Excuse me, what did you say?!

Summary:

The GiW defeated, Task Force GRIIN studies ghosts in a scientific manner with the Fentons.

The federal government works to help the victims of the GiW.

When a sense of normalcy comes over the town and the rest of the nation, reality rears its ugly head when a radioactive explosion is detected by US Military satellites...

Work Text:

Task Force GRIIN was pretty much transferred to control of Fenton Works once the GiW was disbanded; the primary military mission was complete, and the military personnel on the task force were given the option to either stay or go back to their former bases they had been called from.

Unsurprisingly, most of the military staff elected to stay, with only a few choosing to go back to their home bases.

Major Green was one of those who had to leave unfortunately, given he had been a missile silo commander and was needed back at his assigned silo. The task force commander was looking over the missile in the silo, checking its systems when the phone rang. Glancing over, the major raised an eyebrow. 'Why does this seem so familiar?' He walked over, but only after waving over a lieutenant to take over the maintenance. Major Green reached down and picked up the phone, answering the call. "Who is this?" He asked in his deep baritone voice.

For a moment, the major was half-expecting the voice of the now former Agent K to come on the line, stating his code name and who he had been working for. Thankfully though, that was not the case.

"Major Green off the 564th Missile Wing?" A higher-ranked officer asked.

"Yes..." Major Green replied warily. "What of it?"

"Were you the commander of Task Force GRIIN?" The officer continued to ask.

"Actually, I am the commander. Why do you ask?" Major Green replied, getting uneasy. 'Is this the GiW all over again?'

"We've picked up an unusually powerful explosion from somewhere in Europe, most likely France. Did you get a call to launch?" The officer asked.

Major Green felt his heart leap into his throat. "I can assure you with absolute certainty this silo still has its missile intact and inside, sir."

"I see. Then this confirms the explosion wasn't caused by one of our missiles." The officer noted, surprising the major.

"Then... what could have caused it? And who was behind it?" Major Green asked.

"That, Major, is under investigation currently." The officer replied. "But some crazy group is claiming to be responsible."

Major Green stared. "Really..."

"Yes, and they claim to be part of a larger group." The higher-ranked officer replied.

The major felt his left eye twitching as he took in this information. "Some... unknown group was behind the explosion in France...?"

"As far as we can tell, yes." The officer replied. "They claim to be trying to purge the world of some supernatural creatures and their evil, vile influence."

Major Green's eye twitch became even more pronounced. "Sounds like a real group of loonies that escaped the nuthouse..."

"And this is coming from someone who took down the Guys in White?" The officer countered.

"... Point taken..." Major Green conceded.

"You see why the President asked for you specifically to be informed of this?" The officer asked.

Major green sighed. "Tell her I will be heading back to Amity Park to inform the rest of the task force of what had transpired."

"We await your response." The officer said before the line went dark.

"Oh boy..." Major Green sighed to himself. "Here we go again..."

A few hours later, at Amity Park, Major Green had arrived to speak to the assembled task force members. "I'm sure most of you are surprised to see me back so soon." He said with a slight chuckle. "But rest assured, I am not here for some mere visit."

"Then why are you back here, sir?" Master Sergeant Dante asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, people... this is what is happening..." Major Green began.

He then looked up at the assembled team. "Recently, an explosion was detected in the country of France, near Paris to be exact. Only... this explosion had some radioactive readings detected by some of our military's sensors."

"Excuse me, what did you say?!" 2nd Lt. Brandon Charles asked in disbelief.

"Wait... was it an ICBM that was used?!" Another task force member exclaimed in shock.

"No." Major Green replied. "It wasn't even close to the caliber of one of those. It was more along the lines of an IED or small scale, homemade nuclear device."

"Someone used a dirty bomb then?" Master Sergeant Dante asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes." Major Green confirmed. "It would appear so."

"But why?" 2nd Lt. Charles demanded. "I thought we dealt with the Guys in White already!"

"We did." Major Green replied. "This is someone totally different."

Master Sergeant Dante snorted. "Who would be crazier than those nutjobs?"

