Bandaids — a CCCC fic

Summary:

Mind paused, blinking and pulling back as Heart put his hands up to his metallic face to feel around.

"You're crying?" The winged man asked. Mind tried to respond before being cut off by Heart making the observation, "I didn't know you could do that."

Making an attempt to tug his hand away, Mind used the other to wipe tears as he started to walk off. "If you're– you're just going to mock me, I'll just leave—"

"Wait, wait!" Heart cried out, holding the other's hand to keep him from leaving. "No, come on, I'm sorry— Don't go, please."

Work Text:

"...Heart?"

A distorted voice caught the winged man's attention. "What do you want, Mind?" He asked.

"I— Err, I require.."

It sounded off, more fluctuated and varied than it should've been— Mind usually had such a flat tone.

"Why the hell do you sound like that? Did something happen?" Heart couldn't help but feel like something had, whether the automaton would tell him or not.

After a moment of no response, Heart let out a frustrated noise. "Keep talking, dumbass, I can't see where you are."

"I, I just.. Something ab– abnormal occurred, and–"

Two hands found each other, Mind having been successfully located. "Ah, found you."

Heart didn't let go once he'd found him, but clearly, the other was too distracted by whatever this was.

"And, regrettably, I.. I am.. I don't know what—"

Mind stopped. After a moment, he turned around.

He was thankful for the fact that Heart's face didn't have any pity in it. He hated being pitied. Instead, it seemed like a genuine interest, a curiosity... Concern?

"Mind... What's wrong?"

He tried to explain. He wanted to. He really wanted to simply list off everything that had gone wrong, get it over with, never let it bother him again. But it didn't work that way, and he hated that it didn't.

Words just wouldn't fall, and he just tensed up as he tried to make them. He still couldn't. The tears kept falling, and, through their blur, he couldn't tell— nor, later, remember— when he'd fallen into a hug with Heart.

He had, though. And the Moon didn't mind that the Sun was dim, for once, nor that the Sun was probably making him bleed with how hard he was grabbing. That's why they had bandaids.

And maybe, Heart thought, that's why the three had each other— Not just for the big things, but the small, too.
