From a player to the prize of our game

Summary:

This is my first time posting any of my writing so please don't be mean to me.

A false god reflects on the tiny mortal that captivated them.
This story is told in wishy washy first person from the view point of a higher being named Amore who is obsessed with a non-human character named Adz. They have a best friend named Kyoni who is briefly mentioned but not really important. Amore is lowkey jealous. (How tf does one write a summary)

Work Text:

It wasn't the battles that my infatuation was born from. Although uncertainty played a part, with the unfamiliar rush of adrenaline and my frantic heartbeat under the sheen of sweat was a feeling I had not felt in so long. Challenge, and uncertainty met me again like an old friend I had long since abandoned to the past.

Adzezaroula is interesting, with so much of their personality lurking beneath the surface. They never really talk about themselves or their past, Adz just exists without offering a reason. a healer haunted by death with chaos and tragedy in their blood, yet spends their time sleeping in flower fields and knitting under the moonlight. The duality of someone who embodies chaos in Amore’s eyes doing such calming, almost mundane activities captivated him. For the first time in so long Amore wanted more. to strap them down and dissect their entire being then display them like a butterfly pinned to a board. The thought brings a shiver to his spine.

You and your friend broke my headpiece, the glittering metal and ethereal gem shattered under your blade. The loss of what was once a precious item is a mere inconvenience. It can, after all, be replaced. What little grief I felt dissolved away during our next meet there, on a golden chain dangling beneath your mask to rest on collarbones, was a piece of the jewellery you stole and remade into your own. It’s petty. It’s unnecessary. It’s so in character I can't prevent a light puff of air in amusement. It didn’t sting that you gave the other piece to Kyoni like some makeshift friendship necklace. It didn't hurt that there was someone else you are devoted to.

You let me join you once. well, more like I followed and you didn't say no. You were just running errands around your pier built on fragile glass and hope, but that day holds true in my memories. As we trekked back over grassy hills, our faces were hidden by the shadow of sunset. I realized that I never wanted to part with you. And it was in those soft moments where the world was so off kilter that we could almost pretend to have a normal relationship, I think I fell in love with you.
It was at that moment, Adzezaroula went from a player in Amore’s game. To the prize the false god will claim in victory.
