on board and they chose several musicians for the orchestra, among them, my mother, so she and my father are going to spend two weeks traveling through the Caribbean.” He said.
“Oh, wow.” Sabine said. “And they didn’t invite you?” She asked.
“They asked me if I wanted to accompany them, but I told them no, besides, I think they deserve some time alone.” He said. “They rarely go on vacation, and when they do, I usually go with them. So, I want this vacation to be just for them.”
The young artist smiled softly at her boyfriend. “You are very considerate, Ez.” She said.
Ezra smiled softly. “Thank you ‘Bine.” He said. “But yeah, if your parents are inviting me to spend Christmas with them and your entire family, I’ll be honored to go, that is, if you want me to go?”
Sabine smiled softly and kissed him on the cheek. “Of course, I want you to go, Ez. I’ll be very happy if you come with me to celebrate Christmas with me and my family.” She said.
“Nice.” He said and leaned down to kiss her on the lips.
They broke apart when they heard another growl that came from Sabine’s stomach, reminding her that they hadn’t had breakfast yet. They both laughed and got out of bed, then, they got ready for the day before heading to the kitchen to make breakfast.
A few days later, Hera and Sabine were having lunch and talking about their plans for Christmas and New Year.
“So, do you and Ezra already have plans for Christmas?” Hera asked.
“Yeah, we do.” Sabine answered and took a bite from her salad. “My parents invited him to spend Christmas and New Years with us.” She said.
“Oh, wow.” Hera said. “And what did Ezra say?” She asked.
“He accepted the invitation and he's pretty excited to go.” The artist answered with a soft smile on her face.
“And what about his parents?” The older woman asked. “They didn't get upset that Ezra is going to spend Christmas with you and your family?”
Sabine shook her head. “No, they are going on a two-week cruise for Christmas and New Year.” She said.
“Oh.” Hera said. “Well, I’m glad for them.” She said.
“Yeah, me too.” The young woman said. “And what about you? Do you and Kanan have any plans for Christmas?” She asked.
“Yes, this year we are going to spend Christmas with his mother and for New Year we will spend it with my father, my uncle, and my cousin.” Hera answered.
“Oh, that's nice.” Sabine said as she took a sip from her water.
“Here.” Ezra said as he gave Sabine a cup of coffee.
“Thank you, Ez.” She answered and took a sip from her coffee.
“You’re welcome.” He said and sat beside her.
They sat in silence just enjoying each other's company and drinking their coffee. They had gone for their Christmas earlier that day and had spent most of the afternoon decorating it and the apartment.
“My dad called me while we were at the pine farm.” The artist said.
“What did he tell you?” Her boyfriend asked.
“He told me he already bought our plane tickets and that he is going to pick us up at the airport when we arrive.” Sabine answered.
Ezra took another sip of his coffee. “That's nice.” He said.
“He also told me that we should go heavily coated, it has been snowing almost most of the week and the weather's forecast said that would continue in the upcoming weeks.” Sabine said.
“Alright.” The young man said. “Do I need to know something else?” He asked.
“Yes, for New Year we usually go to a hotel for dinner, and you need to wear a tuxedo since the hotel has a very strict dress code for New Year.” His girlfriend answered. “Don't worry about the tuxedo though, I’m sure my brother or my father have one that fits you and in case it doesn't, we have a tailor that can adjust it in less than a day.”
“That's good.” Ezra said. “And what does your family do for Christmas? Do you have any traditions?”
Sabine thought about that. “Well, usually the whole family gets together for dinner on the 24th at my parents' house and most of my cousins stay the night. The next morning, we all have breakfast and open the presents that were put under the tree.” She said.
“Sounds fun.” Her boyfriend said.
“It is. We usually watched Christmas movies or played games while we waited for dinner to be ready.” She said.
“Well, I’m sure this Christmas will be quite interesting.” Ezra said.
Sabine smiled and rested her hand on Ezra's shoulder. This was going to be an interesting Christmas.
