“Midnight kiss?”
Till looked away, “Yeah. Apparently it's a western tradition or something. They said it gives good luck to the couple who… like, kisses on the midnight of New Year's Eve. Strengthens bonds or whatever.”
“Hmm, interesting.” Ivan smiled as he continued leaning against Till.
They sat in silence for a short while.
“Kinda cringe, isn't it?” Till laughed in an awkward manner, “As if that's real. Couples kiss all the time, why's it suddenly special during one specific midnight?”
“It's just a belief, something that makes them happy to think about,” Ivan nuzzles his nose against Till's hair, “Why'd you suddenly bring it up?”
“Nothing.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“Hmm, okay.”
The conversation went quiet again, until Till spoke again, “I mean, don't think you think it's dumb, too?”
“I don't think so.”
“You don't?”
“Yeah, I think it's romantic,” Ivan glanced into Till's eyes, “and the couples who believe in it enough to do it as an annual tradition probably just really cared about their relationship. I think it's cute.”
Till became more fidgety, “Then… What, you want to do it or something?”
“The midnight kiss?”
“Yeah.”
“Nah.”
Till visibly deflated, “But you said…”
“Yeah, but you never said you wanted to do it. You find it cringe and dumb, don't you? We don't have to do it if you don't want to.”
“I–” Till knew what Ivan was doing. He was not giving in, “I mean, it's not like it's a big deal or anything. It's just a kiss, we do that all the time. We can do it if you want to.”
“I don't want to if you don't want to,” This bastard. Till could feel Ivan's smirk without even looking at him.
“...And if I want to?”
“Then I'll want it too.”
Till hated the guy he was in love with.
As they continued sitting in silence with neither of them wanting to lose this mini challenge Till unintentionally started, one of them was winning with ease.
And it was not Till.
One could always count on him to start a challenge he couldn't win.
Five minutes.
The closer it got to midnight, the more restless Till became.
Four minutes.
“What's wrong, Till? Am I making you uncomfortable?”
“Shut up.”
The bastard chuckled.
Three minutes.
Till did not want to lose. He refused to lose to this cocky jerk. He had his dignity!
Two minutes.
He was losing his dignity.
Sixty seconds.
“You're a real bastard, you know that?”
“That's mean, why so sudden?”
“You know why, stop acting dumb!”
Till was mad. Not at Ivan, but at himself. God, he hated his lack of willpower around him.
“No, I don't. Why are you–”
Zero seconds.
Till grabbed Ivan's shirt and yanked him towards himself, pressing their lips together.
Ivan, completely unsurprised, deepened the contact and nibbled on Till's lower lips. They clung onto one another for a full minute, and a string of saliva connected their lips as they reluctantly pulled apart, out of breath.
Oh, how he hated the victorious grin on Ivan's face.
“I hate you.”
“You should learn to be more honest,” Ivan placed a palm on Till's cheek, caressing him gently, “Let's give it another try, did you want to do the midnight kiss?”
“Midnight's already passed, dumbass.”
“Did you want to do the midnight kiss?”
“...Yes.” Till murmured, barely audible to anyone else but always audible to Ivan.
“Yes what?”
“Yes, I wanted to do the midnight kiss–”
Ivan pulled Till towards himself this time. They stayed connected for the rest of the night.
