Part of the Sea

Summary:

Atlas, with Diggie's help, dreams of a new world: one that has sunken into the depths a long time ago.

By MGL Writer HoneyBee20

Work Text:

I am Atlas, the current strongest abysmal sea creature known to the Land of Dawn. The depths of the Abysmal Sea is my home, though to the oldest living beings of my kind it was known as a prison for our race. I have successfully escaped this so called prison and came to learn that my kind was once known throughout the world in our previous forms as shelled monstrosities under the grim moniker of the devourers of elements. After strange set of events upon my journey in the Land of Dawn I have befriended the mild mannered Diggie and accompanied him back to his home upon the magnificent city of  Antoinerei.

Here in this city of scholars and tinkers, Diggie assisted me in researching upon how my kin came to be locked up at the cold mysterious depths of the deep sea located farther than the Frozen Sea. The stories have said that my kind were dangerous and had been exiled by the Ancient People for the safety of the whole Land of Dawn. Though the current scholars now liked to argue that the Zhask's swarm are far more lethal than my race.

Diggie and a number of his colleagues have a strong suspicion upon where my race originally thrived. He believes we may have been the creatures that had once maintained the balance in the olden Megalith Wasteland. Diggie had casted a chrono spell upon the wastelands on one of his expirements. It was a derivation of the ancient time magic known as Historia. He had seen that the Megalith Wastelands was once swarmed with elemantal creatures that had occupied the area as far as the naked eye could see, Diggie believes that the mana levels in the land had once reached the highest peak that it had poisoned the weaker fauna and flora of the environment.

Diggie wished to conversed with both Grock and Belerick to confirm upon his assumptions that when the elemental creatures would reach an astronomical number it would pose a threat to the land's ecology. Though I appreciated my first ever friend's wish to attest on my race's necessity among the land of dawn. I couldn't imagine the rest of my kin adapting to the Megalith Wastelands with gusto for we have been far to accustomed to the deep sea. In fact we had evolved and changed our shape to suit the mysterious depths of the Abyssal Sea long ago. Perhaps to others this might be a sad state of affairs for our race, to have reached to a point wherein we had rapidly remodeled our very being to survive the high pressure and tides of our sea prison.

I, Atlas, on the other hand have a love for my home. Prison it may have been whenever I had wished to know what lies at the skies of the mysterious deep, I couldn't come to hate the darkness of the water even when it seemed that the Abysmal Sea had become far more dangerous than before. This love for my home became apparent to me on my journey from the icy Northern Vale and to the boisterous Moniyan Empire. In the early days I had become fascinated with the bright stars that adorned the night sky, I had been mesmerized upon the aurora borealis in the north and came to hate the smog that covered the skies of the Eruditio.

Now I dream of a time wherein my race could float upon the currents of the Abyssal Sea and enjoy the stars of the night sky. I dream of a time when our younglings may freely explore the deepest seabed, discover the remnants of civilizations long past while having the option of taking the sights of the land from the evergreen forest of the Azrya Woodlands and the seemingly neverending desert of the Agetla Drylands. I could find other mechanical sentries and try to see if any of my kind could bring them to life as well but I would want it more if I could find the treasure hidden in the Northern Vale that is able to rejuvenate the seas as the pirate stories foretold.

Diggie was kind enough to assist me in tracing back to the records of the rumored treasure. He believes this treasure might be something of an artifact left by the sea loving Ancient People. Diggie had proposed the notion that we should try to look for Kadita the queen of the seas to verify the existence of this treasure. I had quickly convinced him to give up on this idea though for I don't know if the temperamental sea beauty might decide to keep the treasure for herself. I also quickly warned him not to think of approaching the guardian of snow known as the Ice Queen Aurora as she might decide to use the healing powers of the treasure on her once departed lover.

Upon perusing the numerous lores of myths and legends we had stumbed upon the stories of the goddess that has kept the balance of Land of Dawn. Strangely enough upon first reading about her I could feel my instinct screaming to find her for unlike the Ancient People she would not come to hate my kind. She would be able to see our place in this world. Diggie had seen my great curiousity over this being that he had told me that Belerick once journeyed with this great being back when she had lost her memories. As far as Diggie knows this mysterious rumored goddess now keeps watch over the land of dawn upon the floating city of the sky.

Diggie then remembered that this city is a proof of a once powerful and mysterious civilization. They say keeping guard of this city is a winged being that bears familiarity to both the healer Angela and the fallen winged angel Argus. They also tell of powerful being clad in a msyterious metal that gleams of gold but inhabiting it is a creature of energy. When Diggie had spoken of this armor I suddenly saw in my subconcious mind a very realistic appariton of this floating city and of the beings that guard this. Strange how I could imagine it when this was the very first time I have heard of this place but perhaps the fragmented soul that was once in this mechanical sentry I now inhabit was once part of a civilization that had aimed to be part of this floating city.

I, Atlas, know it may be far from the Northern Vale where the treasure is rumored to be hidden. In the very depths of my being I believe that floating city will hold answers not only of the treasure but as well as that of the mysteries about my race and of the history of the mechanical sentry. Now forward I shall march to find this city of the past and future. I will find the treasure and bring back to life the Abysmal Sea the home of my people.
