Work Text:

Your joints ached as the vicious winds whipped against the wooden walls, creaking as your shivered in your pitiful bedroll.  There was no way to build a fire, not without lighting the whole damn building on fire. However, the idea didn’t seem too horrendous compared to the bitter cold that sunk into your bones. You had been travelling for days now, close to a nearby town when you and your companion, Shepherd, had been caught up in a wicked snow storm. You were blessed enough to find the rickety ol’ shack before the worst of it hit. In any case, you weren’t leaving until the morning so the two of you got settled.

“You alright?” Shepherd asked, voice carrying a touch of concern.

Your head tilted up from where you laid to the tiefling man across from you. He was going through his pack, taking inventory of what the two of your had. Light from your small lantern illuminating his devilish form. The two of you had been travelling for quite some time together. Long enough to where a certain type of longing filled your mind and soft touches echoed throughout your dreams. Could anyone blame you? The tiefling was quite the gentleman.

Speaking of which, he was concerned? The shawl he wore did nothing to stave off the cold. You could tell he was feeling the bite too, even if he did his best to hide it. He was always like that.

“Me? Are you going to be alright?” You asked, sitting up with a frown.

You received a scoff and a head shake in return. He looked down and continued to look through his pack.

“This ain’t anythin’ like Yona, that’s for sure.” He grumbled before pulling a blanket out of his pack and walking over to you, draping it over your shivering form.  “Here.”

A soft blushed graced your already cold flushed cheeks at the gesture. Despite that, you protested.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine for the night.” Shepherd said simply, walking back to his pack and pulling out his bed roll. It was just a pitiful as yours. That certainly wouldn’t do.

You watched Shepherd as he laid out his bed roll on the hard ground, settling into the cold night when you got up. And maybe you were just tired and, yeah, you were freezing but you found yourself standing up. The tiefling looked up, confusion shifting to soft protests as you moved your bed roll over.

“Darlin’, it’s alright. You don’t need to-“ He began but your weren’t having it as you flung the blanket over the two of you, snuggling close to him. You heard his breath catch as your head rested against this chest, closing your eyes so you wouldn’t have a chance to overthink what you’re doing.

It was a few moments, enough for you to begin to worry, but eventually an arm settles over you. You heard him sigh as he shifted around, getting comfortable.

“You’re a stubborn one, aren’t you?” Shepherd hummed, a smile in his voice.

If there was one thing for certain, neither of your would be freezing that night.
