Drip. Drip. Drip.
The sound echoed in the amphibian's mind, probably because a pipe was leaking, but it made his brain feel more empty than it already was.
Mizuno couldn’t get some words out of his head– words his best friend Erik had said. He didn’t know what they meant, or if they meant anything at all.
“If you snag the last donut, I’ll kill you myself, Mizu!”
What did he mean?
Was Erik going to kill him? Was this a sign of something malicious? Why would he say such a thing?
He sat on the futon, huddling into his makeshift bed. The humidifier was on, releasing a rather lavender-like scent compared to the last few nights. Jinam had to refill it, so she probably put a different essential in for tonight. It was a relaxing scent, so he couldn’t complain.
Although, the herb was not doing its job, as Mizuno glanced at the clock nearby. It read 1:33 A.M.
He could’ve sworn it was 10 P.M like, half an hour ago? Ugh. He was gonna be tired tomorrow.
Grumpy, too. Definitely grumpy.
His mind wandered back to the faint thought of what his best friend had said to him almost a week ago, threatening to kill him.
Mizuno would kill him first if he tried.
“… I shouldn't say that.” Mizuno thought aloud, frowning himself and wiping his eyes. Why would he think that? About his best friend of all people? God, was he the monster he was created to be?
The fish boy sniffled and wiped his face with the cool blanket covering his body.
He was probably just overthinking it all. Probably.
For now, he’d just try to sleep off his emotional baggage. He can always ask, right? Erik would tell him the truth… right?
Whatever. He’d worry about that tomorrow.
For now he can let his tears fall, cushioned by his pillow like pearls on a clam.
