Work Text:
Aaron wakes up to Sam crying.
He doesn’t really understand why, and at first he doesn’t move to comfort him.
It was muscle memory, at this point.
Aaron only has 10 fingers, and they aren’t enough to count how many times he has woken up to this exact scene.
He had never been able to muster up enough courage to comfort him. Which seems stupid considering he was an FBI agent. A profiler at that. It was just…
Sam cries so silently.
It was obvious that he was trying to hide it. Added to the fact he always cried at night; Aaron didn’t wanna ruin it for him.
He knows how bad the days have been for Sam. No matter how many times Dean has told him to ignore it, that Sam never liked others knowing that he was at his weakest, Aaron couldn’t help it.
He had honed himself to see the tiniest of details. That skill wasn’t a thing he could turn off. So no matter the fact that he wanted to let Sam wallow in his privacy, he was unable to.
At least that’s what he tells himself.
Aaron is no idiot.
Seeing the tiniest of details was apart of his job. It wasn’t easy to stop, but he has done so many times. At least when he was with Haley, and Jack. They were always bothered when he would point things out that they wanted to keep to themselves. So he had tried, for them.
So – it was different for Sam. Why?
Simple. “You’re awake.” He was madly in love with Sam Winchester.
”How’d you figure that out?” Aaron turned over, carefully searching Sam’s face, but not saying anything else.
Sam wrung his fingers together.
“You don’t move much when you sleep. So when I saw you shifting, I could tell.”
Aaron hums. “Do you wanna talk about it?”
For a moment, Sam stays quiet. Just watching Aaron from across the room, to the bed where he comfortably slept. Aaron watches as he stares at his lap, noticing the state of chaos his own bed was in.
”…” Sam looks up. “Can I sleep in your bed tonight?”
