Work Text:
When Alfred came to bed, Wilhelmina was already waiting for him. Midway through her pregnancy, she had less energy in the evenings than she used to, so had retired just after dinner. She was reading a book now, and a half-eaten plate of biscuits rested on her bedside table.
Alfred kissed her cheek in greeting as he got into bed, before reaching over to steal a biscuit for himself.
“You’ve had a very sweet tooth lately; haven’t you, Mina?”
“It’s the baby,” Wilhelmina sighed, rubbing her belly. “It’s quite common, apparently. Her Majesty herself told me that she always wants extra sugar when she’s pregnant.”
“Well, you are growing a child,” Alfred said, also placing a hand on her belly. “I believe you’re entitled to as many biscuits as you need.”
Wilhelmina smiled; partially in reply to Alfred, partially because the baby had just kicked.
“See?” Alfred laughed, “He agrees.”
