Chapter Text
Hoseok couldn’t believe his eyes. Passing through the shopping district, he happened upon a raffle giving away an all-expense paid trip to some ski resort. Hoseok half-mindedly decided to give it a try thinking he’d just end up, at most, with a bronze prize. To his surprise, the golden ball dropped out of the tumbling cage and the man rang the bell. It took him a moment to process that he just won. Staring at the ball with intensity, trying to make sure he wasn’t seeing the wrong color.
“This can’t be happening…” he said with disbelief as he gasped. He ran his fingers through his hair, taken aback by the circumstances. What were the odds that he’d actually win? And he had won. It wasn’t some illusion or a daydream.
“I did it!” He exclaimed as he accepted the luck thrust upon it.
“Congratulations,” The elderly man ringing the bell handed over a clipboard to Hoseok for him to sign with his name and information, explaining the process of how things would go if he accepted the prize.
This wasn’t anything Hoseok wanted to turn down, but hearing that it was a prize for two. He struggled to think of just who to bring along with him. Hoseok had many friends, but most were already off spending time with their sweethearts. He could invite Seokjin. The elder man always wanted to go skiing, but he tended to be busy this time of year.
“It couldn’t hurt to try,” Hoseok said, calling his friend. Seokjin picked over the second ring. Hoseok spoke with him about the prize and asked if he’d be interested in joining. Unfortunately, the response was his typical one.
“Sorry, Hoseok, but I won’t be able to go,” Seokjin sighed. Hoseok could hear the slight disappointment in Jin's voice. After hearing Hoseok was going skiing, Seokjin wanted more than anything to jump at the opportunity, but he couldn't neglect his work. Not without repercussions. Hoseok thought about pushing the dates back. He was given some flexibility to choose when he was available. He just had to make sure that the people running the raffle knew which dates to set until he heard Seokjin slam his hand against his desk.
“I have an idea. I may know someone with some free time on their hands. He could use a vacation too, works too damn hard,” Seokjin began to ramble off making Hoseok confused.
He hummed trying to think of the people that Jin usually hung around. Their friend group was pretty linked and he couldn't imagine Seokjin knowing someone that he didn't, “You’re not just speaking about Jungkook are you?” Hoseok made a slight guess.
“Not him. I don’t think I’ve introduced you two yet, but his name is Namjoon. I’ll give you his number and you can call him and ask,” Seokjin suggested.
“Wouldn’t that be awkward? I mean I’m asking him to go on a trip with a complete stranger,” Hoseok didn’t mind meeting new people, but going on a trip out of the country. He wasn’t sure he could do that. And this friend of Jin’s would probably be uncomfortable with the idea too.
“You’re right…I should talk to him first and then you should call him.”
“Jin, thank you, but I think I’ll look for someone else,” Hoseok tried to stop his friend, but it was too late. Seokjin had already called Namjoon and given him a heads-up.
Hoseok hesitated before calling, “It couldn’t hurt.” He tried to persuade himself. This guy was a friend of Seokjin and he kept good company. Hoseok never met anyone that Jin knew that he didn’t like.
“Hello.” Hoseok’s breath hitched when he heard Namjoon’s voice.
“Um, hello there. This is Hoseok, Seokjin’s friend. I assumed he already called you to explain,” he started nervously.
“Yes, though, are you okay with this? I’ve known Seokjin for a while and he can be a tad…well you probably already know since you’re his friend too,” Namjoon said. “I just don’t want to intrude on your trip and make you uncomfortable.”
“No, no it’s fine,” Hoseok suddenly couldn’t bring himself to turn Namjoon down. He cursed Jin for setting him up like this. “Once I have everything, I’ll email you the itinerary.”
“Itinerary?”
“Yes, we have some things we can choose to change around, but we’ll mostly be following their plans. Other than skiing, there’s also a spa involved, dining at some great restaurant, some gondola gallery, and we have tickets to a show at the performing arts center,” Hoseok explained.
There was silence on the other end and for a while Hoseok was afraid that Namjoon decided to hang up. “Do you know what kind of show?”
“Huh…uh…it’s a ballet performance, but they have other shows that we can choose if you’re interested. There are all sorts of concerts and plays that they are showing. If you want, I can send you everything that they have and you can choose if you want?” Hoseok offered.
“Would that be alright? It’s your trip after all,” Namjoon asked shyly.
“It’s fine. I’m dragging you along. Might as well make sure there’s something for you too.” Hoseok said. He figured that Namjoon was interested in a few of the activities he listed and wanted to allow him to make suggestions. “I’ll make sure to get your preferences as well.”
“May I visit you then? It might be better planning in person, plus I think it would be less of a surprise when we meet at the airport,” Namjoon sounded nervous.
Hoseok on the other hand hadn’t thought of that. Namjoon could be more prepared this way and avoid possible hours of searching for one another the day of, since he didn't even know what Namjoon looked like yet, “That’s a great idea. I’ll give you my address. I’ll be available this weekend if you want to come over then.”
“Great, I’ll meet you then. I have to go back now, but I’ll call you back to let you know when I’ll stop by.”
“See you later.” Hoseok hung up the phone. That had gone better than what he initially expected. Seokjin’s friend sounded like a decent guy, someone he could get along with. The only thing he was worried about was being too awkward in front of him.
Hoseok headed home for the day. He was tired but in a good way. Many things happened and never had he believed his life could be filled with so much spontaneity. He managed to a raffle for a much wanted trip and he was meeting someone new. Hoseok wondered if this counted as a winter miracle. Hopefully, his luck would stay strong throughout the month.
