We Can Punish Emotion, But Then We'd Get Nowhere. Let's Try Something New.

Summary:

Soul decides that after an argument, he punishes Mind instead of Heart.

And boy, does it get pretty... Not good.

Work Text:

(I'M NOT SELFISH! I DO MY BEST!)

[Simply illogical. You do not 'do your best'. There is no 'best'. You only do your worst. You are horrible. You are a nuisance.]

(YEAH? WELL YOU'RE A... YOU'RE A FUCKING...)

[Can't think of anything? Aweeeeeee.]

(I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU!)

[Silence yourself. You're beginning to annoy me.]

(FUCK YOU! I HATE YOU!)

Most fights started over nothing. Usually it'd be Heart that started and escalated the situation, but this time, Mind was the one to make it worse.

Soul had already been on his way to Mind's room, hearing the commotion and heading down the moment it started.

Unfortunately, he was a tad bit too late.

As he walked in, a loud slap echoed through the room. Mind had used a large amount of force to drive his robotic fist into Heart's face, causing him to let out a loud whimper of pain.

As soon as he hit the ground, he looked at Mind, covering his now purple cheek, almost in a state of disbelief. Then, of course, he began crying.

Mind cracked his knuckles, proud of himself. That is, until he felt something jab into his side.

{How pathetic. Come here, Artemis.}

Heart immediately latched onto Soul, wiping his tears off on his shirt.

[Of course. Taking his side, or at least, making him think you are. He started it, Atlas. Just get this over with so I can charge.]

Soul looked at Mind, absolutely outraged. He summoned his trident, standing up and hugging Heart softly.

{Go to your room. I'll talk to you later.}

(T-Thank you...)

Mind seemed confused. He was not the one being punished, was he? Illogical. Heart started it. Heart always started it.

[Just let me charge. I'm exhausted. His face felt like a load of bricks against my hand.]

Soul slashed Mind's chest with his trident, leaving him confused and now, seemingly frightened.

[W-What are you...]

{I'm so sick of this, Apollo. You keep starting these pathetic arguments with Artemis.}

[But I... It's not me...]

{Of course it's not. It's always emotion. Because you're the logical one. You're fucking pathetic. What do you think you gain from punching him like that?}

[I-I don't understand...]

Soul jabbed the trident into his chest, watching as the blood that slowly dripped out of the wound glew to accommodate the trident.

{WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?}

[I-IT'S NOT MY FAULT! HE STARTED IT!]

Soul pushed his trident deeper. He noticed that Mind, the logic and thought, was now feeling emotion. He was genuinely scared. He used to tell Heart all the time that crying especially was a weak way to show emotion.

But now he could use this against him.

{Awe, is Logic crying? How adorable. You're weak.}

[N-No... My eyes are watering... That's all.]

Soul crouched to meet eye-to-eye with Mind, immediately wrapping his hand around Mind's neck and squeezing as hard as he could.

Mind struggled, starting to try and kick Soul away.

{You're so fucking pathetic. You're worthless. None of us need you, Apollo.}

[S-Star-...]

{Don't ever call me that. You've lost such privilege.}

Mind did indeed begin crying after a while, unsure of what to do and scared that his life was going to be taken from him.

A loud beep came from his computer, the small pixelated character nervously trying to alert Mind that not only did he need to charge, but his neck was in critical condition.

Soul had unknowingly began digging his fingers into Mind's neck.

With a loud crack, his fingers suddenly dug into his flesh and blood spurted onto his fingers. Mind sobbed, trying his best to get Soul away from him.

{My oh my, I didn't realize how fun this would be... I could only imagine what our sweet Harmonia would do if he saw you like this!}

The dark blue blood of the Sun began pouring from his mouth, the beeping from his computer getting louder.

“I'LL CALL HARMONIA! PLEASE, STAY CALM!”

Soul knew now he was fucked. He tried shooting the computer with a fireball, but Whole had already been called.

Mind rubbed his neck, trying to stop the bleeding. Soul immediately shot back, slashing his trident into Mind's neck. And then, his head flew off.

{O-Oh God, no... What have I done...}

Soul ran out of his room as fast as he could, going into his own and calming down to pretend nothing ever happened.

Mind was still conscious. To a certain degree. He tried his best to keep his eyes open, but it was far too difficult. He saw Whole, who rushed towards him and dragged his body to his computer, then carefully grabbed his head and plugged it in.

He wasn't sure where he was now. He was so tired, he didn't want to be awake anymore. He slowly closed his eyes, and then, his battery died.

“There we go. Good as new.”

Mind opened his eyes, looking around for a good few minutes. There was something inside his neck, or on it. He felt around, and touched a small box. He went to speak, and was greeted with a raspy, pure robotic tone.

[What... Is this...]

“I call it a modulator. Your vocal chords were beyond repair, so I took some of them out and replaced them, and gave you this. Now, you'll be more... Automaton.”

20, the small character sprite, held up a little mirror, somehow being able to show Mind's reflection.

Blue wires were visible through Mind's face, glowing vibrantly.

“I think you look great!”

He smiled softly, trying to make Mind feel at ease. It helped to a certain degree.

Mind's arms and legs were flooded with bright wires that pumped energy to every part of him; ridding him of having to charge himself.

“Who did this to you, Apollo? What could you have possibly done to get this bad?”

[I-I don't know...]

He sighed, turning around and hugging Whole.

[Thank you, my Harmonia... I-I... I cried... Am I weak...?]

“Of course not. You were terrified, and for good reason. Crying does not make you weak. Holding it back is what does. Holding back your emotion to impress those around you means you're too weak to show them.”

Mind felt safe around Whole, even more so to tell him what happened.

[I... I started an argument with Heart... I didn't mean to... And... I was upset... I punched Heart. But I-]

“Did you apologize?”

[I want to... But Soul practically ripped my head off, I'm nervous to go anywhere near either of them...]

“Soul did this to you?”

Mind nodded. He could instantly see the anger in his eyes.

“Go lay down for a little. You can apologize later. I'm going to go talk to Soul.”

[O-Okay... Love you... I mean- Fuck, I'm sorry. Uh- Thank you, Harmonia.]

Whole ruffled Mind's hair, smiling.

“That's alright. I love you too.”

And of course, that's how that conversation ended. Mind slept through the rest of the day, but he occasionally heard loud slapping and yelling from Soul's room.

He assumed it was punishment, but it scared him. So he stayed in the warmth and comfort of his bed.
