“Stop moving-“ Devon muttered, trying to get the tiny needle lined up with the dot he had put on Kelsey’s nose. The blond-haired boy kept squirming, making it hard to keep the position of the needle accurate. “I can’t keep this straight if you won’t stay still.” He then said, his tone getting a lot more soft and gentle. This seemed to soothe Kelsey’s nerves a bit.
“Will you count down?” He pretty much whispered. He had done this so many times before, but he still had that anxious feeling in his stomach. At least Devon was doing it.
“Mhm. If it helps, I’ll count down for you.” Kelsey just hummed appreciatively in response. Devon smiled a bit at that. “Okay. I think it’s good. Don’t move, mkay? I’ll do it nice and quick.” Kelsey nodded, already squeezing his eyes shut right. “Ready?.. 3. 2. 1.”
“Ah-“ Kelsey winced. At least it was already over. He opened one of his eyes.
“See. Nice and easy. And it’s all finished.” Devon grinned, rubbing Kelsey’s shoulder, who just leaned into it. “You did good. That wasn’t hard, hey?”
“I never wanna do that again.” Kelsey lied. He already knew it was a matter of time before the cycle repeated and he would do this all again. Devon grinned again and planted a little kiss on his forehead, trying to be comforting again.
“We both know that’s a lie.”
“Yeah. It is.”
Kelsey sighed, turning on the little rickety stool to look at his reflection. Devon did that same.
“20 minutes, right?” Kelsey asked. He already knew that’s how long he had to wait, but he still felt the need to ask.
“Uh huh. And then we can put the ring in.” Devon nodded, smiling. He gently and cautiously put his arms around Kelsey’s shoulder. The other boy reciprocated, leaning back into the embrace. Kelsey felt all that tension immediately fall away. The hard part was already over with, there was no need anymore. Devon’s hand tenderly rubbing his shoulder helped too.
“I swear, this always feels like the longest 20 minutes ever.”
