The bonds of trust.
The year 2033
(Yes mister Vice-President, and you have a meeting with the secretary of Health and human services about the new gender affirming care initiative at two.)
Alex thought about how they ended up here again ”We are one year into this, Noras first term as president. I hade a successful run as a senator and when she asked (begged really) me to serve as her Vice-president, I just couldn’t say no. So here we are all these years later.
Mom is retired from politics but her new book about life in the white house has been really successful. She is now a renowned speaker and is touring the nation.”
Henry, me and Laura where juggling life in the public eye. After we got married I was bestowed a royal title.
However I decide to decline this time as I was in my second senate run. The royal duties I left to my husband for the time being.
There was a knock on the door to the vice presidents west wing office.
As president Nora Holleran walks in and greeting both Alex and Zarah (soon retiring from her position as chief of staff to the vice-president.) (Hi! Am I interrupting you guys?)
Alex pov: Just as i was going to answer Zarah, Nora walked in we both stood in greeting. (No not at all Madam President we all serve at the pleasure Zara responded with a grin.)
Once we where sitting Nora wanted an update on the new initiative and also wanted us to know of her plans to visit Israel, her first visit to the middle east as president of The United States.
(A few minutes earlier)
Nora walked over to Alexs white house office she thought ”I new I could have one of my assistants do this but I wanted a hands on approach.
I came to think of how we both (Alex and I ) ended up here again. How I asked him (he’ll say I begged) to become my Vice president and now we are here. Oh well thoughts for another time I thought as I was knocking on the vice presidents door.
(Later)
After the meeting the president went up home to her private residence. Alex finished the last of the paperwork and then went home to his residence. Number One Observatory Circle, the official residence of the Vice president.
When he got home he was greeted by Laura and Percy who had been staying with them for a while.
Alex greeted them with a tired smile (Hi guys! How are you all doing?! Have you spoken to papa yet?)
After catching up and having dinner Alex and Laura watched some tv and then it was bedtime. When Laura hade been put to sleep both Alex and Percy thought a drink was in order.
Percy pov: So Nora is heading out of the country? You’ll be in the big chair for a week huh?
Alex pov: Yeah hehe, but I’m not moving in to the oval office if that’s what you think. Ill just work through with this new initiative and oversee the floor vote tomorrow, being the vice president.
I chuckled at that it was still so unreal. (Me being here doing what I do. But I loved it, to really be helping people on a grand scale. The phone rang and I checked, it was Henry back in London. Odd he wouldn’t usually call now it was middle of the night.)
(On the phone)
Henry pov: Hey babe, i couldn’t sleep so I thought i´d call you.
Alex pov: HI! I´m sitting here with Percy just taking a drink after a long day, o I’m sorry its just two weeks until we get there and well be together again.
Henry pov: Im not feeling that well actually. Having a bit of nausea and I’ve been throwing up. To be honest with you I hope this stomach bug will pass soon.
As Alex listened to Henry he wondered back in memories. Before the life he lead now. Then all of this happened, this crazy life I think this is the best way for me to make an impact on both the US and show the world the best of what we can be.
Alex pov: (Babe maybe you should by a pregnancy test just be sure. This sounds just like when I was pregnant with Laura but I’m not sure. We are just about to go to bed now can I call you tomorrow?)
Henry pov: I was thinking about what Alex said and he might be right. Ill have to buy a test even if its negative, I can ask Shaan. (Baby?I will ask Shaan to get a test for me even if its negative then well know, I will call you tomorrow good night I love you.)
As the night lovers its vail over the American capitol. The president is escorted to Andrews airforce base and bords one of the specially equipped Boeing 747s.
They take off, destination Jerusalem. A flight of over ten hours, the first part of the flight president Nora Holleran slept but made sure to be awake for the later leg of the flight preparing with her traveling staff.
When they arrive they’re welcomed by the prime minister of Israel Sarah David. Thats what they thought would happen but are anyone ever that lucky?