"Someone who thinks there are other supernatural creatures around." Major Green grumbled. "These guys we are calling the Jocks in Brown due to their real name being unmentioned."

"JiB?" 2nd Lt. Charles grunted. "That's an unoriginal name."

"Well, what else are we going to call them?" Major Green retorted. "Anyway, on topic, looking into the police report files of the bomb and these men in brown suits, there is very little to go on, except the JiB seems to be technically skilled enough to create a homemade dirty bomb."

"Do we know what entities this JiB hunts down?" Another member of Task Force GRIIN asked.

Major Green sighed. "Sadly, that is unknown as of right now, but the CIA and NSA are looking into it. They have agreed to report any findings to the task force should they hit paydirt."

"Great... Now we have to deal with more nutjobs and more supernatural entities..." Master Sergeant Dante grumbled. "And I thought the ghosts were the only ones we had to deal with."

"All of us thought that." 2nd Lt. Charles grumbled in agreement.

Major Green looked back up at the main task force members all in front of him. "As much as I would like to stay out of this, we are the ones who were tapped to find out what is going on with this JiB group. We need to find out what they are hunting down, and how the humans in those areas are being seen/affected by the JiB group."

"I do have one question." A random member of the task force asked.

"Yes?" Major Green asked.

"What is it with these nutjob groups hunting down supernatural entities using nuclear weapons to attempt elimination?" The woman asked incredulously. "It's like they expect the nukes to remove the perceived threat in question without harming anything or anyone around them."

2nd Lt. Charles snorted. "That's very flawed science right there."

"Indeed." Major Green agreed with a grunt. "The sheer temperatures of a nuclear device going off can incinerate anything organic or inorganic, depending on the temperature that the substance in question can withstand. And that's not getting into the fact that the elements used to explode such devices give off radiation that can harm any living lifeform within the detonation radius. And that is just nuclear fission. Nuclear fusion is a whole different can of worms when it comes to possible environmental damage, and I don't want to delve into it in detail."

Many murmurs from the assembled task force members could be heard, most being in agreement with the major's words; he had worked in the missile silo the GiW had called after all, and he obviously knew his stuff due to working with nuclear missiles.

"So, who is going to investigate this attempted attack?" Master Sergeant Dante asked.

"As of right now, Task Force GRIIN is on standby, but when we get more information from the CIA and NSA, we will be able to make a decision on who goes to look into this incident." Major Green replied.

The task force members nodded, not entirely sure what would await them. But it seemed they had a new mission, and one that was off just as much importance as taking down the GiW.

"So, new supernatural entities may be at risk of attack?" Maddie Fenton asked as Major Green had finished explaining the situation to her and her husband Jack Fenton; the major had gone to Fenton Works personally to tell the now world-famous ecto-scientists of what was going on.

"Yes." Major Green replied. "I hate to admit it, but the world is changing, and in ways we don't fully understand. The ghosts were one thing, and that is your area of expertise. This however... it's well outside your main field of study. I doubt you would be of much help in the field, no offense of course."

Jack chuckled. "None taken. You're right in that we specialize in the ectoplasmic entities; organic supernatural entities are of a different species entirely, so our research would be very limited in what it can provide to you."

Major Green raised an eyebrow. "Organic supernatural entities?"

"Things like werewolves, vampires, fairies, mermaids... That kind of stuff." Maddie explained. "If ghosts can exist, why can't those kinds of entities?"

Major Green looked down in thought. "And if these entities are organic, they can blend in better with humans, making the hunt for them much more difficult. That's why these JiB members used a dirty bomb; the radiation would force them to move, possibly exposing themselves."

"Major..." Jack began, making the task force commander look back at him. "If... If this is a situation like the Guys in White... what will happen?"

Major Green sighed. "I have no idea to be honest." He admitted. "All we can do right now is make a plan in how we approach this from an investigative standpoint, and if it comes to taking military action, we will have to refer to the United Nations on what to do."

Jack and Maddie nodded, hoping things wouldn't come to that...
