It starts as a joke. Katie Cole always expects to be forgotten when departments do their Secret Santa. So she mentions the one gift she wants from Erin Strauss. She wants Elle Greenaway brought home to her, well away from the BAU.
The days pass, people draw their secret santa people and she settles to work finding the right gift for Erin Strauss herself. Later, when they get together to hand out gifts, she watches everyone unwrapping their presents, knowing she won’t have been forgotten but sure her gift won’t be worth much…. Then it’s her time, it’s her time and Elle walks through the door, smiling as she moves to settle into Katie’s lap.
“Merry Christmas Katie…”
Later, much later, Elle falls asleep with Katie wrapped around her, content at last.