No, this time the president really wasn’t that lucky. As they where going in for landing the flaps malfunctioned and the plane crashed.
Nora woke up and went to the bathroom before the last briefing before we landed. As I was coming out of the bathroom the plane started to shake, this can’t be good.
As the plane descended something went wrong with the flaps and we crashed. Crashing in this part of the world and being the American president is very dangerous.
We where out in the dessert and I knew that there where radicles and they would kill me in a second if they found us. After the crash-landing me and those of the entourage who’d survived.
Three secret service agents as well as the deputy secretary of veterans affairs and the secretary of State. We got to the weapons onboard the plane and armed ourselves, as were where running from the plane it caught fire and exploded in a huge fireball. Now we really where alone.
At the Number One Observatory Circle:
Vice president Alex Clermont Diaz slept peacefully in his big bed, unknowing to him his best friend and president where in mortal danger. The secret service hade been made aware of the situation and quickly rushed to the vice president.
Alex was woken by his agents (Ok OK I'm awake! What is it Justin?) (You need to wake up sir. Air force one has crashed going in for landing in Israel. The president is missing and you are needed at the White House.)
O holy shit, Nora might be dead! No I can’t think like that ok call Henry get Percy to stay with Laura and then go to work.
(Percy can you stay with Laura? I need to get to The White House there’s a situation with the president. I can’t tell you more I wish I could but.)
Percy was quick and even though the bright light from the hallway blinded his eyes when he looked out from his bedroom he understood everything.( I’m staying with Laura no problem.) (She will be staying at home for now) Alex instructed.
When they arrived at the white house Alex was greeted by Zarah and a big group of staffers and agents, as well as the chief justice of the supreme court. They wanted to do the oath of office, now?! (Zarah, we are not doing the oath of office right now we need to focus on the rescue.)
When he enters the cabinet room all the members of the cabinet that hade stayed in DC rose to greet me. (Let’s sit everyone, what do we know?)
The deputy secretary of defence Helena Williams cleared her throat and started her run-through of what they knew. (As you know mr Vice-president air force one left for Jerusalem 00:30 hrs yesterday. On their approach to land they reported difficulties with the flaps and they crashed on the way towards Jerusalem, near Ashkelon close to the Gaza Strip. I don’t think we need to guess how dangerous this situation is for the president. We need to take action now.
We already have the 6th fleet in the Mediterranean Sea so we could quickly have planes and choppers in the air sir.) Alex looked around the room (Adam we need to go out with a press statement about this and probably soon.)
(I need you and a speechwriting team to get going on a speech that I can deliver to the press in at most two hours.) Adam looked at him with that same dedication hes seen so many times before but then directed at Nora.)
(Yes sir ill get cracking on this right away ill call Zarah with an update and first draft in around 45 minutes. Anything special you had in mind or just clean and to the point? ”This is what we know and we ask for your support and prayers" or something like that?) (Yeah start with something like that and I review when I have the draft Alex said.)
(Zarah! Ill need some coffee to get going, then I want the Israeli Prime minster on the phone as soon as possible and I want the joint chiefs of staff of staff here pronto. We need to inform her that we’ll need her help and that we need to put troops on the ground and in the air.)
As Zarah took down notes she reminded herself that this isn’t Alex Claremont Diaz, who made an ass out of himself at the royal wedding. No this is Vice president Clermont Diaz giving her a direct order in the middle of a crisis.
(Yes Mr Vice president. Ill get the Israeli PM on the line in just a second and there will be other middle eastern as well a European leaders to connect with. But I agree she is the most important one right now. May I suggest both the Secretary General of NATO and the UN? Even if we don’t have time for a coalition we’ll need other countries to agree with us especially in the UN general assembly when we propose a resolution.)
(Before Alex could answer her his personal assistant Scott approached, and informed him that the remaning of the Cabinet had sign the document and with his own signature on the dotted line he’d be acting President.)
