Chapter Text
The green-eyed boy stared at the ceiling, there was something boring related to his mother's company today. He got up, glanced at the wardrobe, struggling to understand what to do next. He lay back on his warm bed and fell asleep again.
......
"YUUCHIRO!!" His father shouted, practically breaking down his door. "Guren, why break the door? It's not a big deal, but you don't need to break doors like that," Shinya, his other father, appeared behind him, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"It's your fault. This kid is a slacker because of you. He takes twice as long as Mahiru to get ready, and that shitty party starts at 5:00 pm. Also, who sleeps until 1:30 pm on a saturday?! He's just like you; I don't know why you're not biological father and son. If he has any bad habits, it's your fault."
By now, Yuu was halfway off the bed, again in a deep sleep with the blinds' cord tangled around his foot.
"It's a shame we'll have to eat all the curry alone... and Yuu loves Naoko's curry so much," Shinya said teasingly, covering Guren's mouth with both hands.
Guren swatted his boyfriend's hand away, joining in the banter. "True! It's a PITY! We'll have to call Shinoa to eat his share!" The purple-eyed one made the most drama possible, and Shinya was holding back laughter when Yuu finally stirred.
"Fine!" He grumbled, irritated. "Just for the curry." His parents smiled triumphantly and left the room after a playful punch.
.......
Jumping from one paving stone to another, Yuu headed to Naoko's restaurant. He enjoyed going there with his biological parents and was friends with the old owner daughter(the now owner)since childhood.
"Naoko!" He rushed in, greeted her, and she petted his head. "Yuu, long time no see! Shinya-san, Guren-san, and Mahiru-chan, good to see you again too." She warmly led them to a vacant table for four.
Yuu and Guren competed to see who could eat more fries while Shinya laughed at them. Mahiru simply watched, pretending not to know where they learned that (Headcanon: she and Shinya do the same but not in public).
"Oh, by the way, about today's celebration..." The purple-haired one caught the attention of the three. "Yuu, I think you'll like a certain someone who will be there." She chuckled.
"Mahiru-san, I'm not very interested in girls..." The woman's smile widened, Guren frowned, and Shinya thought out loud, "Well, he's not catching on," while Yuu still looked clueless, stuffing his face with fries, taking advantage of Guren's distraction.
"Who will be there? Besides Shi?"They exchanged glances. "Now, that's a surprise, an extra reason to go to the party, besides being dragged into it." Yuu got annoyed with his father. "Shinya, please tell me!" The other covered his mouth with both hands and shook his head. Yuu took out his phone, but before he could even open the browser, Guren took it away.
"No phones at the table; you know the rule. You're grounded until tomorrow." They were conspiring against him! Real punishments lasted at least a week, and Guren himself had been on his phone just before the fries arrived. He returned to eating the fries in handfuls, annoyed. In the end, both lost to Shinya.
.......
"How's my favorite nephew doing?" Shinoa suddenly appeared in Yuu's room with open arms, ready to hug him.
He dodged her, and she tried again, but he evaded once more. "Did your parents never teach you manners? Greet your aunt with a warm hug!" Shinoa gave him a mischievous smile. He ran to the corner of his room, and someone pulled Shinoa away. "Shinoa, leave Yuu alone!"
Mitsuba, whose pigtails and dark blue eyes were markable, had her hair down, appearing recently washed. "What are you doing here?" Yuu asked disapprovingly. "The party, Dumbass" declared the taller of the two, wondering how he had been raised by her older siblings and Guren (thanks to Aoi's relationship with Kureto).
"We came to get ready and to make you presentable. You need to look good in case you find someone, imagine finding a hottie like Micchan, but without an owner." Mitsuba pulled Shinoa's hair this time. "SHINOA! I told you to stop saying such things in front of others!"
Secretly, Mitsuba liked these comments coming from Shinoa; she complimented her and praised her girlfriend's body, making her feel more secure about herself.
Due to previous family issues, she was very insecure, but she reconciled with her sister and addressed it in weekly therapy sessions.
"Okay, okay, it's just that you're so beautiful that I can't control myself, it just slips out, you know?" Yuu was already irritated with the two. "IF YOU CAME INTO MY ROOM JUST TO FLIRT, THEN GET OUT!"
They didn't wake him from a pleasant nap on a rainy afternoon to listen to his aunts flirt in front of him. "Don't forget to get ready," Shinoa said, being dragged out by Mitsuba while sweetly waving to her nephew.
.......
