Water Off A Squid’s Back

Summary:

It’s raining pretty badly outside, and Wiggly decides to be a stubborn bitch and step out into the pouring world. Blinky warns him against it, but… hey: if anything happens to him because he didn’t listen to his advice, it’s not his responsibility, is it?

(Marker’s Seven-Sided Die Challenge #1 - Prompt 4/14: Drabble)

Notes:

Call me Marker the Hedgehog, because I write faster than the speed of sound.

(For those unaware: I think I posted this about… 45 minutes after posting Uncharted Waters? That’s just a rough estimate, though.)

So let’s get right into the incredibly short action: this fic’s prompt is Drabble, and I decided to take that very literally and challenge myself to make it exactly 100 words long as specified in the dictionary.

Ready, set, go!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“You seriously don’t think this is a good idea.”

“Yes, I do.”

“Well, go ahead then.” Blinky said, gesturing towards the door. “If you want to go out in that storm, be my guest, but-“

Wiggly closed the door without a second thought. His brother didn’t feel sympathetic in the slightest. Though, it could be worse. At least he brought an umbrella, right?

Five minutes later, Blinky was waiting in the living room, just… existing, when the door slammed open.

Wiggly had returned, was absolutely caked in mud for some reason, and looked goddamn terrified of opening that door again.

Notes:

For context because I both love and resent this with all of my heart, and notes don’t count towards the overall length of the fic:

Wiggly actually has HORRIBLE self-hygiene (the coral on his spine doesn’t count) and whenever he thinks he’s dirty in any way he just wards it off by taking a bath. He’s banned from taking a bath at Holloway’s because he insists on keeping his clothes on each time because it would be “too cold” if he didn’t (and refuses to just take a warm bath because “then it would be too hot”) so the pouring rain of a cloudy November morning was the closest he could get.

Also, if you’re wondering where I got the idea from: the word “drabble” doesn’t just mean a 100-word piece of literature. It also means to be covered in mud.

Anyways, the next prompt is Rivalry, which I am going to be able to pull of VERY well with the Lords in Black! I’ll see you then!
