Love and Angel Wings

Summary:

Eri and Kōta are fledgling angels trying to earn their wings. If they can grant the wish of a human, they will earn them. When they meet the head angel, All Might, he gives him their final rookie assignment: a young man named Midoriya Izuku, who wishes that he was not alone for the holidays.

Kōta thinks he’s found the perfect person for Izuku: Bakugō Katsuki, Izuku's neighbor! Eri is skeptical: Katsuki is grumpy and kind of mean, but Kōta insists they are a perfect match!

But of course things don't always go as planned; will Eri and Kōta be able to make Izuku's wish come true, after all?

Notes:

Hello everyone! I hope that all is well, and if you celebrate, we wish you peace and joy this holiday season 🌟

This story is a little something that kalcia and I cooked up as part of a special promotion for No Me Without You, a BKDKBK AU zine that we are both so happy to be a part of. In its original form, we released one chapter a day over 12 days, and each chapter also included an interactive poll for readers to decide what would come next. We're very glad to bring this story to Ao3, where we can include kalcia's beautiful art with the story!

A special thank you to the mods at No Me Without You for all of their support as we worked on this, and an extra-special thanks to gabstar, who helped us brainstorm and was an incredible beta. The turnaround time on this was FAST, and gabs read just about every chapter before it was posted live. We are so grateful to her for all of her help!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“So what assignment do you think we will get?” Eri asked Kōta excitedly as they waited in line. She couldn’t stop bouncing up and down. Imagine! One more assignment, and she and Kōta would become full-fledged angels! They’d been working so hard, and now their goal was so close! Eri couldn’t wait!

“Probably something stupid,” Kōta grumbled, “like save a kitten from a tree.”

“Kittens aren’t stupid, Kōta!” Eri chided him. “Kittens are cute!”

“But that’s a stupid assignment,” Kōta shot back. “And easy.”

“So you don’t want an easy assignment?” Eri asked. “So we can get our wings and be done with it?”

“Of course not!” Kōta exclaimed. “I wanna be challenged! Make it feel like we earned it, you know?”

Eri frowned. She did know. But Kōta was always like that, always wanting the hardest assignments, always getting Eri in over her head. Like the last time, when he wanted to help that nice young man reunite with his father, only to find out that the dad was kinda crappy, and the young man didn’t even want to reunite with his dad, but instead wanted to just be left alone and eat his cold soba? Crazy! Or the time when he thought that he could single-handedly save all the stray dogs in Tokyo? Or the time when…

“Eri, Kōta!” The voice of All Might, the head archangel, made Eri stand up straight. Kōta grabbed her by the hand and tugged her along, Eri stumbling after him.

What would All Might say? What assignment would they get? What…

“Hello, you two.” The archangel All Might looked down on them with a kind smile, his voice deep and booming. “Are you ready to receive your last assignment as rookies?”

Eri and Kōta looked at each other, and when Kōta grinned at her, Eri couldn’t help but smile back. “You bet we are, All Might!” Kōta shouted. “I hope you’ve got a real killer assignment for us!”

All Might’s smile widened. “I did choose this one just for you two,” he replied, and handed Kōta a small disc. Kōta and Eri looked at each other, and Kōta held the disc flat on his palm. A light flashed from it, and Kōta and Eri heard a soft, gentle voice coming from the hologram, which shimmered slowly into a figure:

A short, muscular young man with shockingly green, curly hair and equally stunning green eyes, appeared before them. He was staring into space; but then, he appeared to be looking down at something.

“I wish,” the young man was saying, “I wish…”

Kōta and Eri leaned forward. What was he wishing for?

“I wish…” the young man said again, “that I wouldn’t have to be alone during the holidays.”

The hologram before them faded, and Eri and Kōta looked up from the disc and at each other.

“He wishes…” Kōta said.

“To not be alone…” Eri said.

“For the holidays?!” They said together.

All Might chuckled. “That’s right,” he informed them. “Your final rookie assignment is to help this young man find his true love for the holidays.” He smiled. “And it starts…” He snapped his fingers.

“Now.”

Eri felt her body shifting in time and space. She reached out and grabbed Kōta. Where was All Might sending them?