"This is annoying..." The two were sitting in the back seat of Mahiru's car, and Shinya drove grumpily. Everyone was grumpy; Shinoa wanted to be in the same car as Mitsuba, the couple wished Guren had gone with them as well, but he went with Kureto, Aoi, and Mitsuba in another car to avoid an accident (or a war), and Yuu just didn't want to go, ir was too far from home , plus he hated suits or fancy clothes, and he was in one that was especially tight.
"Don't even tell me, and the traffic isn't moving... what's the point of being rich if you're going to spend hours at a damn traffic light?" Shinya was losing patience, and Mahiru too. Although Guren tried to avoid a war he was also a peace agreement between Shinya and Mahiru, Yuu felt like the car would catch fire at any moment, and Shinoa was preparing to record an argument and sell it to some gossip site for a high price.
"Shinya sounds like a spoiled brat" Yuu "whispered" to his aunt, who would never be called that. "Everyone in the family is like that, except you and Guren." She shrugged, and her sister spoke up. "Shinya, switch with me; my driver's license has fewer points."
They climbed over each other and switched seats. Mahiru took off her matte black heels and violated every possible traffic law on the way to the party.
.....
It was hot in that hall, and Yuu was starting to get annoyed. It had been two hours since the start of the party, and he had obviously slept all that time until his aunts arrived and started shouting at him to wake up. They sat in front of him and started flirting.
Shinoa wore a metallic lilac strapless dress that went down to her knees, with a thin black fabric rising in a triangular shape to her neck, ending in a black glitter choker. A rare occasion when the owner of lilac strands didn't tie them up.
Mitsuba, on the other hand, had her usual pigtails, and the sky blue dress with glitter all over, it looked good on her. The thin straps and the volume of the skirt due to closed ruffles created a very beautiful effect.
Both had their nails painted in colors slightly more vivid than their dresses, not to mention the matching hair accessories.
The older Hīragi sister appeared sulky and threw herself into the chair as her husband aways does. Her strapless red dress with precious stone embroidery and the ruby accessories made her look a few years older than she actually was. She seemed intentionally to portray a 30-year-old woman at formal parties; people treated her not as a young irresponsible adult but as the CEO of an important company (as it should be, even if she were in pajamas).
"What happened, Mo-...hiru?" Yuu almost called her mom. He was a little embarrassed due to the few years of difference between them, and Shinoa would tease him while calling herself aunty.
"Guren and Shinya were flirting..." Before answering, she chuckled, the older one found it cute that her son was embarrassed about something as silly as calling her mom. It improved her mood. "They forgot about me there."
"You talk as if you don't do the same when you're flirting with Guren. They are also married; Shinya must feel the same when you're clinging to Guren." Mitsuba said indifferently, and she was completely right; those two became unbearable when it came to Guren, acting like two children fighting to see who gets on the ride first.
"This is so boring!" Yuu threw himself on the table; he was already dying of boredom. "Sit properly, Yuu." Mahiru tapped the brunette's head. "Behave for just a few more hours."
The sound of something hitting a glass echoed through the hall, and it was Shi with a blonde silhouette next to him that was not recognizable due to at least 20 heads in front of whoever was there.
For some reason, that caught Yuu's attention. He fixed his eyes on those blonde strands that, for some reason, were familiar.
"Thank you all for being here. I imagine some of you may have seen some news about him. Well, I would like to introduce my son, Mikaela, to everyone present." The blonde figure Yuu couldn't take his eyes off of stood up, revealing a familiar face. "Mika," he murmured while feeling his face heat up and a tingling sensation in his stomach.
He was even more beautiful than he remembered; his hair had grown and reached just below his shoulders, messy in a way that had both masculine and feminine traits. Something clicked in Yuu's head, and he realized that Mika was Shi's son... MIKA WAS SHI'S SON!
That explained the feeling of having to be polite and friendly with that man!
Mikaela looked incredibly handsome in that pale matte blue and bright white suit with golden details, enhancing his dark blue eyes.
A feeling of happiness filled Yuu's chest, and a smile appeared on his face. "We lost him, hehe." Shinoa whispered to her girlfriend and sister while Yuu was too distracted admiring Mikaela to hear anything other than the voice of the blonde officially introducing himself to his father's partners and friends.
Everyone was aware that the Mikaela from the orphanage where Yuu grew up was not just a friend and that he had been adopted by Krul shortly before Yuu's adoption, even though the boy himself paid little attention to the news. In fact, he didn't care about anything that didn't interest him or involve the gossip sold by Shinoa (whom he helped at times to share the profits).
.......
He was panicking, not having any idea how he should talk to Mikaela. Should he just say hi? Or should he try to initiate a formal conversation? They hadn't seen each other in 4 years; what should he do?
