Katniss’ POV
Katniss had been terrified as she went to the reaping, her first reaping , but when it started she spotted a little girl following the Escort for District 12, she didn’t mostly look like a Capitol child. The little girl was small and skinny, had platinum blonde hair in a pair of pigtails, and grey eyes. She reminded Katniss of someone but couldn’t quite place who.
”Welcome! Welcome, welcome. Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be in your favor. Now before we begin, I would like to present myself and a few people” announced the escort for District 12 for the past 8 years, Effie Trinket, she wore a bright yellow dress that slightly resembled a bunch of bathroom loofahs and a matching wig. Effie reached behind her and pulled out a small arm where a little girl came out, the little girl wore all black clothing except for a white dress shirt under a knitted vest, to Katniss she looked like a little crow “This is Lee, she will be my apprentice from now on. How old are you dear?” Effie asked crouching down to Lee’s level. Katniss felt a strange pang of jealousy, Effie looked so caring towards the little girl, so different from Katniss’ mother who had basically emotionality abandoned her and her sister. Lee looked up to the teens and children watching them, she looked like she was going to cry, but slowly pulled a smile and raised her hand up with all her fingers out “I’m turning Five in August, that’s in a month!” She answered, her voice high pitched and with a lisp because of the two missing front teeth.
Effie cooed at Lee saying that she did a good job, when she started naming the list of Victors of District 12, the two Victors ever. Haymitch Abernathy was the only living one, he was an Alcoholic, everyone in all of Panem knew that. Lee flapped her arms once Haymitch was announced. She definitely was like a little Crow.
Even if he was drunk he seemed less than he usually was, waving at Lee and Effie as he stumbled onto the platform, Lee ran towards him and clung to his leg as if to hug him. Effie quickly took the little girl back to her side and announced that the reaping would begin.
Ruby Moore, 14, and Tye Picker, 16, were picked from the reaping that year.
Katness doesn’t remember much about those games, Ruby was killed in the blood bath and Tye was killed by a career. All she knew was that Annie Cresta from District 4 had won after they flooded her arena.
The only thing that would stick to her was the little girl that looked like a Crow, as she would see her grow through every reaping.
