Chapter Text
At six thirty Shiro heard a knock on the door. He tries to think of who might be as he goes to answer it. Pidge is probably working late, Lance and Allura are out on a date night while Hunk is watching their kids. He eventually comes to the conclusion that it’s carolers. When he opens the door he’s met with violet eyes, ebony hair and a soft, hopeful smile that’s all too familiar. A smile that he hasn't seen in three years. Oh, Shiro missed that smile. “Hey.” Keith breathes out low and husky and all I can do is stare at him. At first he didn't even register the backpack slung over his shoulder and the suitcase that rests at his side. After a few long moments he asks, “Can I come inside? I’m kind of freezing my ass off out here.” He gestures vaguely at the snow and ice that’s currently covering the city like a blanket. “Y-yeah, come in.” Shiro stammers, still dazed as he steps back from the doorway to let Keith inside. He takes off his boots and hangs up his coat on the hooks by the door along with his backpack. “Would you like some tea?” Shiro offers. “Or, I don’t know, I have some hot chocolate?” “Hot chocolate sounds good.” Keith replies with a nod and a smile. Shiro makes the hot chocolate while Keith sits silently at the island in the kitchen. Finally as they’re drinking in silence, he decides to speak. “I’m really sorry about dropping in on you unannounced.” He starts, rushed. “Hell, I only found out that I even could come home for the holidays last week, and I made a plan with Pidge and Hunk about staying with them and than I would regroup for the night, but Pidge is working late tonight because something came up and Hunk is babysitting for Lance and Allura because they’re out on a date tonight, and they live in the suburbs and Pidge won’t answer their phone to tell me where the hell they keep the spare key and I swear I looked everywhere and I was starting to get really fucking cold so I came here because you were the first person who came to mind and you didn’t even know I was in this solar system but I showed up with all my luggage and probably frost bite and even when I get to stay with Pidge I’ll be sleeping on their couch!” Shiro is silent for a while as he processes what he just heard. Keith is staying for Christmas. He’ll finally get a much deserved break, but he was also frantically apologizing for coming over. “Keith, I’m glad you stopped by, you don’t need to apologize. I’m really happy to see you. It’s good to have you back.’’ he says with a soft smile. “It’s good to be back.” Keith responds, echoing the words Shiro said to him years ago. “So, you’re sleeping on a couch? Haven’t you been sleeping on a cot for the past year?” Keith lets out a huff of air. “Yeah, I have. So I get an upgrade.” He says, clearly being sarcastic. “Well, you could sleep here.” Shiro offers. “Guest room has a king sized bed, lots of closet space and-“ “ That already sounds way better than a cot and comfier than a couch,” Keith says interrupting him “so I will gladly take you up on that offer.” “Great” Shiro exclaims. “Since your luggage is already here I can help you get set up, once we finish our hot chocolate of course.” Keith laughed. “Oh but of course.“ He said before clinking his mug with Shiro’s.
Once both of them had finished the hot chocolate they went upstairs to get Keith set up in his room. Keith let out a low whistle as they walked in. “Not too shabby, eh?“ Keith looked around the room taking in the open layout, large wardrobe in the corner, desk and a huge bed with the comforter tucked in neatly at the sides. “This looks amazing, Shiro.” Keith says rolling his suitcase in and sitting on the side of the bed. Shiro helped Keith unpack and showed him where his own personal bathroom was. “I love the showers here. They have a great water pressure that feels amazing on sore muscles“ Shiro says. “I might try that out tonight.“ Keith responds. “So, you’re probably really tired, but my plan was to just order in and watch a Christmas movie.” Shiro says “That sounds great, I might fall asleep in the middle of it though. What movie were you planning on watching?” “I was thinking ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’. It’s a classic.” “Sounds great, I think I’ll take a quick shower if that’s alright?” Keith asks. “For sure, I’ll order.” He tries not to picture Keith in his shower, warm water running over every inch of his beautiful body. over lean muscles and sharp angles, hair wet and slicked back, completely naked---nope. Get that thought out of your head. Friends don’t think about each other like that.
“Is it that place on Elm street?” Keith says, interrupting Shiro’s pornographic train of thought.
“Y-Yeah, same order still?”
“Yup” He responds with a smile before turning to go take that shower.
Shiro has ordered the food and it should be here in about 20 minutes. So now he sits in his living room, waiting for Keith to finish. He can hear the sound of running water from the floor above. As he listens to the shower, his thoughts start to wonder what's happening up there. Keith standing in a steamy, humid room, the sensation of hot pressured water hitting bare skin and sore muscles. A dark part of Shiro is tempted to go up there and join him, but the rational part of him knows Keith would not appreciate getting walked in on like that. So instead he sits alone, pulls out his phone and texts Pidge and tells them about Keith staying with him instead.
Shiro: Hey! So, change of plans, Keith is going to stay with me over the holidays.
Pidge: o….k. What’s up with that?
Shiro: I just have more space. He gets a whole room to himself now.
Pidge: Don’t you mean half a room? Won’t he be sharing with you?
Shiro: What?! No! He’ll be sleeping across the hall from me.