Taking a deep breath, he bolted towards the open bar, leaving the three behind without a word. Making sure no one was watching and sneaking through the crowd like a ninja, he finally reached the corner where the open bar was. Why was it so far from the table area?
"Hehe, hot emo," was the first thing Yuuchiro heard as he approached the counter. He looked at the so-called "hot emo," who had long, messy black hair reaching his shoulders, even more disheveled than Mika's, with the bangs secured by X-shaped hair clips. He was attractive but not as much as Mika.
"What'll it be?" the bartender, responsible for the earlier remark, approached him, looking Yuu up and down. "Aren't you a bit young to be drinking?"
Yuu pulled out his wallet. "How much do I look like? 18?"
The purple-haired bartender smiled. "Fifty. What do you want?" Yuu took a fifty-dollar bill from his wallet and pointed to a sweet wine he had tried on New Year's.
He ran off with the glass in hand towards the glass doors leading to a large balcony, making the mansion resemble an ancient castle.
"If you get fired, I'll pretend I don't know you," said the "hot emo" indifferently. "I'll stop if you agree to sleep with me," the purple-haired one said. "Shut up, Lacus," the other laughed, kissing the brunette's neck.
......
Yuu's green orbs reflected the full moon, which was unusually large in the sky. Why was he so nervous about talking to Mikaela? They were friends; well, they never stopped being friends, they just hadn't talked in four years.
What could be making him so nervous? His stomach was tingling, his ears and face were burning, and the feeling that he was about to have a heart attack due to his racing heart was not very encouraging.
......
Mikaela was completely bored. A friend of his father was saying something about his daughter being a great potential wife, and the girl was staring at Mika with a flushed face. Her red, curly hair reached her shoulders, her green eyes slightly lighter than Yuu's, and she wore an olive-green dress full of ruffles . Her father had the same eyes and hair, a freshly shaved beard, and a rectangular face in a black suit with olive-green details. It was clear what the party had become—it was no longer an introduction of Mikaela to Japanese high society; now it was a competition to see who would steal the young Mikaela's heart and increase their family's power.
He knew it wasn't his father's intention, especially since he knew about Mikaela's sexuality and his current love interest. But it was inevitable; one of the Hiragi Corporation's major partners had a son, and his adoptive mother was a powerful woman. Moreover, he was a beautiful young man!
Mikaela felt like he was in the Middle Ages. It was ridiculous; in the 21st century, several guests practically wanted to sell their daughters for power.
Shikama was clearly irritated, but he didn't want to be rude to his long-time friend. However, he was about to tell that man to go to hell.
"Shi!" The short, purple-haired girl appeared behind the grizzled man. "Shinoa-san." He smiled; this girl was his salvation. "Hun? Mikaela-san? Wow, you're even more beautiful than I imagined. Yuu won't stop talking about you; it's almost annoying." She laughed a bit at the expression on Mikaela's face. They were two idiots in love, incapable of having a complete conversation. From now on, she vowed to be the blessed cupid of her beloved nephew!
"Oh, Yuu is so nervous he doesn't even know how to talk to you. It's so sad to see my nephew like this. Could you go talk to him? He's on the balcony." She pointed to the glass doors. "Yuu-chan..." A sparkle appeared in the blonde's eyes; he wanted to run over and ki—hug! hug him until he couldn't breathe.
"I apologize, but I'll excuse myself." Mikaela controlled his impulses and politely left the scene. With quick steps, he went to the glass doors, looked around, took a deep breath, and discreetly opened the door so that Yuu—absorbed in his thoughts—wouldn't hear.
"Why did you become so handsome, Mika?" He said in a silently shouted whisper, his ears slightly red (from the alcohol he shouldn't have drunk). The blonde's heart beat even faster; Yuu said he became more handsome? A huge happiness filled Mikaela's chest, and a smile appeared on his face. "Yuu-Chan also became very handsome. It's unfair..."
"Mika!" It was him! Wait, Mika said he became more handsome?! Mikaela? This Greek god said he became more handsome? The two teenagers screamed internally as they admired each other's beauty, and the world beyond that balcony ceased to exist when their eyes met.
"M-Mika! How have you been?" The brunette tried to start a conversation, but he wasn't sure what to ask. It had been four years since they last looked at each other.
"Well, very well, actually." He approached Yuu. "Who adopted you? Was it Shi?" Yuu tried to connect the dots mentally, but alcohol didn't help much. "No, it wasn't him. He's my biological father. I was adopted by the owner of Sanguinem." He seemed a bit embarrassed but also proud.
