Work Text:
Soulmates are weird, and not that well understood. To be soulmates means that you end up together in every possible universe; they are the only thing that remains consistent in existence. The reason this phenomenon is elusive is because less than 20% of the population reportedly have soulmates, and soulmate marks are inconsistent and unpredictable. Some report that it is merely a deep “spiritual level” feeling that bursts through their being when making eye-contact, while others are born with each other’s names as tattoos on their bodies. It is uncertain whether all possible soulmate marks have been documented at all. It is truly ironic.
So, imagine Sky’s surprise when he ends up being one of the rare few to end up with one.
It was a warm night, and Rain running into a dangerous situation away from him made only made it worse. As Sky walks deeper into the crowd of people at the race, the hotter he became. He felt himself burning up as he looked around, suffering from intense anxiety and fear. He was terrified of reliving his past, he was terrified about losing Rain, and he kept on burning hotter when he saw Phayu drag Rain away. He was about to lose his mind from the heat, but then he locked eyes with another person. He looked at Prapai and suddenly ran cold, feeling like he lost his breath along with the heat. However, as Prapai stepped closer to him the heat started to rise again, and when they kissed, he felt like there were fireworks going off in the chambers of his soul. That night, Sky had felt the heat of heaven’s sun but misunderstood and thought it was hell. He had been burned before and, thus, decided to become cold. What he didn’t understand, though, was that not all fires are a result of arson.
--
Prapai knew something was happening, he had this weird inkling. It felt like something was scratching inside his brain and he couldn’t shake it off, he just felt weird. The whole day he felt simultaneously hot and cold; he felt like that moment where a hot body jumps into icy waters, and it was only when he saw Sky that he understood. He saw the light at the end of the stairway to heaven and was hellbent on climbing it. As he held Sky closely, cupping his face and kissing his lips, he felt the heat move to his cheeks and his chest as it burst throughout his body like he was a piece of flint that quickly caught a flame. He knew, and he was ecstatic.
--
As Sky was leaving, he felt himself getting colder. The heat seeped from his body and he felt dull, yet his pinky finger on his left hand still felt like it was scorching; he was a match stick and his pinky the flammable tip. It never left his mind, he couldn’t get it to. He would lie awake at night wracking his brain for answers but he refused to believe that the universe would favour him enough to allow him a soulmate. It hadn’t been particularly kind thus far, after all. He thought he was too undesirable, boring, to ever be part of something so rare and so interesting as the concept of a soulmate. How would you even know anyway? He thought he was lucky once, and he learned his lesson. He felt his heart beat under freezing temperature, but goddammit, why the fuck did it feel like he’s slow roasting his pinky or something?! Huffing, Sky turned on his side, pinched his nose and answered his phone.
--
Prapai had felt dull after Sky left, but when he heard Sky’s voice on the other side of the call, he felt like he was holding his ear to a fire. He a marshmallow in a smore, but it was Sky’s voice that was sweet. He knew, and there was no doubt, that Sky was his soulmate. He imagined himself loving him, of seeing him at the end of the work day and kissing him hello. He imagined himself holding his hand and bringing it up to his lips to kiss his each of his fingers individually, lingering on where he would knew Sky’s ring would be. He imagined himself lying down together, intertwined, stroking Sky’s arms and kissing his shoulders. He imagined himself looking into Sky’s eyes and falling in love over and over as he had done in every other universe. He imagined himself meeting Sky again, and he was determined to make it happen as soon as possible.
--
Sky saw Prapai standing by the entrance of his apartment building and he felt the flame in his pinky travel up his arm and into his chest. He didn’t like this feeling, and he did his damned best to stomp that spark out, but it was useless. He looked at Prapai, and it didn't matter how hard he’s trampling on that fire, his body would never stop burning. As he continued spending time with Prapai, the sharp heat he feared became a warm glow he loved. He became so overwhelmed with heat he ripped his shirt off and grabbed Prapai’s face to kiss him. He didn’t want to let go; he held onto Prapai’s shoulders, his neck, his hair and his cheeks. He loved this feeling, he didn’t want to let it go, and he was running on a high. He wanted Prapai to be his, but demanded him to lose interest. He was boring, he shouldn’t forget that. Prapai spoke Sky’s name and he felt content. Then Prapai asked him about his favourites, and suddenly he didn’t feel so boring anymore. So, he linked his pinky with Prapai’s and let himself be engulfed.
He knew it was too good to be true, though. He wasn’t enough, and when he saw someone else’s arms around Prapai, his pinky ached. This time with pain.
--
Prapai was cold with fear but his tears burned hot. He felt blind when he couldn’t see Sky and he was losing his mind. It drove him insane and he had no choice but to break into Sky’s apartment. He knew his breath was hot but his lungs felt cold. If he didn’t see Sky he would develop hypothermia, he was certain about it. But then he found the notebook, and his body temperature slowly began to rise. Then he saw Sky, and he felt okay again. Then he held Sky, told him that he loved him, kissed his forehead and he felt as if he took a big gulp of tea. Relaxing his body, and sighed while closing his eyes. When he opened his eyes, however, he was met with a not-so-surprising surprise.
--
Sky lost himself when he saw Prapai in his living room, but then found himself again in Prapai’s arms. He loved Prapai, and he knew because his body was warm again. His chest was warm, and his cheeks burned, too, as he blushed. He ended up laying on top of Prapai, only further nurturing the fire between them. He didn’t think about anything except them, and the softness of Prapai’s touch against his skin as Prapai slowly strokes his fingers up and down Sky’s left arm. Sky stared at Prapai's hand as he slowly dragged his fingers down Sky’s arm and softly takes Sky’s hand in his. Prapai bring his hand up to his mouth and gently presses his lips against it, softly kissing each finger individually. When Prapai kisses Sky’s pinky finger, it glows a bright red as a red string suddenly appear around both of their hands, as if tying them together.