Pidge: Right. That way it’s not suspicious, but you still have easy access to each other’s rooms.
Shiro: Pidge! No! He’ll sleep in his room and me in mine. It’s not like that.
Pidge: Ok, fine.
Pidge: How are you going to handle him being with you for two weeks tho?
Shiro: I’ve got it. My feelings are totally in check.
Shiro decides not to tell Pidge about his previous interest in Keith taking a shower above him.
Shiro: So anyway, he’s staying here with me.
Pidge: Perfect
Pidge: Be good. Stay safe (;
Shiro was glad that Pidge couldn’t see how much he was probably blushing right now. After he called the Thai place and ordered pad thai, red curry chicken with rice, chicken satay and spring rolls. About ten minutes later Keith comes down in a pair of low rise sweatpants and a red tank top. His hair was still damp. God damn. “Hey.” Keith says smiling. “Hey, I’ve placed our orders and they should be here in five to ten minutes.” Shiro informs him. Keith looks around the living room which had a Christmas tree that was tastefully decorated, a large comfortable looking couch with festive throw pillows and a large flat screen TV. “So how do we work this thing?” Keith asks, pointing to the TV. “Oh, this TV is weird and confusing so I normally just use the one in my room instead.” Shiro says
“So, do we want to eat and then watch or eat while watching? Are you ok with us eating in your bed?” “Oh yeah. I eat more in my bed than I care to admit. But since I have company I think it would be nice to eat at the table.” Keith nods. “Sounds good to me.”
About 10 minutes later the doorbell rings, and Shiro goes to answer it. He grabs the food, pays and thanks the delivery guy, and goes to the dinning room where Keith is sitting patiently waiting for him. As soon as Shiro walks in with the food the smell is overwhelming. “Oh my god! I’ve missed good ol’ Thai food. I’ve basically been surviving off of food goo for the past year.” Keith says, appetite growing. The conversation flows easily between them as they eat and pretty soon all the food has been eaten. “Movie time?” Keith asks with a childish glint in his eyes. “Yup,” Shiro replies amused. “The TV is pretty straight forward, the remote is on my dresser, just turn it on and go to prime and “It’s a Wonderful Life” should be easy to find. I’ll just clean up and I’ll be with you in a minute.” Shiro instructs. “Sounds good.” Keith responds as he brings his dirty dishes into the kitchen before heading up stairs.
When Keith opens the door to Shiro's room he isn’t surprised to find the bed neatly made, all the clothes put away and the remote for the TV laid out on the bedside table. He strolls over to the table, picks the remote and then flops comfortably onto the bed. He then promptly ruins all of Shio’s hard work of making the bed by burrowing deep under the comforters. Shiro was right, the TV was simple enough. Keith got the movie set up in no time and then waited for Shiro to join him.
Once all the take out containers were cleaned and put away and the dishwasher was loaded and started, Shiro made his way upstairs. When he walked in he was not mentally prepared for the image of Keith in his bed, snuggled under the comforters, with his long ebony hair slightly in his face. Shiro was way too pleased at the sight of Keith in his bed. Keith turned and gave Shiro a soft smile that almost melted his heart. Keeping distance between them had fooled Shiro into thinking that he was over Keith but this evening had clearly disproved this thought. “You look comfortable.” Shiro remarks with a light chuckle. “ Oh, I am. This bed is amazing!” Keith responds. “Maybe I should just sleep here instead.” Keith said it as a joke but the idea is appealing.”Let’s start that movie.” Shiro says joining Keith under the covers. Keith rolls around a bit, seemingly trying to get comfortable, before letting out a soft groan. “What’s up?” Shiro asks, turning on to his side to face him. Keith lets out a sigh.“My shoulders are just still tight. The shower helped a bit but they’re still bugging me. Would you mind just rubbing them for me?” He asks. “Not at all.” Shiro responds sitting upright in the bed. Keith climbs out from under the covers and sits cross legged in front of him. He rubs gently at first, trying to find where the knots are until he brushes against a spot that makes Keith let out a soft moan. Shiro rubs the spot again, this time with a bit more pressure, receiving an equally satisfying moan in response. “Fuck, yes, Shiro. Right there.” Shiro puts all his focus on that knot, kneading at the muscle and tissue. God, the sounds Keith made would be haunting his dreams tonight. Keith lets outs another sigh before rolling out his shoulder. “Thanks, Shiro.” He says, seemingly unbothered. “Y-yeah, no problem.” Shiro responds before sliding back into his semi-upright position with his head propped up on the pillows, trying to ignore the heat between his legs.
About three quarters of the way into the movie Keith started to doze off. He really tried to stay awake, but the movie wasn’t exactly exhilarating. So, having given up on staying awake, Keith curls up next to Shiro, resting his head on the larger man's chest. Shiro moves his hand and starts absently running his fingers through Keith’s long black hair.
The movie finishes and Shiro turns off the TV. He turns slightly to look at Keith and almost asks him something before noticing that he is out cold. He can’t help but smile at Keith sleeping peacefully in his bed. He briefly debates shaking him slightly and getting him to move to the guest room but ultimately he decides that it would be a shame to wake him. So he turns off the bedside lame before drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