"Sanguinem?! I don't understand anything about fashion, but I know their clothes are amazing! There was a collection that marked me a while ago; I think the name was Michaela. They were completely angelic! They must have named it in your honor, Mika!" Yuu showered praises on the brand of the blonde's mother, feeling even happier when he complimented that particular collection. "Actually, I helped with the designs of the clothes. That's why they have my name."
"Eh! You helped with the designs?! You're really good at that!" Yuu said excitedly. He knew Mika liked fashion from a young age, but he didn't know he had such hidden talent.
Mika felt nervous; it had been so long since he had seen those green eyes shine so brightly. He couldn't help but be happy for Yuu; he seemed so different from that time yet so similar.
When Yuu arrived at the orphanage, he isolated himself from everyone there. The blond was the only one who managed to break through and get close to him, and gradually, Yuu became accustomed to the other orphans.
But, in the end, he became even worse after the incident. One of the children wanted to surprise everyone with a Christmas celebration, but it triggered a fire, and they were the only ones to escape the flames.
Yuu closed himself off again, crying himself to sleep and blaming himself for not being able to save them. The fire also took away his biological parents, even though they were abusive at times, there were moments of affection, and Yuu clung to those memories.
And now he was there, seemingly fine, nervously smiling in the presence of someone who would only bring back memories of his traumatic past, but still smiling.
Mikaela felt the same impulse as before; he wanted to hold onto the smaller one (who was shorter by less than a foot) and never let go. He wanted to wake up every morning in the same bed with him and live a peaceful life doing what he loved with those he cared about.
MIKAELA WANTED TO WAKE UP IN THE SAME BED AS YUU BECAUSE THAT'S HOW IT WAS WHEN THEY WERE YOUNGER, NOT BECAUSE HE HAS ROMANTIC INTENTIONS, OK???
"Do you really think it was a good collection?" Mikaela turned his face; he wouldn't survive if he saw Yuu's expression. "Yes! I followed some fashion shows, even though I didn't understand anything in recent years." He became a bit awkward and looked away. Mikaela returned his gaze to the brunet. "Even though my interest in fashion is zero, I felt like you were with me when I watched those shows."
Why did he say that? Mika must think he's weird now. Shinoa always said he was weird for "feeling his childhood friend next to him just by watching something he liked." Anyway, she stopped bothering him after meeting Mitsuba when Kureto started dating Aoi three years ago. In fact, she even started watching the fashion shows with him.
It had something to do with Mitsuba loving haute couture and being highly interested in fashion.
Yuu's eyes had a nervous gleam, and his face was all red. He was so adorable!
"How cute." Mika couldn't hold back; he started laughing while Yuu turned increasingly red, to the point where smoke seemed to be coming out of him.
"Don't laugh." He pouted and looked at Mikaela with an irritated expression. Now it was his turn to be a chimney.
The two fell into a somewhat not absolute silence due to the hall next door. THEY FORGOT ABOUT THE PARTY!
They looked at each other and started laughing. How foolish of them. Did they really forget the surroundings they were in?
Yes, they completely forgot the existence of any other beings in the world, as if everyone belonged to them alone.
They bickered about something useless while holding hands, inevitably attracting some glances.
At some point, Shinoa came to bother them.
"Found yourself a boyfriend, Yuu?" She said with a presumptuous smile. "Shut up." That was the dry response she received, the dry response Mika received. He felt something snap there; he couldn't help but feel a bit jealous.
"You seem quite close." She tried to pretend a curious tone but ended up sounding annoyed anyway. "Don't worry, Mikaela-kun. He's my nephew." The murderous aura Yuu hadn't noticed disappeared when the word nephew was spoken.
"Oh, take good care of him. He's very slow!" She whispered to Mikaela and quickly left them. "Changing the subject, about Shi being your biological father..." Mikaela thought for a moment; it was a complicated story even for him to imagine for Yuuchiro, who had few functional neurons, and now a few more had burned out.
"Well, my biological mother had a one-night stand affair with my father; he was drunk and didn't know what he was doing. She didn't either to the point that she and her husband hated me for not being his son. They threw me out of a moving car; they were arrested for it, and I went to the orphanage. After Krul adopted me, I started wondering who my biological father would be, and she helped me find out. A few months ago, I found out it was Shinya, so I contacted him, and he was shocked but seemed happy, which brings us to the present moment." He tried to downplay the story and avoid touching on wounds, and from Yuu's expression, he understood or at least comprehended what was told to him.
-But what about you, what happened after the orphanage?- He picked up one of the snacks from the large table in the corner opposite the balcony where they were and offered it to Yuu, who accepted without thinking twice. No matter what it is, if Mikaela gave it to him, it must be treated like treasure.
