Work Header

nighttime sunshine

Summary:

One hand nestled in large, scarred fingers, the other wrapped around the small box in his pocket, Katsuki feels warm despite the chill in the air. As he watches the Eiffel Tower glow golden against the darkening sky, he finds his gaze drifting away, drawn to something closer, even more breathtaking.

Green curls ruffled by the breeze, sparkling eyes, constellations of freckles.

To Katsuki, the most beautiful sight, the brightest light, is Izuku.

I went to Paris recently and was inspired to write fluffy bkdk ( ´ ꒳ ` )
I have some pictures of my inspiration for this drabble that I've linked in the end notes!

Work Text:

Day bleeds into night in hues of orange and pink as lights flicker to life across the city. The darkening sky brings a chill settling in the air, seeping through Katsuki’s winter coat. He tucks one hand in his pocket and shifts a bit further to the side, brushing arms with Izuku as they walk. Whether any body heat is actually shared this way is debatable, but the warmth it brings to his heart is enough to take away the chill.

His other hand is already protected from the cold, nestled in large, scarred fingers.

“Kacchan, look!” Izuku points with his hand that isn't wrapped around Katsuki's, tugging lightly with the one that is as he veers off the path towards a brightly illuminated stand. “Don't those look good?”

“You're still hungry?” Katsuki asks in surprise, letting himself be pulled along.

Izuku’s step falters, turning to look back at him. “No, but…” His mouth turns down into a pout as he glances at the stand again.

“Go on,” Katsuki relents with a fond sigh. Izuku's face lights back up, brighter than the street lamps shining down on them, and Katsuki thinks he would do anything to see that smile.

As Izuku studies the menu, talking through his options, he has Katsuki’s full attention. He follows along with Izuku's rambling decision-making, murmuring agreements and giving his input when asked, all the while gently rubbing his thumb over Izuku's finger. Feeling the slight unnatural bend, the scars. A remnant of when they were just teenagers and Izuku was still growing into his quirk.

Katsuki could go blind tonight and still point out each and every scar on Izuku's body. He's spent hours tracing them, gently pressing kisses to each, memorizing the map of Izuku's journey to becoming a hero.

Hands clasped together, on vacation in a foreign country, his heart filled with warmth as he listens to Izuku ramble on about which crepe to choose, he's reminded of how much has changed, how far they've come.

In his pocket, his other hand wraps tightly around a small box.

Finally, Izuku makes his decision and eagerly accepts a perfectly-cooked crepe from the stand owner. He takes his first bite, making a little noise of delight.

“Good?” Katsuki asks, and Izuku nods emphatically, mouth too full to talk. He holds it out, inviting Katsuki to try with a tilt of his head.

Katsuki leans in, the sweet scent wafting up to meet him. At the last second, he turns to place a kiss on Izuku's forehead, earning a giggle before going back for a large bite. Izuku waits for his verdict, face breaking into a smile when Katsuki nods approvingly.

The crepe disappears quickly, Izuku offering Katsuki bites between his own.

With the last bit of light remaining in the sky, they start walking again. “Looks like a good view there,” Katsuki suggests, nudging Izuku towards a bridge lined with people. Finding an empty spot where they don't have to squeeze in, their hands slip apart to rest both arms on the rail as they gaze out over the water.

Not far down stands the Eiffel Tower, glowing golden against the deep blue sky. Lights from the road reflect on the rippling surface of the Seine, creating a stunning scene of light and dark.

Though beautiful, Katsuki's gaze drifts away, drawn to something closer, even more breathtaking.

Captivated by his love’s face, by the dusting of freckles decorating his cheeks, by the light reflecting in his eyes.

“It's sparkling!” Izuku gasps, whipping around to look at Katsuki before turning back, lips parted in awe.

Katsuki reluctantly drags his gaze away from his boyfriend. The tower is indeed sparkling, white lights dancing over gold. If only it was green it would mirror Izuku's eyes, Katsuki thinks.

To him, the most beautiful sight, the brightest light, is the man next to him. Ever since they mended the cracks between them and admitted their feelings for one another, his presence has been an unwavering ray of light leading Katsuki through life, even the darkest times feeling brighter with Izuku at his side.

He steps back, cautiously so as to not alert Izuku, and pulls the box from his pocket, flipping it open. Inside is a simple black band with an orange gemstone, not unlike the streaks that painted the sky not long ago.

Holding it up, he takes in the view of his soon-to-be husband, hair blowing gently in the breeze, Eiffel Tower sparkling in the distance, and the ring waiting to be slid onto the hand he's been holding all day. A smile settles on his face, and he decides it's time.

“‘Zuku,” Katsuki calls softly, lowering himself to one knee just as Izuku turns around.

As the sun sinks below the horizon, Katsuki's sun is right in front of him.

Notes:

I had such a vivid image in my head of Katsuki and Izuku being there, admiring the sights, and Katsuki being more captivated by Izuku than anything else. I've tried my best to portray it so I can share that image! :3