"I was adopted not long after you, maybe a few weeks? My parents—um, I mean Guren, Shinya, and Mahiru—had a conversation like 'Oh, want to have kids?' 'Yes.' 'Mm-hmm,' and then they adopted me. Mmm! Tastes like breaded shrimp." He said it as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Instead of grabbing the stick, he held Mikaela's wrist, pulled it close, and ate the snack that Mikaela was still holding, leaving him feeling awkward, nervous, and embarrassed.
....
The rest of the night unfolded calmly. Yuu completely forgot that his family had come with him and spent the rest of the night with the Dojis, mainly with Mika.
"Yuu, I finally found you!" He was shaken until he felt dizzy by his aunt, the tallest of them, who still had a whole head less than him. "Mitsu? What's up?" He hugged the blond next to him to stay on his feet while he cast an envious glance at her.
She felt a chill down her spine and took a step back. "We'll be leaving soon. Say goodbye to your boyfriend." After saying that, she ran off, feeling that she would be killed by Mikaela.
The two broke the hug and spent a few seconds avoiding eye contact with flushed faces until Yuu broke the silence.
"Give me your contact; we'll talk later." Mika quickly gave his number to Yuu, silently agreeing that Mitsuba had never called them boyfriends, even though secretly both had liked it a lot.
"Well, then I'll call you when I get home." Yuu was about to leave, but Mika stopped him from taking the first step toward the exit, hugging him.
"Mika?" His eyes widened, and his chest warmed. He hugged Mika back. "I missed you." The blond said as he looked into those emerald-colored eyes, deep and shining like rare jewels. The black strands made those eyes even more brilliant and vivid. How could he be so charming? It should be a crime.
"I-I missed you too." His heart was racing, and Yuu felt like his body was about to catch fire, and Mikaela wasn't helping at all. In fact, he was the cause of this feeling. Because of him, Yuu felt this way.
He looked so enchanting at Yuu, with his flushed cheeks and blue eyes reflecting the sky—no, the sky reflecting Mika's eyes. The gods envied the beauty of this almost perfect being and placed it in their creations.
Their faces approached, and Yuu felt Mika's breath, and Mika felt Yuu's heartbeat. Their lips were just a few centimeters away— "Yuuichiro, come on, get away from your boyfriend!" Guren arrived shouting at Yuu, and when he saw the scene, he stopped where he was. "Go get a room; no one is obligated to see you two making out."
By that time, they had already pushed each other away and were avoiding eye contact.
"E-uh, we'll talk later," Yuu said before dragging Guren back to where the rest of his family was. Mika stood still with his heart pounding as he watched Yuu drag his father through the hall.
.......
-Yuu...- The older Hiragi sister looked at her son with wide eyes and covered her mouth. " YOU UN-SINGLED YOURSELF!" Soon after, she let out a happy scream that attracted various glances, but none of them really cared.
"I knew it! MikaYuu is real! Or would it be YuuMika?" Shinoa twirled and jumped with joy. Her nephew, who was still a virgin, had finally gotten a boyfriend!
"What a lack of shame, almost getting together with the host's son? Didn't expect that from you, Yuu," Shinya said provocatively. Guren was sleeping standing next to him. Kureto and Aoi were going to get the cars downstairs, where they had left them, as they hadn't noticed a gigantic sign that read "PARKING" in red LED lights with bold letters.
"Let's go home already, and shut up!" He cut through the wall that his family was forming and ran downstairs to the previous floor.
......
At home, the brunet was hugging his life-sized character pillow from a game he liked.
The clock already showed 4 AM, and he didn't even think about sleeping. He was stuck in the moment when Mika and he almost kissed, replaying that moment in his mind.
He could feel Mikaela's breath, sense his heartbeat, and the blond strands falling across his face made that moment even more divine.
.....
The blond, on the other hand, was pondering how Yuu must be feeling at that moment. Did he want to kiss him? Or was he just caught up in the moment with Mika? What should he do?
He almost kissed his best friend. He was happy, but what about Yuu? He didn't know whether to curse or thank Guren.
He could have lost their friendship. On the other hand, he could have kissed Yuuchiro and maybe even— No, no! He couldn't think that way about Yuu. They were just friends, only friends, even if he had feelings for Yuu, it should be one-sided.
Yuu was so beautiful. He must have a girlfriend... maybe a boyfriend. What mattered was that he must have someone.
OH GOD, MIKAELA ALMOST KISSED SOMEONE IN A RELATIONSHIP! No, calm down. This was just his assumption; nothing guaranteed that Yuu was involved with someone...
In the end, just like Yuu, he would be tossing and turning in bed until dawn, thinking about his childhood best friend.
